Mr. Mike’s is very family friendly: incredibly patient and kind waitstaff. The pizza is delicious and the appetizers are plentiful. There’s also a lot of space to accommodate large or small parties.

Dave has always helped us out with large orders for pizza for groups needing a refresher from long stretches hiking in the high peaks. The pizza varieties are good and he even has opened early for us to help out. He is a great guy and willing to work with customers.

Went there for a casual dinner with my girlfriend tonight. We always try Calamari at every place we go to… Mr. Mike’s was over cooked, the batter was way too salty, and the calamari was all huge distorted looking chunks. I ordered Egg Plant Parm… wow did they mess it up! My egg plant looked as if it was deep fried and deep fried way past the time where it ceases to be egg plant and instead becomes greasy breaded mush. My girlfriend had lasagna which i won’t complain about but will not rave about either. To make it all worse half an hour later I experienced stomach discomfort and rushed to the facilities to relieve my digestive system.

First time here. Walked into no one at the host stand to greet me. A line cook came over to seat me, then a server greeted our table pleasantly. He was very helpful and answered our questions. I ordered a pitcher of root beer for the table-no re-fills! Usually most restaurants have free refills on soda. Weird. We got a large cheese pizza and I got a chicken Parm sandwich. The bread for the sandwich had way too much flour. The Pizza was alright. We also tried their calamari. It was gross! Chewy and over done. The Chicken Parm was nothing exciting. Overall blah experience. Wouldn’t go there again ever.

Visited this place, because we were all starving after our long drive from Manalapan, NJ. This was the first place we saw and we jumped on it. Décor/Atmosphere felt like we we were in a school cafeteria. The Calzone — Horrible… The Pizza –Easily some of the worst I have ever had… and remember, I said we came from Jersey which has some pretty bad Pizza. To say I don’t recommend this place is an understatement!!! My kids still laugh about this place… It’s a joke!

Great food! Try the Bolognese, it’s amazing! They even helped entertain our children while we waited. Highly recommend!

Pros: decent pizza no wait for a party of two on a holiday weekend during dinner Pleasantly warm Nice staff Cons: service was super slow(food came quick but getting the check took forever) calamari had a terrible texture, was cut into strange pieces and was obviously straight out of the freezer Pizza had too much olive oil(white pizza) Calzone was empty at the ends Marinara sauce was flavorless and thin Smallest soda glass ever Locals/regulars obviously favored: beers at another table were the size of an extra large soda(actually in a coke brand cup that was four times the size of our sodas), two waiters serving a table of four while we(a table of two) were trying to flag down someone for our check for the past 15 minutes Difficult to find the front door Broken/stained ceiling tiles Weird floor plan The chandlers were missing light bulbs Expensive for low quality: a medium pizza, calamari, calzone and a coke = $ 45

We’ve been stopping in at Mr. Mike’s about once a year for many years; it’s our go-to place in Lake Placid on a rainy night when we can’t cook over our campfire. It’s not gourmet, as is clear from the other reviews, but the pizza is quite good. My daughter always has the fettucine alfredo, which is also good(hard to do alfredo badly). The prices are pretty reasonable for Lake Placid. And if the service is sometimes not lightning-fast, you can still sit and watch the cooks. The pizza really IS made to order, which can’t be said about a lot of quicker places. Also, we’ve been in with as many as nine people in a party and never had to wait too long – ok, it’s not exactly an advertisement for a place that it always has room, but when you’re a big party with hungry kids and everyone’s grumpy about the rain, this is an important factor.

Ordered a calzone to go and it tasted as if it was microwaved, burned, and it was chewy. Not enough filling either. Not good at all.

Don’t understand the hate for this place. It isn’t gourmet by any means, but considering what it is(casual Italian/pizza place), they do a good job. Have had pizza, salads and pastas here and all have been exactly what you’d expect them to be, good, no frills Italian food. A bit overpriced, but so is everything in lake placid.

