Had the $ 8.00 fish taco, about 6 small cubes of over cooked chewy flavorless ono & lots of cabbage. The«tortilla» was more of a flatbread.

So good. Upon recommendation, I ordered one Kalua Pig tacos with extra veggies. It was a healthy and satisfying meal. If you are on the east side, you should definitely stop in and give this place a try. And they make their own corn tortillas. Amazing!

Got the chicken taco. Large portion but kinda pricey. Took a long time to get order though. Overall tasty.

This place is so delicious. Muy ono!!! I actually ate here twice today it was THAT good. No chips, no beans no rice– just really yummy, fresh, clean food. They use fresh island grown meat and produce. The service is awesome– the girls working the counter were friendly, sweet and helpful. Very limited selection on drinks, but they don’t mind if you BYO. Try the Muyan Hawaiian taco. I can already tell I’m going to have withdrawals once I get back to the mainland

Got a pollo loco and fish taco after 16 hours of traveling to get to Kauai. Some of the best tacos I’ve had(including some I’ve had in Austin, TX). The tacos range from $ 5-$ 9 but they are almost meals in themselves. The fact that they make the tortillas from scratch is always a good sign. Interestingly, the fish taco is not fried but grilled, which seemed fresher to me.

Finally some decent food on Kauai. I would hardly qualify myself as a taco whisperer but I live in Los Angeles, hail from Texas and lived lots of places in between, plus a dozen or so trips to Mexico so a fan perhaps greater than average. Had 2 kinds of pork tacos, roasted and kalua, now let me preface this by saying that I don’t eat pork, not for religious reasons or anything, simply due to I’m too lazy to cook raw meat at home… Anyhow, small attitude from the Mexican soccer jersey-wearing boy who took our order, until I ordered in Spanish. There was a group of homeless gueros, the guys with tanned skin and bleach blonde dreads and a girl wearing no bra all splitting one taco and refilling their water bottles with the water dispenser meant for guests, so that may have been the source of the cashier’s discomfort… who knows? we spent two weeks in Kauai and only went here our last day, could have easily gone back several times during our trip but I have come to expect pretty average and overpriced food in Hawaii, although I do know freight charges to Hawaii is real but if you are sourcing produce & proteins locally, I would think the prices could come down. Not that $ 12 for two tacos is unreasonable as these are much, much larger than street tacos. I think 5 trips in 4 years that this is my first 4 star review for food in the islands!

Amazing and enormous organic, GMO-free tacos. Well worth the price, given how fresh and delicious these tacos are and how generous the portions are. The tortillas are thick and fresh and just glorious. The wait can be a little lengthy… But id rather wait 10 – 15 minutes for hot, fresh, made-to-order food… And the owners(a Latina and her husband) were So sweet. I would eat here daily if I could!

I saw the good reviews and decided to check this place out. I ordered fish tacos and they were not good. The fish was steamed or something, and was extremely bland and overcooked. Also, the tacos were packed to the brim with cabbage. It was basically a cabbage taco. I thought it was just me, but my husband ordered carne asada tacos, and his were also packed with mediocre filling and not a lot of carne asada. I could have spent $ 6 at taco bell and had a better meal. Very disappointing.

Found this gem after a long morning drive and meditation session at the Hindu monetary. Everything taco is my San Diego style. Everything is local, real farm to table. Grass fed lamb and beef. All local veggies, and gluten free tortillas. Tortilla dough made fresh daily. Local vibe, order at the counter and pick up. Indoor and outdoor seating. Two tacos are a meal. Large and filled to the max. The grilled veggie taco and the quesadilla with grilled veggies was exceptional. My husband enjoyed the surf and turf followed by seared ahi. Fresh, fresh!

