Delicious farm to table selections with some gluten free and vegetarian options. Well thought out menu, very creative foods and great presentation.

I appreciate what Heirloom is trying to accomplish with their food & their stated mission. Lafayette is perhaps not the best place for it, and the farm to table concept is certainly played out, but my main complaint is not about the food – it is in regards to the service. It has been some time since our last dinner at Heirloom and I still reflect on our uncomfortable dining experience there every time I drive past the restaurant. This continued discomfort is what has prompted me to post. We had a lovely waitress for dinner that night, I can’t remember her name but she was all smiles and answered our questions with ease. We were sitting at a table close to the bar where a woman we later learned was a manager was conversing with the bartender. She overheard something the waitress said that was slightly wrong(I honestly don’t ever remember what the issue was). She barked rudely at the waitress to correct her and then proceeded to basically mock the girl in front of us. The waitress was clearly humiliated and uncomfortable, as were we. This event prompted me to watch how the manager and the bartender at the time interacted with the waitstaff throughout the evening. I found it, quite frankly, appalling. Never have I been in a restaurant environment where waitstaff were called out, scolded, and berated in front of customers. I paid particular attention to our waitress. The man who managed the bar on several occasions engaged with the waitstaff in a similarly abusive manner. Perhaps it was not meant for the ears of customers but we were certainly close enough to notice. If this discourse was indeed intended for the public, it saddens me to think how the bartender and manager must speak to the waitstaff and each other in private. Later in the evening we had another interaction with the manager which was also quite awkward. Our waitress had delivered us the wrong cocktail and as she was remedying the situation the manager told her off loudly, and rudely very close to our table. The manager then basically swiveled with a smile plastered on and apologized far more than was necessary. I could not believe the way she was speaking to this waitress, a lovely woman who quite frankly seemed far kinder and more competent than her manager. Now perhaps this was an off night-you can never really be sure, but Heirloom has staked their reputation on doing something different in town, on treating food and the environment with respect. I am naturally not opposed to this mission, but I would be much more inclined to dine there again if I had seen them treating people, and not just their ingredients, with respect and compassion.

What happens when we buy locally grown food from a locally owned restaurant where the owners work harder than anyone? Well, if we’re biased towards those farmers or biased towards buying locally for any of many reasons, we think this is great because of the great moral or political satisfaction it gives us. But what if the local farmer doesn’t grow their food, or the rancher doesn’t raise an animal because it’s a living, but because it’s a way of living and an art in and of itself? What if the local restaurant owners trained meticulously to be great chefs for the same reason? Because it’s a way of living and a form of art? And what if they spent the time and care they spent on their food art developing a space that is as dynamic as it is useful as it is welcoming? Well, if you have all of these together you get Heirloom. And Heirloom is simply the best restaurant in the county, possibly one of the best in the state. From the food that perfectly balances flavors and presents like the world class cuisine it’s meant to be to the dining space that perfectly balances a welcoming warm and casual feel with the ability to be as formal as any dining experience, Heirloom is the one place to go in Lafayette when you truly want to impress your out of town guests or just your own appetite.

We had a great dinner here! Loved the Osso Buco and my husband said his trout was excellent. Nice ambience(maybe a tad too bright) and good service. Great addition to downtown Lafayette.

It’s my favorite restaurant in town because they’re always changing the menu and it never disappoints. Today was their second monthly brush and I had the biscuits and gravy while my boyfriend had the French toast. They were both extremely delicious and survived with fantastic service. We love going to Heirloom.

Pretty decent place. As a traveler to Indiana, I was happy to find a place like this. Their service was great. Well, it would be better if they have more food and drink choices.

Ok, I gave it another shot. Worth it! I didn’t try the ramen again, but the bison short rib I had was incredible. The veggies and purée that accompanied it were also superb. They have obtained their liquor license since the last time I was here. Best cocktail menu in Lafayette! I’m excited to come back just for some of the amazing cocktails! Great classic selection and a good menu of not sugary drinks. Still not sure about the ramen, but I’ll be back for drinks at least.

Such a pleasant change from«restaurant road». If you are tired of the boring chain restaurant food science that inhabits most of the Lafayette area; Heirloom is refreshing change of pace. The location is off the side of the courthouse which allows for a lot of people watching during the day. The interior is rustic, cool, laid back. Tables, sofas, and a bar area give you plenty of seating options. The menu does as well(have options). I like how the POP is not Pepsi products but Jones soda products. I’d like to get a chance to test the bar on a return visit because the cocktail choices are interesting. More than just martinis which seems to be an Indiana thing? Anyway, my food was tasty. I ordered French toast and bacon(which was outstanding); this was not ihop quality it was far better. I appreciate that all ingredients are locally sourced so you know where your food is coming from. Can’t do that at Applebee’s!