I live in town and a bunch of us wanted to get something quick to eat before heading out to the jumps for a World Cup event. Our normal destination is Lisa G’s, but with it being a holiday it was crazy busy. We then tried another place and that was busy too. so we decided to get pizza. Pizza is a quick in and out kind of meal right? Well we walked in(now we ordered our pizza ahead of time that’s how much of a rush we were in). 10 min to sit 7ish min to get a drink order It was busy but come on! There were people there that got there before us and got menus after we ordered drinks! Now I know this is dragging. Pizza was ehh garlic bread was horrendous. The icing on the cake was that we had gotten 2 pitchers of beer. All of the sudden we noticed something at the bottom of the pitcher. My friend brought it up to the manager of the restaurant(who was running around but not doing ANYTHING) and just wanted to let him know. Instead of saying«ya know what? That I unacceptable, I will take it off the bill.» He then proceeded to say«oh looks like you got some crumbs in there!!» And laughed and WALKEDAWAY! Needless to say we will not be returning back to that dump! It’s a shame because locals are what keep businesses open in the off season.

This is officially the worst pasta I have ever had in my life. It comes in a bowl of bitter tasting soupy stuff. I was afraid to say anything because my friend said I was hard to please in the previous restaurant(«Liquids and Solids»), but even she said that was the worst meal of her life. We should have gotten a clue when the waitress said in the fall it was«so bad that sometime only 2 families will come out eat in a day».

This is the WORST $ 20 I spent in my LIFE! Staying in town on the lake and ordered delivery. The pizza had no taste to its sauce…3 pieces of pepperoni and very sparse other ingredients cloaked under a pile of too much cheese!!! Wish I would have just tried another place! The crust was good though. That’s about all I ate of the pizza… or maybe I was just hungry! UPDATE: Since I wrote this review I’ve gotten several insulting messages from someone named Kevin P speaking on behalf of Mike’s Pizza. I’m unsure if he’s just a fan or an employee/owner.

Been coming here for over ten years with my family. Yes, the service is sometimes lackluster and the non-pizza dishes can be sketchy, but they still make a great Greek salad and the best white pizza I’ve ever had. Seriously, get the white pizza if you are gonna come here. Ubu on tap also(last I checked) which is quite a perk.

I’ve been eating pizza at Mr. Mike’s pizza since the late 80’s. My parents used to bring us here after a day of skiing on Whiteface. Now that I live in NC and we only get to Lake Placid once a year, Mr. Mike’s is a mandatory stop during our visit The white pizza is the best I’ve ever had! I’ve tried white pizza in many other restaurants and no one comes close. Mr. Mike’s uses cheese, garlic and olive oil. No ricotta cheese here — just the basics and it works! I also had a Greek salad and it was fresh and tasty. Great salad dressing! Sodas are small enough to be called petit — the only downside from my perspective. Great for groups and I’m sure the place is slammed during peak seasons. Stop by for a white pizza but make sure everyone has a bite. The garlic is potent!

Italian and pizza for families setting. Unfortunately, service was glacial. Took the waitress something like 15 minutes to greet us after we called on a busboy whose excuse was, «it’s my first day here.» The food was flavorful, and appropriately portioned. Good enough for that kind of thing, but not if you are in a rush.

A welcome, new addition to my Worst Restaurants in the U.S. list. This gem hails all the way from Lake Placid — a resort destination! Perhaps we should have ordered the pizza, a safer option by most measures. Instead, I was slightly more ambitious and ordered the lasagna. Oh, what a dreadful plate this was. My portion was noticeably squat and small. My girlfriend immediately likened it to a Lean Cuisine. If only! Lean Cuisines actually taste better. This lasagna just had the strangest aftertaste. It was so distracting, that I had great difficulty in actually finishing my plate. The meat was tasteless and boasted nothing in the way of texture. The ricotta was more like thick curds. The lasagna was topped with a ladle full of simple tomato sauce and garnished with chopped parsley. The sauce was decidedly bad and the parsley made me think we had time warped to the 1970s. The plate rang in at $ 14+ or about the price of 5 Lean Cuisines. At least I could eat some of my food; my girlfriend could only stare at the monstrosity she was served. Yikes. The place itself is cavernous. Like, it could be converted to an indoor hockey rink in the winter kind of cavernous. The kitchen is on open view, and it is probably the largest kitchen I have ever seen. During the low season, this seemed like a waste of space. Given the quality of the food, I imagine it’s a waste of space during the high season too. The service was very slow with one girl working a handful of tables. In short, there was nothing to recommend this place at all, hence the rating

Decent food, a little pricier than I would expect, but that seems to be the theme of many restaurants in Lake Placid. The garlic bread and tortellini was delicious. This is an ideal place to go to for larger parties out for a dinner. There were 12 of us in our party, and no complaints for speed to seat us or to serve us. They have lots of space(and tables) to accommodate larger groups for meals.