When I came across this place on Unilocal I saw that their tacos were $ 6. Never in my life have I seen a taco for that much! We phoned in our order and a gringa took our order. I asked for, «Un taco de asada». She couldn’t understand and said, «Oh! One carneeeey asaaaduh taco.» I almost backed out of my order and hung up the phone right there and was thinking taco bell instead. She also told us that takeout boxes were another 50 cents each(two tacos fit in one box) and to add salsa fresco(pico de gallo) would be another $ 1 each. I scared to ask about free napkins and the usual free chips. I took a chance and ordered 1 asada and 2 asada fire tacos. When we got our order the tacos were huge! Almost the size of a gyro and stuffed to da max! It had local Kauai meat with a legit Nor cal style plancha taste. Salsa had good heat, kinda on the sour side with a little too much vinegar. It was also topped with red and regular cabbage, mozzarella cheese(would be more legit with monterey jack), and sour cream. The best part of the taco was the fresh tortilla made to order. It had more like a gordita/pita bread kinda vibe. Overall the whole taco had the feel of sopes with all the toppings. This place is legit and is up to par with my Cali-bred taste buds. Since living in Hawaii for 3 years, this is the only Mexican joint I’d come back to. $ 6 is kinda scary at first, but 1 satisfied me as much as 3 standard taco truck tacos. Hopefully the two latino bros in the back cooking could open up their own truck in Oahu, I’d definitely be a regular. One last thought… my wife and I thought it was funny that everything on the menu had a local, organic, non-GMO vibe and we saw empty Meadow Gold sour cream containers hanging in the kitchen area.

We came here on a Sunday evening. It was busy. Line to the door. It’s a small place. A few spots to sit. Expect to wait because it takes some time to place an order and get the meal ready. We had about 5 people ahead of us. Took us nearly an hour to get our tacos. The tacos are large. 2 is more than enough. We had the carne asada, fish, and the special. Some of the tacos reaching $ 12 are a bit over priced in my opinion and not worth it. Even for the size. I’d say $ 7-$ 8 is more reasonable. In any case. The meal was good. We wanted to return for a few more of the asada and chicken. Don’t expect friendly service. I would of given a 5 star. But the wait was rather long and the customer service wasn’t good. I don’t think I heard the guy at the front greet 1 person, say thank you, or even smile the whole 1.5 hours we were there. That is probably the first improvement that should be made.

Not da kine at all!!! Unless you are looking for totally bland tacos with a sopping wet with grease tortilla, this is not the place to eat. Not to mention that they charge extra for freakin’ lettuce!!! No paper towels nor soap in the restrooms and when I mentioned it, dude laughed and said«That’s the way we like it.» So I am assuming that none of the employees wash their hands after going to the bathroom. NASTY!

I have multiple really, really good reasons to give this place a one star. I HAVENOIDEAWHATPEOPLEARERAVINGABOUT. I came here on vacation after reading some great reviews on Unilocal(THANKSGUYS…). I ordered the best fish taco and the other fish taco(the one that was spicy), my bf also ordered the best fish tacos as well because, WELLTHEYSHOULDBECALLEDBESTFISHTACOSFOR A REASONRIGHT? We both sat there and ate in silence, underwhelmed at the soggy, flavorless tacos – regretting every step we took to get to this restaurant. I didn’t want to say anything bad about the restaurant because the cashier was right in front of us. But as soon as we finished eating and got into our car, my bf and I could not shut up about how shitty those tacos were. SERVICE: very annoying. They put up this frontier that they give a care but it’s really fake and slows up the process. The cashier lady spent a solid five mins just talking to some guy ordering food. She tells the rest of us that she«will be right with you in a moment,» and walks to the kitchen to chat another two mins. Meanwhile the line is building up. ALSO, beware, they upsell you fresca(which is pretty much a gimmick because you actually have to have the Fresca or else you would be eating a dry taco with just tortilla and meat and you would choke). Service sucked so I didn’t leave a tip. It would be disrespectful to all the true, good service out there if I gave this cashier a tip. FOOD: most important part here. Regardless if you ignore any other part of this review, don’t ignore this section. After extensive research on Unilocal,I figured the best fish tacos should be the best to get after raving reviews(THANKSGUYSAGAIN). I got it and it looked good presentation way. I took a bite and had to question if I actually bit into the fish. The fish tasted like this bland, leftover chicken. I so BADLY needed to drown my taco in salsa. Why was the fish so tasteless? Are my taste buds broken? What’s happening to me? Is something wrong with me? …NO this place just has crappy fish tacos. TORTILLA: I have no idea why they pride themselves on their crappy tortilla. Yes it’s homemade but I rather go to the store and buy tortillas and it would still taste 100x better. Holy crap, this was bland, thick, large, soggy and just bad. Didn’t taste like a tortilla to me. I don’t care it’s gluten free, I have had gluten free manufactured tortillas from the store— THEYAREALLBETTER. PRICE: one dollar sign? You really think you are one dollar sign? It’s about 7 bucks(plus 1 dollar for Fresca aka lettuce), 8 bucks for a SINGLETACO. Are you just gonna eat one taco for dinner? Hmm? I didn’t think so. This easily goes over 10 dollars and I ordered two fish tacos for 16 bucks. The meal for two reached 30 and I wasn’t even impressed. This was a janky little place in a strip mall. Besides us there was some nomads/hitchhikers who hopefully didn’t save all their money to spend money here. VERDICT: WHYCOMEHEREWHENYOUCANGOTOTACOBELLANDGETFOODPOISONINGANDSTILLHAVEITBEMOREWORTHTHANTHISTACOPLACE. DONTCOMEHERE.

