I used to eat here once a week cause I worked in the kapolei area before. The food is consistent but the place has gotten. dirtier and kind of sticky feeling. The food is still great(mochico chicken is good) and the employees are quick to turn tables which is great. Should offer a frequent buyers card for discount or free items with a meal. Some have«happy hour» gyoza and such. The prices have gone up slightly but I assume that’s from the mall raising the rent. I can’t finish all the food they give me so I’m always taking home left overs especially the curry saimin sets.

This location of Sumo Ramen is CLOSED. The new business is called Local Food Express. They said they opened on September 1, 2013. Layout of the restaurant is the same as Sumo Ramen.

Decided to stop here for a quick bite to eat before continuing running errands. very friendly staff they offer a $ 1 menu. Different items each day. How awesome is that??? Tons of items to choose from and reasonably priced. I ordered the curry udon. The curry at the top was a little luke warm but once i mixed everything around it was perfect. Curry was a little on the thick side. I prefer a little less thick and a little more soupy but the flavor was good.

I was here yesterday, at the Sumo Ramen and Curry House in Kapolei, HI. The name is misleading as ramen is only part of what they do. I dined here with a very good friend of mine(Paul C.) who has a taste for good food, and actually comes here often. I think that says something… Service was great, I can’t say much more. Courteous, fast, efficient — that’s all I ask — no noodling around. They nailed it. Food was good. Not exceptional, but really good. About a 3.5 on a scale of 5. Prices were more than fair for Hawaii. Our entrees were about $ 7-$ 8. That’s great — then again, this was Kapolei and not Waikiki. Location was good — near other shopping and things to do. So, in summary… Food 3.5 Service 40 Cleanliness 4.0 Location 3.8 Overall: 4 Stars So the next time you find yourself headed toward the leeward side of Oahu, if you’re hungry, then you have an oasis in the Sumo Ramen and Curry House. Until next time, my friends… Happy Exploring! Ferdinand Magellan

The first time I went I ordered the beef curry with a side of shrimp tempura! It was EXCELLENT! Shrimp tempura was crunchy and my beef was super soft and the spice was just right. However the last 2 times I ordered my beef was so tough I couldn’t even rip it apart with my fingers, lol I was only able to eat half the beef in my order :(and it had no spice! The staff seemed very friendly the 3 times I’ve been there. I had a big order and one of the ladies helped me to my car because i had my son to carry. Fast service. If you go during lunch better off parking across the street an walking because it literally took me about 13 minutes of circling the shopping area for a space. I do recommend this place and I will be a returning customer despite my «tough» beef experience, lol. I’ll just speak up next time ;)

Ramen & Curry… My 2 Faves all in One Restaurant! This establishment is located in the Beautiful City of Kapolei, Across the street from the Kapolei Shopping Center. Near the Chevron Gas Station, Downstairs next to Starbucks & Jamba Juice! I went here with a Very Good friend of mine… for Lunch! I ordered the Shrimp Tempura Combo Plate, and my friend Ordered the Fried Rice Combo Plate… In detail, the Combo Plate Consists of an Entrée of Your Choice, a bowl of Ramen, and 4 Pieces of ManDoo! And Lemme tell ya… the Prices here are Very Reasonable, Considering the amount of food paced before you, haha! The parking is Really a Hit or Miss, since this establishment is shared with many more Shoppes, and Doctor’s Offices! The establishment itself is Really Clean, and there is limited seating. But, the Food is well for lack of Better words… Yummm! The Workers are Very Polite & Friendly, and will Explain anything to you, should you have any questions… You can bet that I will be going back here… Over & Over again!

It looks like Sumo Curry has new owners and all new workers; none of the same people that have been working there for forever. The food still tastes close to the same. Although I don’t like the fact that they raise the prices, yet the portions got smaller – I understand times are hard, but do one or the other. Not both.

