We all had different things off the menu and they were all great! We wish we found this place before the last day of our trip to Kauai.

My favorite place for Ahi Tostadas. Generous portions, friendly«aloha» service, awesome atmosphere, great happy hour! Mason jars for drinking glasses, at home feeling!

A 5 star«hole-in-the-wall» restaurant. Some of the best mexican food I’ve had. Great waiter. Great prices. HUGE servings! Great salsa. Got the signature dish and nachos.

The food here was delicious. The service was fast and friendly. The atmosphere was kinda cramped, it is in a small suite of a strip mall, but still fun and trendy. The knock that prevented it from earning five stars was their pricing. It felt like they were trying to nickel and dime the customers. Free chips and salsa when you sit down, but a refill on chips costs extra money. If you want hot sauce for your taco it costs extra money. A side of beans and rice with you tacos costs extra money. Absolutely nothing comes standard with the meal here.

This place gets packed, but worth the wait. I got the veggie sopapillas and it was full of flavor! The portions are big! I recommend for vegetarians and vegans!

I give this place 4 stars, not 5, for the unfair reason that it’s food doesn’t taste like New Mexican food, even though it’s very good. Their red and green sauces are unusual, in that they’re glassy, transparent, and while very tasty, not like you’d get at, say, the Rancho de Chimayo Restaurant near Chimayo, NM(only IMHO, the best restaurant of its kind in NM). Two fish burritos, one veggie burrito with fish added, a plate with two smallish fish tacos, and eight margaritas totaled $ 153. One round of four special Pina Verde Picante margs at $ 12 each spiked the total, and really they weren’t any better than the second round of very good house margs at $ 6 apiece. Service was good, and we lucked out by arriving after the dinner rush, so we didn’t have to wait for a table. I’d go back. And I should add, that we ate fish tacos at four different places, and it’s unrealistic to expect them to taste like they do anywhere in Cali or the Southwest. Most don’t have any heat, and at Verde, you do at least get that.

First time here. delicious!!! Their beef is local and fish is fresh. I had the kaui beef quesadilla and my husband had the mahimahi and ahi tacos!!! Generous portions too. Brittany was our server… Friendly and attentive! Well worth it. Don’t be deceived by its location.

Cute place! Very small, which I like. I hear there can be a wait but found seats at the bar right away. Happened to go on Margarita Monday($ 3 house margs –rum and Kirkland brand mix, tart and typical). The signature margarita looked amazing but couldn’t rationalize the $ 12 on $ 3 marg night, but will try next time. Stacked enchiladas and mahi fish tacos were both awesome!!! Rice and beans very yummy and a bit spicy. Side of chips and Guacamole not so good… seemed like grocery store guac… smooth and creamy and very salty… not up to the quality of the entrees. And some of the chips were stale. Weird. Entrees so good though, still giving 4 starts.

I was super excited after reading so many great reviews. I thought this place was going to make my trip to Kauai worth it since I haven’t had anything decent to eat. I decided to order for take out because I had a long day snorkeling and tanning at Poipu beach. I order 2 garlic shrimp tacos and 2 mahi mahi fish tacos last night. I was staying at the courtyard by the Marriott so I was less than a mile away. Got there less than 5mins and the food was ready for me. I thought this is great because the lady had said it will take 10−15mins when I called in my order. . Got the food in cute boxes and nicely packed. Again less than 5mins to get back to the hotel and to my room. When I opened the boxes the food look nicely made, but not hot! Not even warm! Really? Yes it was completely cold! I’m thinking it’s okay because I’m really hungry. My boyfriend and I each had one shrimp and one mahi. This is the worst over priced tacos in my life! Just worst food period! It was about $ 15 for 2 shrimp tacos and each tacos only had 3 shrimps. These were the smallest shrimps and extremely salty. I have to say the only thing decent was the fresh guacamole and the lettuce. But it still wasn’t worth $ 15! Ugh Then the mahi mahi tacos were about the same price $ 15 or a little more than $ 15. These tacos were gross because it came with some salsa or some kind of sauce that was really watery. Made the tacos soggy and again it was salty and cold. The fish didn’t taste fresh and very dried. My boyfriend couldn’t even eat the whole taco. He toss half of it. I’m all about spending money on good food. Honestly if these tacos were amazing like the reviews had said, then I would not mind paying $ 30ish for 4 tacos. Good lord if they were bomb as tacos I would pay $ 50! Not only were the tacos not worth it, but it gave me diarrhea all night after 30mins! Ugh! Really tho, shame on me for not driving off after arriving in the parking lot and seeing the place 75% empty inside. Go some where else people… Tacos bell would probably be a safer choice and I wouldn’t eat there.

The only place I’m craving to eat at in Kapaa is Chicken in a Barrel, now I can add Verde. Awesome Mexican food in Kauai? What?! Yes, it’s true. Verde is my favorite Mexican restaurant on the island! We ordered the limonada for our drinks, it’s refreshing and not too sweet. They give you complimentary chips and salsa. We saw a couple of tables that ordered guac, so we had to get it. They give you a generous amount of guac. We couldn’t finish it, so we took it home. We ordered an Al Pastor burrito and Stacked Al Pastor enchiladas. Both dishes were huge, we couldn’t finish it. They are not stingy with the meat content! Rice and beans costs an additional $ 2.50 but so worth it. Overall we had an amazing lunch and hopefully we can go back on a weekday to indulge in a lunch special!

