The food here was not good at all! Either people in Maui don’t know what good fresh Mexican food tastes like, or people leaving the reviews for this restaurant are not sober when doing so! I ordered the spinach and poblano enchilada AWARDWINNING plate because I figured this would be one of their best. It was awful!!! There was nothing fresh about it. The tortillas on the enchiladas looked like they had been prepared the night before and then just reheated in a microwave, the spinach filling was dry and tasteless… everything was just bland… except their salsa, that was the only good thing here. My husband’s fish tacos were bland too. They could have at least served fresh taco toppings, since we were there for lunch. But no the cabbage was browning in the edges and just plain awful!

SAVEYOURMONEY! We went for happy hour and were told the specials by the hostess. When we ordered our beer and margarita at the bar, it should have been $ 4/beer and $ 8/margarita but apparently, despite the hostess explaining the happy hour pricing, the margarita I ordered was not included and it turned out to be $ 12, which was the same price as the other margaritas originally. When we asked the bartender about it, he had no apologies and just took our money. When ordering dinner at our table, our waitress seemed annoyed with us from the beginning. We ordered 4 entrees, all of which we enjoyed. However, the fish tacos did not specify that the onions were mixed with habanero peppers. When my mother started melting, she asked the waitress what was so spicy and had to ask for sour cream to tone it down. When we finally finished and got our bill, the sour cream was an ADDITIONAL $ 2. It would have been nice if either the waitress had warned us of the price or comped the topping since I ordered my enchiladas without the included sour cream… Lastly, we saved around $ 30 on the bill because of happy hour pricing. However, the waitress SECRETIVELY included a 20% tip(which she did not deserve) without announcing the addition and the tip percentage was based on the non-happy hour pricing. Wtf?! We only had a party of 4 so there should not have been any tip added automatically. Had we not seen the small print, we would have tipped on top of her inclusion. The food was good but the service was deplorable. I felt gouged for money from start to finish. There are better restaurants to spend your hard earned money. go elsewhere.

If only you could give less than 1 star. Food lacks taste, the«award winning» chicken wasn’t special at all. I can get the same rotisserie chicken from a jewel-osco or Safeway. When they say that there is chicken chicharron in the tacos they mean one measly chicharron the size of my fingernail. If you were more interested in the seafood aspect of sangrita, the calamari is chewy as well as every other octopus dish, and the seafood enchilada was made with shrimp preserves. Meaning that the enchilada was very briney and disgusting. Who wants canned shrimp in their enchilada??? The avocado fries were pretty gross, they tasted as if they were spoiled. Only good thing there was the chips and salsa. Stay away and save your money folks.

Great food… Shannon is an incredible server that is extremely helpful and very knowledgeable! Even if the food hadn’t been incredible, which it was… the service Shannon provides would more than make up for it!!!

We went to Sangrita twice while on vacation in Maui. It was excellent all around! Food was creative and high quality, and the bar drinks didn’t disappoint. Definitely recommend this place for Mexican food!

Pretty expensive for a lunch, but the portions were big. The waiter was really nice and the food was okay. Nothing special, a decent place to check out if you need to get out of the sun.

Came for dinner around 6:30 and were quickly seated outside. The complimentary chips and salsa were delicious, some of the best we’ve had anywhere. We ordered the original and the cherry margaritas. They were expensive($ 14) but they don’t skimp on the tequila — one was all we needed. My husband got the pork carnitas that were cooked in duck fat($ 27). Holy delicious! A little pricey but he said it was the best pork he’s ever had anywhere. I got the fried fish tacos($ 20). It came with three tacos and I couldn’t finish them, they were pretty big and very good. The meal was $ 88 which is pretty expensive for Mexican food but everything was so good that we didn’t really mind. We’d come back for happy hour where the drinks are a little cheaper.

Food was great! And the service was EXCELLENT! We had a variety of items on the menu and everything had a unique«twist» on traditional Mexican. Nothing was the same as you would get anywhere else. Our server Shannon was awesome. She was very knowledgeable and was happy to explain the menu. She made our experience even more enjoyable. Definitely worth a return.. Especially for happy hour deals!

Food lacking taste. Octopus dishes super chewy. OVERPRICED(even for happy hour). $ 12 for a small plain cheese quesadilla in kid’s meal. And to make it worst, they automatically charged 20% gratuity to bill BEFORE taking off happy hour discount AND she rounded up! We were a party of 4. Lame!

A traditional American style Mexican restaurant with good food and clean atmosphere. We went for dinner during happy hour to get half off our entrees. The food was delicious and great for American/Mexican food, in other words, not authentic. It is hard to beat half off entrees especially when you are in Hawaii. The service was great but BEAWARE of the 40% service added to your bill during happy hour. The servers don’t warn you of the added service fee but it was still cheaper than eating there at full price.

Despite the reviews, we came here on a Thursday night with a group of friends. The service was great where there was just 2 – 3 of us, but as more came(about 20), it went downhill real fast. I understand it is hard when there are several people, but I think what we experienced was not excused by that. First, one of my friends ordered way before some others and still received her food last. She ordered the fish tacos and they were cold and not good at all. I ordered the Christmas chicken enchilladas which were just okay. They weren’t hot and didn’t have much flavor to them. The rice wasn’t good at all and the black beans PASTE was just not for me. My friend ended up sending the tacos back but didn’t want to bother waiting for another plate since everyone was almost done at that point anyway. The food was lacking(especially for the price!) and the service was just as unimpressive. If you’re looking for some good Mexican food, I’d suggest looking elsewhere.

In the land of fresh seafood, you had better be able to get your fish tacos right. 3 of our party went for it and regretted it. Dry as a lava field, way over cooked. And unevenly spiced; one bite would be bland and the next would be very spicy. My wife had the enchilada which were ok but the refried beans had some weird flavor that none of us could identify.

