I love tamales. I am a 57 year old woman who can’t remember ordering anything BUT tamales when we choose Mexican food. These are absolutely the best tamales I have ever eaten. If I could have only one food for the rest of my life, I would choose these tamales!

If you are all about the potatoes in your breakfast burrito then it’s the place to go. We were looking for quite a bit more egg… Or chorizo in the burrito. Felt ripped off!!! Bummer as we live our breakfast burritos

Ordered chicken tamales… But they should have been called Chicken Potato tamales! Obviously The potatoes were a filler. I’ve had great tamales In my day and none with potatoes! Flavor was Nonexistent. Very disappointed.

We came for breakfast burritos, and they were okay. There’s a little old lady working the counter and I think she’s the cook as well. We did one with churrizo and the other vegetarian. The vegetarian had egg, potato, and what looks like frozen veggie mix. It was bland. The churrizo was better, but not by much. Portions are small, but fresh I guess. People prob like the lunch/dinner menu better.

Fish tacos were amazing! Great value and they were huge. Super tasty, very fresh and worth the wait. This place does a booming take-out business, so be patient because, I promise you, it’ll be worth it! My husband and I split two fish tacos($ 9) for a snack, but 2 tacos easily became 4. Each comes double wrapped with two corn tortillas that we made into another taco. Delicious!

This business is classified as a Restaurant? It’s a tiny Mexican market that also makes food. I literally walked a mile to go here for a Mexican lunch. When I asked if she could make the burrito«wet», she told me «to put some salsa on top — same thing». Disappointed!

Very disappointed in our meal here. We stopped for lunch here after shopping at the natural foods store next door. I really hate to waste food, but I ended up throwing away most of my meal. I ordered fish tacos and my husband had the chicken burrito. The fish was very dry and a strange pink color. The cabbage and tomatoes were old and lifeless and the salsa was a soggy mush with pale flavor. Also, prices are not good considering the very low quality of the ingredients used.

We placed our order and we were told to kindly wait outside. After 20 minutes of waiting we went inside and the same person who had taken our order the first time looked us square in the eye and asked us what we would like to order. She had completely forgotten us and our order. We asked for our money back and left.

Great little spot next to the farmers market. Very authentic tacos literally made by a little old Latina lady. The fish tacos were made with fresh caught Ono(spelling?) and served with a couple of great tasting salsas; the flavors were explosive. The pork taco was pretty fantastic too. I was literally moaning while eating — so good!!! Take them across the street to the park for a picnic.

When you’ve been working since 5 am, Mexican food sounds even more flockin’ awesome. The first time I came here, I enjoyed their tamales. Must. Try. More. Stopped here on our lunch break and ordered: Beef tongue tacos Chicken, beef, & pork tamales Chicken burrito All were delicioso !(that’s not a real Hispanic word) The salsas that come with the food were tasty as well. The lady at the counter was happy & friendly. Another plus. Y’all gotta make a pit stop here before arriving or leaving yo hotels dawg.

The lady who took our order and made the food was super friendly and inviting. We ordered breakfast burritos. One chorizo and egg and one veggie and egg. Bomb! They were so delicious and sized perfectly. Red and green salsas came with each order along with a tasty salad mix. Will be back!

We ordered the carne asada torta, a chicken tamale, asada burrito and some tacos. The food was decent except for the fish taco. At $ 4 dollars a taco you would expect some grilled or battered fish. In this case it was a broken up fish stick. The other dishes were okay but fish sticks??? For fish tacos go to 808 antohitos, shark bite or ululanis new food joint.

The lady at the front is exceptionally friendly. She made the short time you have at the store worth it. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican grub this is the place to get it. Love the beef and fish tacos. Actually plan on having more before our trip back home. Will miss this spot.

Very friendly and quick service. We ordered two chorizo breakfast burritos and they were awesome. As others have said its a one woman show and our food was promptly made when we ordered it. The sauces that come with the burrito were very good and overall it’s a great little shop with great food. Can’t wait to try something else before we leave.

First, I loved the food! Second, it is not a sit-down restaurant. The woman at the counter was very sweet and helpful for this island newbie. My guess is that she is the counter person and cook… This really is a Mexican food market that offers a limited take out menu. However, that said the tacos were amazing. I had the pork tacos and they’re we’re amazing. Just perfect in flavor and texture. I also could not resist a chicken tamale, it too was just wonderful. It was obviously hand made. I will agree with the other review, be ready to wait for your order. Fur of us ‘placed our orders and it took about 20 minutes to get our to go plates… But it was absolutely worth the wait!

There are places you expect to find great Mexican food and Mexican markets. .. East LA, parts of Arizona, Texas. .. Maui? Not so much. So when my family and I embarked on a walking adventure to find dinner after arriving at our rental in Honokowai on Thanksgiving(of all days), imagine our surprise at finding an amazing Mexican restaurant LITERALLY on the other side of the 162 year old church from our rental! Knocked us over with a feather, you could. How great? How legit? They have a mariachi band that comes and plays on Thursdays. It is kinda hidden between Bad Ass Coffee(great name!) and the Farmer’s Market, right across from Honokowai Beach Park. There is way more to the menu than listed, so if you want a taco and lengua(tongue), tripa(tripe), or buche(esophagus) in their insane Mexico City legitness aren’t appealing to you(I don’t blame you, I’m not about the innard meat myself), just ask. They do have carne asada — which was very flavorful. I ordered a pork tamale, a pork torta(which the best approximation I can come up with a sandwich), and a carne asada taco. I was starving. Since I’ve been on Weight Watchers(surprise, my find dining habit has had some unpleasant side effects), I don’t scarf down food. Oh man, I finished that whole, HUGE torta all by myself. It was flavorful and buttery and just, oh my, heaven. The pork tamale will throw people who aren’t accustomed to Mexican food off because it includes not just the shredded pork, but also chicharron(pork rinds). Now, these are the chicharrones that are cooked in a chile sauce, so they are softened and not crispy. In fact they take on a pseudo-gelatinous consistency which isn’t for everyone. It was a great balance between the corn meal and the filling, which isn’t always the case for store bought tamales so that was nice. Prices were pretty reasonable at $ 3 a taco, $ 8.50 for a torta, and $ 5 for tamale. The food was delicious, but it takes a long time because EVERYTHING is homemade. There is an abuelita(grandmother) in the back making the food by hand. I think even the tacos were fresh. The only things made ahead are the empanadas and the tamales(but those are massively labor intensive foods that take nearly a day to prepare and cook). Having said that, I am willing to wait for really exceptional Mexican, and to me, this is really exceptional. You can call ahead and place an order for pick to make your wait time easier. Several Mexicans came in and ordered food while we were here. Here is a hint, if you want to know if a place has good, authenic Mexican food, look to see how many Mexicans are eating there(same goes for Chinese food). This place is even a grocery, remittance location, and they sell pinatas! They even have a ton of different kind of dried chiles for sale. It was hard not buying $ 30 worth of a combo of ancho peppers, dried habanero peppers, and other dried chile peppers. They are a real specialty store, so some things are definitely pricey. But I was able to find a $ 5 bottle of good Mexican vanilla that I needed for a recipe. The food here really is amazing, it just takes awhile too cook. If you are in Honokowai, definitely check it out. The lady behind the counter is really nice, and it is truly a hidden gem.
