I was so excited to be heading to It’s Only Natural for the first time. But when I arrived at the location, it was nowhere to be found! I walked in to the Classic Cookie next door and was told that It’s Only Natural had recently closed. Bummer! So beware, as of 1÷15÷2011 this store is no longer in existence. **And the one star is not for the rating, there is no such rating for ‘not applicable’, which is really more appropriate here.

I walked in here stuffing my face with a cookie from it’s neighbor, Classic Cookie, when Courtney, the owner, asked me how I was. I could only smile because my mouth was full, feeling a bit embarrassed. She said it happened all the time. Hah! Well, I managed to make my way around the store and felt really excited that now I knew where to come for baby clothes and toys. Offering all sorts of products and clothing of the all natural variety, I felt a sense of ease and comfort. Finally, a store with a conscious! And these aren’t splurge items, this was clothing, cleaning supplies, bed sheets, towels – real things you need in life! If you have the option to be green, do it! I beg you, my unborn child begs you! Err… sorry, didn’t mean to step up on my soap box… but this is important. I also loved how simple this store was, and how sweet Courtney was. She started this company because she was concerned about the safety of products she and her family use and wear. Thinking their might be like minded people, she opened up shop. Boy, she was right! Kudos to you Courtney!

I discovered Courtney’s quaint shop when I was researching an article on Green Fashion. It was a wonderful little boutique in the heart of the Brookside neighborhood in Kansas City. I, like most, had a preconceived notion of organic clothing(picture a burlap sack and Birkenstocks). I love to be wrong. It’s Only Natural was the brainchild of Courtney, a lovely Mother whose entrepreneurial skills and environmental concerns married to open It;s Only Natural. The boutique offers a wide range of stylish all natural clothing made from sustainable cottons, soys, hemps and other organic materials. In addition to clothing, you can find all natural bath products, make-up(if you knew what was in your drugstore mascara…), laundry detergent, accessories, baby products and clothing for plus sizes. Courtney was friendly and accessible(again the bonus of shopping at locally owned boutiques). An organic dress may cost a few more dollars than a synthetic dress of similar taste, but the material will last longer, and the chemical impact on the environment will be lessened thus alleviating future costs. There was a couple from Colorado who had stopped in and I overheard their conversation with Courtney. She was full of knowledge and was willing to look into sending them a product that she did not have in stock. It was like shopping with a classy, caring friend. It’s Only Natural is an asset to Kansas City and I encourage anyone(Green or Not) to check it out. The boutique carries labels like Patagonia and Fin organics and all items are Fair Trade certified.