Went here to hopefully get some good Mexican food. First off, it was a Sunday night. Service was horribly slow and the restaurant wasn’t packed. We saw seafood enchiladas that had, shrimp, octopus, and scallops. My wife doesn’t care for octopus and asked for it not to be in the enchilada. They told us it could not be removed. Hmmm. That automatically makes me think, frozen, pre-made food. The waitress ensured us you can barely taste the octopus. So we each ordered it. Drinks, mai tai, why not we’re in Maui. They were horrible. Too sweet, couldn’t taste the alcohol. Food arrived really fast. The plate was $ 24 and each enchilada(2 total) were about 5 «. A tablespoon of a black bean purée’ or sauce and undercooked rice. I opened the enchiladas and found less then two tablespoons of filling. The TWO(2) shrimp were the size of a nickel. No signs of octopus, hence she did say we would taste it), and I did not see or taste scallops. Avoid this place. Taco Bell serves better Mexican food.

This place has the appearance it will be good. Cool atmosphere, nice looking menu, good location. Don’t let appearances fool you because it was actually terrible. I should have trusted other Unilocal reviews. The chips were extremely hard and the«salsa» you dip them into tasted like tomato paste with a few chipotle spices. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and my husband ordered the steak fajitas plus he added shrimp to them. The food came out extremely fast(first red flag) and the presentation actually was very nice. However, things changed when we bit into the food. My chicken enchiladas were extremely dry which if you think about it, is an admirable feat. How to make anything smothered in sauce and cheese taste dry, deserves one star. The beans and rice that came with both meals were terrible. The beans literally had no flavor, which is another impressive feat. If I tasted anything it was a subtle dawn dish soap flavor. The rice was awful. Fajitas are kind of the sure shot when it comes to a consistent meal. Not these ones. The meat and veggies came floating in skillet full of a mystery liquid. Since when do fajitas have a soup they cook in? It came with a side of the tomato paste salsa too. Also like I said earlier, my husband asked to add shrimp, knowing there would be an additional charge. The steak fajitas run $ 29.00, which is already overpriced, but then they added an additional $ 10.00 for three dinky little shrimp. $ 10.00 for three shrimp??? You have to be joking me. In addition, our server decided to «upgrade» without asking my husband to the most expensive vodka on the menu(local Ocean organic vodka) and happily charged us for it all. My husband asked for a «well vodka soda» Crappy food, plus crappy sneaky service makes this place an avoid on your trip to Maui. Even if the atmosphere is appealing.

It was OK. We stayed at the Royal Lahaina so the location was fabulous(once we figured out what the back road was for!). I ordered the shrimp fajitas… they were ok if you like your shrimp swimming in oil! The guacamole was fresh and delicious but we weren’t fans of the slaw or sweet salsa. Hubby ordered the chicken enchiladas and asked for red sauce only. He received the Christmas enchiladas(red and green) and said they tasted ok. Margarita was tasty but very light on the alcohol. Food wasn’t terrible but we decided not to give it another try… not at that price point at least.

This is a pretty good happy hour restaurant! I enjoyed the drinks and the food was decent. I do not recommend the habanero salsa. Wasn’t that spicy. I had the chicken enchilada with red and green(christmas) salsa, which was fantastic. I have to take off stars for the hostess who gave our table away to a party who arrived after us by mistake, and another for bringing me the wrong order. I will have to come back for their insane happy hour deals. Would recommend for the food, but service could be better.

We celebrated our monthly moms dinner night out here. It was so nice to sit outside, have lots of room, a nice breeze and an overhang in case of weather… The menus were dropped and happy hour was announced. Mexican food! Oh the possibilities. My friend Courtney and I decided to each order an enchilada and share, because, sharing is caring – and – we get to try two different kinds. Done. I got the«Chicken Enchilada Christmas» which, if you know me, is KINDA perfect. I skipped chips and a HH drink. I was ready for this game of eat till you can’t eat no mo’. Our server was slow. And un-attentive. That was kinda lame. A last call happy hour reminder woulda been nice for the ones who were enjoying their beverages. If I could rate the food, it would be a FIVE. Hands down.(You’ll see why in a minute.) If I could rate the service, it would be a 2.5. I am not one to focus on the negative, so I’m gonna talk about the food. When it was finally delivered, it looked so awesome! Presented so nicely and so fresh. My plate had two enchiladas, rice and beans. I dove in and chowed down. It. Was. AWESOME. I was hesitant about the green sauce because I’m not a super huge fan. but it just added to the whole experience this time. Talking, laughing, eating and having a great time. Life was great. Courtney looks over at me with her enchilada and says«Uh, where’s my half?!» GUYS! I ate it, like… totally mindless eating. Food euphoria? I felt terrible and offered her my very last bite. She turned it down and thankfully knows me well and laughed it off. If you’re hungry and just want to eat really good Mexican food, Go. Just go. Toss your diet to the sharks and indulge. You can thank me later.

It’s a hard sale to justify tacos for $ 19.00 bucks, don’t get me wrong they were good but come on! I will say we had a great server«Joe» was awesome. I guess if your in Maui and need a Mexican food fix this place will do, but bring your wallet. When it comes to Mexican food simple is always better!!!

If your staying at Kaanapali. .this was an easy walk over and my hubby was seeking a break from seafood and Asian fusion. The reviews were good so we walked over … I can neither confirm or deny crossing the golf course;) . The complimentary chips and salsa were great and spicy. My husband got the steak burrito and I got the mole ribs. My ribs were very tender and lean.. I’m picky. We shared the avocado fries … never heard of it but very good if u like avocado. Lot of food … too much. wish we had just shared entrée.