We were starving after arriving on Kauai. We were on our way to Princeville, and my daughter had found this place on Unilocal. We drove up, it looks a little sketch as it’s in a tiny strip mall. Walk in, vibrant colors and cool skeleton arts. Asked the gal at the counter what the fish in the tacos were. I ordered the Ono taco and an Ono and shrimp taco. Grabbed a guava drink and tried it out. Tons of fresh fish, yummy cabbage and sauce. So fresh a delicious. I would go back once a week if I lived on Kauai. Check it out.

Great fish tacos, all vegetables are farmed fresh by the owner. Any fresher and I’d be eating dirt Food: I ordered the Best Fish Taco and Spicy Chicken. Firstly, the tacos are huge. Fish taco was great, not the ‘best’ but tasty. The Salsa Fresca was very fresh. Service: cashier was nice, everything was self service Ambiance: divey, beach bum taco joint. Surfers and backpackers love this place Price: reasonable, 7 – 8 per taco. BOOM

Stopped in here with my grandmother, my husband, and our toddler– three very different palates, but all of us love tacos! My husband is a real taco connoisseur and he says these were the best tacos he’d ever had. Homemade tortillas really add a lot, they are fantastic! We also really enjoyed the green hot sauce. Food is a little slow to come out, but that’s okay because it’s freshly prepared and hot and delicious. Portions are huge, we each were full with a single taco. Atmosphere is good for a strip mall location, a bit of a Dia de los Muertos theme which creeped my grandmother out but fascinated my daughter.

Bomb tacos! Also hugeeee might i add. As we are used to ordering back home(aka small portions central), we ordered two tacos each and let me just say we could have fed a litter with that amount of food. One taco person is plenty. We got the shrimp, chicken and the fish tacos and loved all of them. We also loaded each taco with guacamole and sour cream, because why not, also because you don’t calorie count on a vacation. The address on Unilocal is incorrect, search for the taco place by name directly on g-maps and it takes you to the right place.

HUUUUUGE tacos. Pictures don’t do justice to the behemoth that is this taco. Packed full of meat, toppings, and unique sauces, they are one of a kind. Be careful with the amount of spice in the spicy options. They can get QUITE spicy with the jalapeños. Will return. Very convenient location minutes from Courtyard Marriott. The wait was crazy long. They were filling a few bulk orders that night so may have been a one-off day.

There are plenty other taco places in Kauai and Unilocal led me to Tako Tiki. The Unilocal address is incorrect. Go type in Tako tiki on google map and it’ll save you 10 minutes looking for the place. Their tacos are bigger than the usual tacos I am used to. So one may be sufficient but two will definitely fill you up good. We had the carne asada, fish tacos, fire tiki roasted vegetables(really spicy), and the the spicy fish tacos(can’t remember the name). Their spicy is no kidding spicy so beware. Also make sure you put on some bard sauce. It can get messy I wish I have a real plate instead of the basket but we demolished it regardless. $ 26 for 4 good sized tacos. Service is very friendly. There are a few tables, we didn’t have to wait for one when we were there around 7pm in late November.

Finally, My Fourth Centennial Review!!! And, I couldn’t be happier to review this outstanding Taco Shack! This was simply outstanding and delicious. What captures the essence of this place is its simplicity, no frills, hell with décor, just focused on making damn good tacos with loads of flavor. Must try the freshly made salsas, they pack a wallop. Prices are moderately higher but for the quantity it matches the quality!
