Jac’s services a very specific niche market, one contingent on interest in gluten-free foods and contingent on the recent health benefits of eating gluten-free. I would say I am apart of the former group of the two; I’m not one of those people who has discovered gluten to be a detriment to my health and well-being, but curious about the culinary impressions this type of business might have in the community and on my tastebuds. I noticed first that the display cases seemed sparsely fitted with baked goods; only one or two muffins where the muffins were to be found, three cookies together, two bagels of each type and only one package of rolls atop a display case. This arrangement of goods in those small quantities offered an overall feeling of scarcity. The shop was very clean and there certainly was a unique flair about the different goods available but, being that I do not personally subscribe to the gluten-free food ethic, it was more difficult for me to enjoy the business’ finer, unique points. I chose an everything bagel that looked as if it had a decent amount of work put into its birth and took it back with me to be attempted with butter. Upon removing the piece of gluten-free bread from its brown paper bag, I noticed it was warm. Cutting into the bagel, the consistency almost offered to me the impression the dough was not entirely cooked but I’m aware that this impression is a reflection of the alternative ingredients used. Adding my butter and finally enjoying the food, it was obvious immediately that the bagel was not a typical bagel. It certainly tasted different; like a bagel but as if the dough used had a consistency less hearty, grainy, less tough, less substance overall replaced with those alternatives used; I would say in comparing it to a bagel it is an almost-bagel. That being said, the bread I consumed was not entirely foreign to a typical bagel. The bread did not cling to the savory taste of the butter like a tradition bread does; traditional bread will complement the flavor of butter, this bagel absorbed and hid the flavor. Spongey is a way to describe the bread. I did not eat the entire bagel because there was quite a lot of dough. It was, though, a valuable learning dive into gluten-free eating. Jac’s is located in the same plaza as H & Y and in Plainview.

I really like the breads and the cookies. Glad there is finally a gluten free place in town and this one is clean and cute, the people are friendly and importantly the food is good

Been there often. Their rolls are just the best. Muffin are Great too… especially the maple bacon. But today I had a chicken parm hero and French fries!!! Loved it. Nice not to have to explain anything when I order!!!

Came here at 3pm on a Friday. Asked for the Kelli salad, said they were out of some ingredients. Opted for another salad instead, $ 12.95. Got my salad. 85% Romaine lettuce, 15% other veggies+chicken that were described on the menu. They also forgot some veggies in the salad(or maybe they were out of these as well), mainly the cucumber and carrots. Tomatoes were not heirloom, just regular beefsteak ones. Surprised at their lack of ingredients. Pretty sure that there is a supermarket in the same lot as they are. After I placed my order, the guy at the counter(without asking) packed my salad to go(I planned to eat in) and just hid himself away in the back. According to other reviews, their bread/bakery items are good. But their salad and service was a complete bust. Will not be returning.

Great gluten-free options. Unfortunately for tree-nut allergy sufferers, everything(and I do mean everything) is made with almond flour. The sweets are tasty. The bread is heavy, but it’s still flavorful.

I wish I could call this an «allergen’s paradise» — sadly, it is not. Positive: If you have celiacs and/or are looking for a place to eat out on a strictly gluten-free diet, this is a great option. The menu, as seen on their website, has plenty of delicious items to choose from for a sufficient meal. There are tables and chairs to eat-in, and a very small section of gluten free packaged foods such as pastas, sauces, etc. However, if you have food allergies, sensitivities and/or intolerances that are not strictly gluten-free and you need to know exactly is going into your body… I would think twice and keep reading. The bakeshop portion of Jac’s was where the disappointment began. There is a medium-sized chalk board that hangs above with listed options. The font was not the largest and I, personally, had a difficult time reading it due to unrelated medical issues. This would normally be okay, if the items been labeled in the counters themselves. A simple index card with the type of the item would be more efficient than a sign that just says, «muffins.» Which leads me to my next point… There were no listed ingredients for the bakery items. A major red flag. We all have experienced the woes of spending hours in a grocery store, reading every single ingredient label on every package to make sure we know exactly what is going into our bodies. Here, nothing. An employee did check with the specific allergens we asked about and, after double checking in the back, gave us a few options. I do see now that the website lists all ingredients for their baked goods but it is unacceptable to not have this information available in-store/on paper. And finally, the BIGGEST alarm: the products were NOT sorted by allergen! This is a one way ticket to cross-contamination island, folks! All bakery items are stored in the same counter and can certainly make contact with each other. So, for example, the soy-free crumb cake is neighbors with the soy-filled cookies. Of all things, THIS I truly cannot fathom! Anyone with any sort of food-related issue knows how a single crumb can be life-threatening. The ignorance of the potential for cross-contamination is absolutely unacceptable for an establishment of this nature. I have no plans on returning to Jac’s unless they do major revamping. Highly disappointed.

What a nice surprise to have a GF establishment open up in my neighborhood! So far, I have tried many cookies and cupcakes from here and they were amazing. Today I had the Tuna Melt on «rye» and it was so delicious. My boyfriend had the Grilled Vegetable on a fake pressed bun. We are in love with this place and how cute it is to eat here. Everything is so fresh and the staff is accommodating. I wish there were more seating ! The weekend brunch time is packed. Get here early if you want to buy GF bread for your freezer. Everything is made daily. I love the rainbow cookies. Soo delicious. People with digestive problems in Long Island are in for a treat … Literally.

I’ve had a cupcake from Jac’s on 2 different occasions and shared a «creamwich»(like a giant whoopie pie made with large cookies) with my brother, since removing gluten from my diet for medical reasons. I actually double and triple-checked the website and the storefront a number of times. I don’t know how they do it! The cupcakes taste like CUPCAKES, not«gf» ones — I got nervous that I was poisoning myself with gluten! But I’m not! Delicious, symptom-free baked goods! I find their icings to be overly sweet — a little rich for me, personally. However, I will return when I have an insatiable hankering for a cupcake, or when I know I have a family birthday and I’d prefer not to stare at everyone longingly while they eat their cake. I might have to remove half of the icing, but who cares?! CUPCAKES! They also have a decent-looking non-dessert menu. I overheard a staff member describing a Greek Quinoa Salad to another customer while I was there — and that sounded delicious! The place was very clean and the prices were reasonable. It is a good choice!