So excited to find this unique farm to table restaurant in Lafayette! We came for lunch and had an exquisite meal, starting with the charcuterie, which was a fantastic mix of locally sourced meats. For our meals, our table had the ramen, the enchies, and the croque Monsieur, all of which were outstanding. The root beer from the soda pop fountain was tasty as well! We will be back any time we are back in the area. Great place!

Excellent food. I’m a vegetarian and the manager recommended the Vegetable Gallette. He was spot on; it was extraordinary. Nice ambience, caring waitstaff… and the manager is exceptional. BTW~My nephew had the bison and raved about it. He doesn’t rave about anything very often.

Lafayette has been waiting for this. Heirloom features a seasonal menu with gourmet dishes comprised of locally sourced food. The large, remodeled space feels rustic, yet modern, has a large dining hall and a cool lounge/bar area. I’ve been there for lunch and dinner. Friendly and efficient service overall and I can’t wait for my next visit!

Great atmosphere, quirky bartender made a good cocktail. Food was good. Reminded me of the Nashville scene-a little hipsterish. In the Nashville way, they should add Nashville Hot Chicken to the menu. A little slow for a Friday night but it’s a place the community should patronize!

We dined here at 7:00 on a Saturday. It was not too crowded. We sat near the kitchen. The restaurant space is ok if a little lofty towards the back. I ordered a Gin Fizz and my wife had some wine. The Gin Fizz was boring. Tasted like club soda. Once I got to the bottom of the drink it tasted like pure sugar. I guess it didn’t stay very mixed. We both ordered the tomato soup with our dinners and it was really great. Very thick. For dinner I ordered the duck special and my wife had the osso bucco. The duck had a nice glaze, was cooked perfectly and tasted very good. The sides were also tasty(I forget what they were called, but there was kale involved and some sort of rice-like grain). The osso bucco was overdone and had virtually had no meat on the bone, but an exceptional amount of fat. The polenta with it was flavorless. At $ 28 a plate, the portions were unacceptable. The whole farm-to-table thing feels forced. The service was good. In the end, I doubt I will be back.

I plan to come back, and hope to have a better experience. I strongly support local farm to table, and I know they’re newly opened, so hopefully they will get better. I liked the food, but didn’t feel like I got good service. Not very crowded on a Wednesday evening, and it was a good start with the soup — a chicken and rice with kale and lentils — flavorful and hearty. I ordered the burger, which was not bad, but seemed to be missing something. I realized that«something» were the carmelized onions, which were not on the burger, but described on the menu. Not so terrible, except that the waitstaff essentially had disappeared, until the burger was rather cold. I finally flagged my waiter down, and he sent someone who said«here are your extra onions!» Since the owners seemed to be touring the dining room talking to their friends and family, I think an owner or manager should have stopped by to ask how things were. You can’t just treat your friends and family well. You have to provide good service to your average customer.

Visited for a business lunch on a weekday. Clean and well decorated, with outside views of the courthouse square or inside views of the bar and open kitchen. The tables are different, classically rustic if that even makes sense. We were seated quickly by friendly staff. Fast drink delivery and attentive service. Some of the two top tables seemed too close to each other for my comfort. I let myself be talked into the daily special, a tomato tart. I should have asked the question, «What comes with the tart?» The answer is: nothing. My colleague ordered a Reuben with fries, which looked delicious. Meanwhile, I’m eating the tart in small bites trying to make it last. It was fresh, but the onions and cheese(or was it mayonnaise?) overpowered the tomato. The tart is served hot and is kind of like a veggie pot pie thingy. I won’t order the tart again but I will revisit the restaurant for locally sourced food and chef inspired menu items. Thanks to the owners and staff for providing a different and unique establishment for downtown.