This small little strip-mall restaurant sure was a surprise. One of the best meals we had in Kauai, hands down. It’s tiny and doesn’t offer a lot of seating, but the service was great. I would order the Al Pastor tacos over and over again. The stacked enchilada was also great, but couldn’t win when compared to the Al Pastor tacos. The margarita wasn’t fresh squeezed or homemade, but for the cheap Happy Hour price, I’m not complaining! The one thing I didn’t like about this place was the rice and beans. They weren’t impressive and I would skip them next time. The vast amount reviews for this place speak for itself, so I’ll keep this review short and sweet. Seriously though — this is a gem. Don’t skip it when you’re in Kauai.

Trendy-style fresh Mex. And when I say trendy, I mean, if you order draft beer, it comes in a mason jar, gluten free options available, etc. We got the shrimp tacos and the al pastor tacos. The shrimp tacos were white dry, especially since they were breaded with cornmeal. The al pastor tacos were just okay. Worth stopping by if you need some variety in your meals while on the island, but not must-go. TLDR: Trendy fresh Mex.

Drinks alone I would give this place 5 stars. Their special house margarita is made with fresh pressed fruit juice and several other flavors, including muddled cilantro, and was nothing short of amazing. The food was pretty good, I had the fish tacos which I liked(but wouldn’t say I loved) and my bf had a burrito which was also average but not bad. The service was good and the menu featured a lot of locally sourced ingredients if that is something you feel strongly about.

The best food on Kauai is… Mexican?! Yes, it might not make sense but this spot was delicious. I highly recommend coming here! The waitstaff was so nice and the service was efficient and speedy. It can be tough handling a large party(we were 7) but they did it with a smile! Great choices and everyone loved the freshness and flavor of their food: vegetarians and carnivores alike!

Nice little spot in a shopping center. Pretty warm on the inside, no AC. Played some great cuts on the radio/spotify? Either way, good music makes up for the warmth. Almost like in da club. Even had a refreshing ginger-cilantro mojito. Staff was having a fun time, and it showed, good vibes. For appy’s: Had the Garlic shrimp quesadilla. Oh so flavorful! That garlic/chipotle aioli slathered on every bite with the melted cheese, probably best thing we ate.(FYI, also amazing cold, for a late night snack) Ahi tuna tacos: As billed — medium rare with an appropriate sear. Two really is enough. Smothered mahi mahi burrito(fresh catch): Could have used more fish, not every bite had one unfortunately. Lots of fillers to make up for it. Watch out for the green chile sauce. Definitely more spice than the red. I think that if you are looking for some fresh with Mexican flair, check this place out. Don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Don’t let the strip mall location fool you. This is the best mexican food on the island. For sure, order their ahi tacos. We went twice and had the garlic shrimp tacos & ahi tacos the first time. Raved about them all week so on our way down to Poipu, we stopped by again. This time, we just got the Ahi ones. The sauce on them is sublime. Addicting stuff! Order them – you won’t be disappointed. Our server was great. Ask about their loyalty card if you plan to spend $ 100 or more.

Amazing mahi tacos. No doubt about that. …bad part is that they nickel and dime you. I came on Monday at 6 and the restaurant was just filling up with the dinner crowd. Another 5 minutes and we would have had to wait for seats. I was getting a bit upset with how long it was taking to take our order, but the guy who ended up taking our order explained that one of their servers called in sick and the folks in the kitchen were helping. The specials for the day was mahi mahi and ahi. I opted for the mix and match tacos. They don’t explicitly say you can do that in the menu but I saw another Unilocaler suggest that, so I did just that. I tried the steak and mahi. I give the steak taco a 2.5÷5 stars. It was flavorful, but it was pulled beef instead of steak. The mahi was a 5⁄5 stars. The fish was super tender, unlike any other mahi mahi anything that I’ve ever had. Things to note: — Monday’s are margarita Monday’s with $ 3 margaritas — you CAN mix and match tacos — always go for the mahi tacos — you will get nickel and dimed — they didn’t tell me the hot sauce was an extra TWO dollars for .5 ounce of not good hot sauce. They also charge for additional chips after the first basket.

We were looking for a place for a late lunch and Verde didn’t close early like some of the other places, so we gave them a chance. Friendly greeting, we sat at the bar, the cold AC hitting me, and it felt good. We ordered house margaritas and they were pretty good, not as strong as what we’re use to, but good flavor. I ordered a chicken burrito, the partner had the carne. Both were good sized but I feel mine was the better of the two. The only problem, which I found is one on the islands, is that there’s no decent rice and beans that come with. Other than that, our meals hit the spot. Our server was friendly, and they became very busy as we ate our lunch. Verde is worth checking out.