Ahhh Ramen! It’s a perfect way to warm up your soul. Parking here is such a hit or miss, because the lot is shared with of course the other food joints here! and the food as well is the a hit or miss. Let me tell Thee WHY: –My favorite one HERE since I’ve been here twice, is the Mochiko chicken curry ramen! Omgoodyness of all that is deliciously ramen and chicken! –The Curry Ramen… I have NO idea what happened here, this was my first bowl and I didn’t like it ATALL, something was missing. Something was just OFF. It could’ve been the flavor of it? I felt like it was too sweet for it to be called curry, since in my opinion curry should be more spicy! The amount given here though, is very large and it’s just the regular bowl! You really need to love Ramen to eat that much sodium and noodles bro. I mean a woman like myself can eat and most def. has appetite, but this bowl was just too big for my own good! The customer service? always welcoming, and friendly. Some customers here are quite rude, and distasteful. I wish people would just have common courtesy! I get it that sometimes workers make meeley mistakes but that’s what we do as HUMANS, we make mistakes. So a little tip for some customers, have respect, unless it gets really bad. Otherwise, I will come again because it’s always nice to not drive far to get a decent dish of ramen!

After losing a baseball game, we were all in need of good comfort food. We decided on sumo ramen since you really can’t go wrong with ramen. We were greeted and seated instantly. We ordered two combos for hubs, me and our two rugrats. I asked for more noodles in my ramen which they charged a dollar more. I didn’t realize I’d get twice the ramen! Wholly cannoli! It was huge! The ramen taste had a more Chinese flair… maybe cuz it’s run by Chinese folks or because the ramen had a ton of bean sprouts in it which I associate with Chinese noodles. Hubs got the croquette curry which was pretty awesome… perfectly crispy on the outside. and not smothered in the perfect curry bath adjacent to it. Hubs is super picky about his curry. Normally he says his food is ok. Today he actually said its good which doesn’t mean much to you but he rarely says anything is good. The fried rice that comes with the combo was also surprisingly large and tasty without the surplus oil. All in all, a winner in a mini mall in kapolei… finally! Four full tummies, completely satiated for less than 21 $. They’ve also got party trays for 19.99 each. I know where to go now for catering. My only complaint. and it’s not a biggie… is they need to update their menus. They’ve increased the prices…0.50 for the meals. And 0.25 for he appetizers. Just buy new menus!!! It feels weird to knowingly pay more for food. Good deal still, but just a bit tacky… just sayin.

I got the shrimp tempura with curry rice. Shrimp tempura was good, but I was not a fan of the curry sauce with the rice. My kids liked it though. I would go back to try other dishes, but not sure bout the curry…

A friend and I decided to come here after watching a movie. I was hesitant because ramen is not something I really, really enjoy eating, but was assured that there were other things I could eat. Fine. I ordered the shrimp tempura curry, and my friend got the chicken katsu curry and cold tofu as an appetizer. The woman that helped us was very nice, attentive, and friendly. However, it took about 15 or 20 minutes to get our food. Considering there were only 2 other people waiting for food, and all the others were already eating, it seemed like a long wait. We ended up getting all the food at once. My friend was a bit irritated because the tofu was supposed to be an «appetizer». I was more concerned about the fact that I only had 4 small shrimp with my curry and he had 2 huge pieces of katsu(easily enough for 2 people). What’s up with that? I mean, it would be fine of they were jumbo shrimp, but no, they were small(not your average tempura size). And, after he took a bite of one, I was left with 3.25 shrimp… Overall a good experience, considering the cleanliness, friendliness of the staff, and prices. I can’t say that I will be a regular, but if I get the urge to have ramen or curry, I might consider coming back, especially since it’s close to my house.

After waiting in line at the social security office upstairs, I decided to grab lunch from here. The lady who took my order was very friendly :) I ordered the chicken katsu curry. It only took about 5 minutes for my order to be ready(i was the only one in there). Overall, it was good but the curry was just a little too salty for my taste. The ramen looked pretty good – probably should’ve went with that since they are called Sumo RAMEN haha: P I’d give this place another try if I’m ever in the area.

