I stopped on a whim tonight. I love Mexican food especially if it’s authentic. I ordered 2 Carnitas tacos and chips & salsa. The carnitas meat was dry with no flavor and there wasn’t much meat in the taco at all. Totally bummed me out. I had super high expectations. The salsa was odd, not sure how else to describe it. Something tells me I should give the place another chance. From the pics here on Unilocal Asada tacos or a quesadilla might be a better choice. I’ll try again my next trip out this way.

If you are missing the kind of street tacos that you get in SoCal and BC Mexico, this is the place. Right down to the green and red sauces in bottles on the tables, I feel like I’m at back home at Roberto’s…except with high humidity. I have been searching for this kind of sabór in Jacksonville for 3 years. If you need your San Diego fix, look no further.

Now this truck has been out for a while now. It just used to come out late at night and stay open to the wee hours of the morning. Living a long ways away and not going out that late night scene anymore. I never have had a chance to eat with them. Today I was driving down 3rd street and saw their window open and a sign up. Slamming on the brakes and being flipped off by a couple of townies I turned in. There it was the drunken holy grail of late night help sober you up food. They have tacos, burritos, quesadillas, they even have my Mexican favorite lengua or beef tongue to you gringos. Today I wanted to try some of their tacos. So I went with a chorizo and some pastor(pork) tacos. When I was waiting and looking around their 6’x 8′ trailer I saw a tortilla press like I haven’t seen since I was in Mexico surfing in the little food shacks on the beach. This one obviously made the trip with them from the homeland. It looked like the owners grandma’s press. Hand made and well used by the looks of it. Now they are going to be opening now now for lunch and very soon for breakfast thru midnight and on weekends 2 – 3 am in the morning. So my tacos were really good and the chorizo made this old man sausage maker guy happy. The pork needed a bit more seasonings for me but I’m like really picky when it comes to pork. So I would defiantly make this place a stop for quick tacos other tasty things to eat. I know I’ll be back.

GOHERE! BEST tacos in Jax! Authentic, true Mexican tacos down to the fresh corn tortillas & homemade sauces. My favorite: al pastor! The hint of pineapple at the end takes me back to the late night taco stands in the side streets of Guanajuato, Mexico. No other Jax taco place comes close.

Don’t judge a book by its cover, because Jalapeño Express is a completely legit food truck. Plus, they’re open late! I visited on a week night around 8pm and there was a line. According to the customers, this place usually has a line. I ordered three tacos — Pastor, Carnitas and Camarones. They were all delicious. What stood out the most were the double-wrapped corn tortillas. That’s right, two tortillas for EACH taco. The consistency and texture of the tortillas elevated the overall taste to flavortown nirvana. Most tacos here, i.e. the Pastor and Carnitas, are served with onion and cilantro. Very traditional. Sorry guys, no ranch dressing on these tacos! A few tacos, like the Camarones, are served with creamy avocado. Not guacamole. Avocado. Add some of their spicy salsa(red and green) to the mix, maybe a squirt of lime, and you’re all set. The simplicity really shines through with these savory handhelds. It seemed as if each bite got significantly better. I can’t wait to try the entire menu!

THEBEST tacos pastor I have ever had. Hands down. Try the Horchata too, it’s absolutely delicious! We come here at least twice a week– the food is consistently fresh and delicious. Service is quick and easy, everyone who works there is super friendly, and the truck itself is clean. Great, great place!

I’ve been twice now. The first time I had a burrito, and it might have been the best I’ve ever had. Fat, full, and rolled correctly so it didn’t bust out the sides and make a mess. The second time I had 3 tacos: Asada, pollo, carnitas. I wasn’t impressed with the tacos. If I get them again, I’ll ask for cheese to be added. Also, the chicken smelled funny so I’ll stick to pork. Oh yeah, call ahead. They are fast, but everything is made as ordered so I stood outside in the cold for about 15 minutes while some large to go orders were completed.

Without a doubt, the best place for late night authentic Mexican food. So yum, everytime. If you haven’t tried it yet, do! In bike ride distance from home, on the way back from bars, next to the roo. Its one of my favorites! I only give 4 stars because I have gotten my order different then what I requested on several occations. Needless to say I still enjoyed it the same, but avocado in my cali carnitas burrito would have been awesome. Jussayin. Try it, theres no way they’ll let you down. Unless your main focus in life is avocado.

Hands down best burrito in Jacksonville. I ordered the Mexican sausage burrito with rice beans cheese and cilantro(7dollars) and a bottle of water(1 dollar). The ingredients are fresh and the burrito is grilled which is often an over looked step. Also the grill cook asked the cashier to adjust his sleeve(so he could avoid contamination) which is very reassuring. Cheap food and late hours. It’s about time!

I do not see why people rate this place 5 stars. We were excited to go last night but what a disappointment! It is a food truck, I get it but don’t stand outside smoking then go back in to make my food. It took 25 minutes to get my food which is not a big deal if the food was on par. Where to start? The tacos have barely any meat or shrimp on them, smallest shrimp I have ever seen. We ordered chips and salsa, they opened a bag from the grocery store and put them in a container with no salsa. Not to mention that they were terrible. We picked up some red and green so called salsa it is was liquid with a poor taste to it. I could go on and on but this experience was poor and not worth the money. Avoid the hype and try Casa Leon in Mayport which has the real deal Mexican food.

Awesome way to absorb some booze on the way home from the bars. I had a chicken burrito and it was amazing. Big too. The salsa they give with it is great. I especially liked the green one. Going to ask for extra next time.

This place is IT. I’m from San Diego, Ca so being that i didn’t live far from the border means I know real Mexican food. This place is definitely it. All the restaurants here say they are Authentic but they aren’t at all. I found a food truck that has real tortillas that I’m use to and the Horchata is good. I come as often as I can, sometimes 2 or 3 times a week after work. I believe the hours are from 6pm to midnight.