Let me start by saying that I look forward to coming back here and increasing my rating at some point in the future. I really love what they have done with the décor of this restaurant. It’s very cozy but also chic and it seems like it should not belong in Lafayette, IN. I enjoyed the sidecar cocktail, though I was more interested in trying one of the gin drinks. The dining room manager had to tell us that they ran out of gin since it was the first few weeks of business – very understandable. I had the soup of the day, which was mushroom and hominy(yum!), and the ramen. It was an interesting take on the ramen for sure. The noodles were thinner than I expected and the broth was more of a hearty beef broth flavor than the typical ramen you would get at an asian restaurant. It was still enjoyable though. I was a little surprised by the way the meat was incorporated. The pork was a shredded pork, which was also very flavorful, but sort of piled on top of the noodles. The dish was presented well and I did enjoy it. I’m interested in seeing how the menu changes with the seasons. My favorite part was definitely the deconstructed brown sugar cream pie. The pastry that came on top of it was flaky and delicious and the custard cream was yummy and not too sweet.

One of those spots you want to close your eyes and savor every bite… I didn’t even realize it had only been open a few weeks when I walked by and popped in for lunch. I was greeted by the Chef/Owner and was immediately sat. When I asked for the beverage menu I was told they weren’t serving wine and beer until tomorrow due to their new liquor license. I was really wanting to savor a glass of wine with lunch so opted to leave and come back another day. As I was leaving Billy(manager?) stopped me and let me know that as of that day they had their liquor license and the wine had arrived that morning. He was gracious enough to walk me through the options and I chose a French Sauvignon Blanc. The server was attentive but not hovering(I hate that) and told me about the Tomato Cheese Pie special which I promptly ordered with their house salad and house made Balsamic Vinaigrette. The top crust of the pie was perfectly crisp and bubbly. The layers of tomatoes and cheese created a messy, melty, bubbly, hot enough to burn your tongue decadence… it was amazing! I dug in and on the second bite I literally closed my eyes to savor the flavors. Then I dug in again and again and again… I wish the bottom of the crust was a little crisper but even then I ate the entire thing! The seasoning was perfect, and even though the server asked if I would like freshly ground pepper and I waved her away I would still suggest having pepper and salt grinders on the table. If my husband was there he would have added pepper a few times and it’s not convenient to call a server over each time. The staff was awesome and attentive, the décor is funky warehouse/barn kinda style with old school Johnny Cash playing in the background. We are only visiting Lafayette for a few days, but if we are back this will be my first stop for a great meal. Keep up the great work Heirloom — you have many, many great years ahead of you! Cheers!!!

Nice casual atmosphere! Great attentive servers! We had the house made gnocchi with a red sauce and the arepas which was brisket on little flatbreads! Both meals were delicious and full of fresh veggies. Love the farm to table concept and freshness of ingredients! Will definitely return!

Great casual atmosphere and attentive staff. We started off with the meat plate which included a house-made meat and jelly among other local meats and cheeses. For our main dishes, we ordered the pork burger and trout. The pork burger was probably one of the best I have ever had. The trout’s cornmeal breading was well done and the sweet corn risotto was amazing. I highly recommend ordering dessert – we ordered both selections this evening including a deconstructed sugar cream pie and an apple caramel cake. We look forward to visiting again!

I’m from Lafayette and had seen/heard murmurings of this restaurant on social media and knew I had to try it. Heirloom is a perfect example of the current trend in slow casual dining. The interior is unfinished with sheet metal panels and lots of references to the agrarian lifestyle, including a community table. It was a beautiful space, and the service was both prompt and friendly. Now, the food. My mother got the arepas, which were delicious. The brisket was perfectly seasoned and delightfully accented by slaw and crème fresh. The corn cakes on which the brisket sat were my favorite part, personally. They were subtly seasoned and really texturally pleasant. Moist and crumbly like savory angel food cake or something. I’d heard mixed reviews on the ramen and wanted to try them for myself. Let me say, as someone in Phoenix with pretty much effortless access to authentic Chinese and East Asian food, this ramen kicks ass. The broth, the noodles, the veggies, they were all just right. My only complaint on this dish would be that the bowl is kind of shallow, so it’s hard to mix everything up or drink the broth at the end of the meal, but I’m basically saying my least favorite part of this meal was that it could have been easier to shove it in my mouth. It’s a good thing ;) We also got dessert — the deconstructed brown sugar pie — which was also really good. Based on this experience, I would say that you’d be safe ordering anything here. The price point is standard/reasonable considering the quality of the food and the overall experience. It’s not a great place to go if you’re vegetarian, but they do have a gnocchi dish for an entrée, appetizer items and the hope of a veggie-friendly soup. I’d also guess that if you REALLY wanted a meatless omelet, they’d find a way to make it happen. tl;dr Tina, eat the food. Eat the food, Tina! EATTHEFOOD!