Be careful, google maps has this location all misconfigured. The place is located inside the Kapolei mall, Ste 101B, keep driving into town, it’s not off the highway– like your gps may lead you to believe. Sumo sits between PapaJohn’s & JambaJuice. The menu is extensive, soooo many choices. LOTS of items at really affordable prices. The combo is a sure steal, it comes with a little ramen bowl, fried rice and gyoza– which were both tasty and not dried out. We ordered some kind of chicken for appetizers. I opted for the Sumo Ramen– our sweet server warned, «It is really big.» «Oh that’s good, I’m really hungry.» WHOA! My bowl was literally four times bigger than my friend’s ramen [see picture]. I liked my miso broth, the sumo ramen comes with chicken katsu, seaweed, corn, a boiled egg… etc. It REALLY fills you up. My friend wasn’t too fond of her own, forget which one she got but it had a little chili pepper next to it, it was too spicy for her liking so she asked them to add more broth, even then, still liked my ramen better. Good place for a fast meal– friendly and quick service.

Getting there: Right next to Jamba Juice in the main Kapolei mall. Plenty of parking on either side of the mall and an easy walk if the area is busy. Ambiance: Feels like a diner style noodle shop. Service: Water level checks but food comes out as dishes are finished rather than all at once. I notice some diners do this rather than completing all dishes before serving. Quick service. Food: They have a wide selection of ramen, soba, and rice curry dishes. Standard gyoza and other side dishes as well as some combo items. Perhaps this is where I went wrong or didn’t look at the picture too closely but the Tonkatsu ramen bowl dish consists of a really a thin slice of pork plus half a hard boiled egg. It contained A LOT of bean sprouts. In fact, I’d say it was half bean sprouts and half noodles thereby making it hard for me to really comment on the noodles themselv. On the plus side, the soup was savory without being too oily. Who to bring: Tables fit 4 – 5 at most. How much to bring: Reasonable prices. Verdict: 2 stars based purely on the disappointing amount of meat and noodle to veggie ratio. Perhaps if I went with a different dish I’d have had a different experience. Final notes: Would probably have enjoyed it more had I ordered a side dish. Can’t comment on their curry. Reasonable prices may warrant multiple visits to get a clearer impression.

Where does a city-dweller dine when they make the epic journey out to Kapolei? Well, Sumo Ramen is certainly a viable option if you are in the mood for some noodles or some curry! Located right in the heart of Kapolei, they feature a great menu, good service, and most importantly good food. The Miso Udon was nice with perfectly cooked noodles that weren’t mushy, nor were they raw. It was complemented with a nice miso broth that wasn’t too salty and had lots of flavor. The two slices of roast pork were just the nice touch and just the right amount of protein. The mochiko chicken was alright, however not something I would keep coming back for more. The curry was nice with a nice balance that wasn’t overwhelmingly spicy, however I could certainly see it as lacking if you like that heat. The restaurant exudes that casual feel with simple tables and chairs which were clean and orderly. Not the most comfortable, but it certainly does the job. Prices were rather reasonable and on the affordable side. Most entrée items being around 7.00 with decent portions are certainly nothing to sneer at. Sumo Ramen certainly is a good choice if the mood strikes you, however at the same time there were certainly no items on the menu that made me go wow!

Ramen? This is what they’re suppose to be known for. Says so in their name. I was so disappointed when I ordered the spicy beef ramen. The food came out piping hot, but the meat had a bit more fat than I anticipated. The taste of the noodle wasn’t too bad either. I also tried their gyoza and it was just a-ok. The rest of the stuff on their menu was either fried or deep fried meats. Nothing fantastic about this place.

The food here is probably 3 stars but it gets an extra star for the value and price that you get the food for. Came here tonight for dinner after finding this place on Unilocal.Ordered the ramen despite some of the warnings I read. Honestly the broth is really good. I had the tonkatsu ramen and the flavor of the broth was great. But the noodles were soggy. I prefer chewier noodles. Hubby had the katsu curry combo and that came with shioyu broth ramen and gyoza. He seemed to enjoy it especially with the price being so cheap. I also ordered the tako yaki balls. They weren’t the frozen microwaved ones that I had feared them to be! You can actually see the chunks of squid. Overall, it was a decent meal for that price. Our total with tip was $ 24. Same as our bar bill for two drinks. Can’t beat that!
