I have lived in Hayward since 1973. I had never been to The Ranch in Hayward. Today my husband and I decided to try it. What a wonderful experience! The food, the service, the waitress Brandi and the atmosphere were terrific! We will definitely go back many times. Can’t say enough great things about this restaurant. Check it out, you won’t be sorry.

It was my first time here. My husband and I were really excited to try it out. Terrible experience. One of the bus boys was cursing in the middle of the dining room throwing silverware and plates around. The gravy to the mashed potatoes was really salty. I ordered a medium steak it came well done. The corn and peas they put on the plate tasted like it came from a can. Our waiter didn’t even come back to check on us. Terrible service. Terrible food. I will not be coming back.

I tried their fried scallop dish for dinner the other day and I don’t think I’ve ever had scallops so cheaply made before for gourmet prices. I wouldn’t have minded that it was covered in batter if they had only wrote that in the description for the dish. So future diners be warned; their fried scallops are smothered in batter and deep fried fast food style. The scallops were crunchy and bland, it could have been a tatter tot and no one would be the wiser. I thought it was strange that the chef also chose to place the sauces for the fried scallops in the same cup. So along with this plain meal I had a cup that was half tomato sauce and ranch. A future tip, some people are lactose intolerant and mixing the sauces isn’t the greatest idea. Now for dessert. The bread pudding was ok, but they could have at least placed it longer in the microwave to get it warm. It was literally half cold and half warm. When I asked the waiter to warm it up he looked so embarrassed that I would even suggest that it was served cold. I told him to go on and feel it and he reluctantly took it back. I’m afraid to try their breakfast if their dinner bombed this badly.

The best deal is the steak sandwich. It’s the same steak as if you ordered a steak by itself but its cheaper and you get bread with it. The main complaint here are the older lady bartenders… They must have been hot stuff 20 years ago and they still act like it. Not friendly, cold, callousness, bitchy… Call it what you will. I like the food here but the service at the bar leaves very much to be desired.

I’ve eaten here a few times before and it has always been good. Tonite I chose the chicken Parm and I have to say it was really delicious… The chicken was moist and the breading on the chicken was still crispy. We will definitely be back

I’ll make this short. The place smelled like a little bit of pee and a lot of ashtray Even though we were literally the only table there when we ordered our food came out to us lukewarm The server was throwing us attitude and not the kind that’s endearing from an older diner server either. When we asked for something she would get this look on her face like we were hugely inconveniencing her. I guess we are dicks for wanting syrup with our waffles. The pricing is good and the portions are very healthy but that place needs to be cleaned and the server needs an attitude adjustment if I am ever going to go back.

I’ve been eating at The Hayward Ranch with my family for years! Fresh bread & soft butter greets you as you sit down. The atmosphere is an older steakhouse feel with rustic treasures on the wall. Prime rib dinner; rare, blue cheese salad, horseradish(from the back), baked potato and a tall glass of water. Bam.

A well deserved three stars. It’s pretty grimey on the inside but give the food a change. The servers are wonderful and they really take pride in their work. The food is alright as well. My steak was done very nicely and although the cut wasn’t great, the taste was there. Don’t get the iced sweet tea though. It wasn’t great.

Came here for breakfast. First time we ever tried this place! I liked it the moment I walked in and felt welcome! We were seated straight away! Coffee served hot and fresh. Good start!!! I order the lighter breakfast with eggs, bacon, toast and fruit. The food took a while to come but that was ok, I was in no rush and it was nice and warm in there and the cool pictures and artifacts all around kept me busy! Food arrives. My only gripe was my bacon had all black fat from the frying pan all over it like it was fried in old fat so I didn’t eat this. My toast was soggy and I had asked for dry toast but I decided not to say anything since the waitress was already having a bad day with a customer on another table who was complaining that the food was not how he ordered it. I don’t blame the waitress but I do believe the kitchen staff need to pay more attention. Overall the food was mediocre but I like the staff, they are all homely and friendly and I did enjoy my experience here but kitchen staff need to listen. I’d come back yes!

If you’re looking to escape the bland look, feel and the taste of generic plates from chain restaurants, this place is a terrific option for good, authentic old west style dishes. The décor is a throwback to the days of old but charming, highlighting the way of life back in the 1800’s with actual photos and souvenirs dating back to the beginnings of Hayward and surrounding areas. Being a history buff, this was right up my alley. Now, let’s get back to the food. I really love the chicken parmesan and the various steaks and burgers they offer. The staff is very friendly and the service has been consistently great. I highly recommend They Hayward Ranch if you’re looking for good food, great personalities and a glimpse into our history.

You’d think it’s a cute tavern like place out in the country, but slowly realize it’s just a cluttered mess. Tables aren’t laid out well, causing problems for waiters/waitresses to take orders and deliver food/drinks. Waiter was decently nice but didn’t smile through the whole visit. The Ranch Fettuccine with prawns and was very disappointing. I found noodles that were uncooked and stuck together, and the whole dish just had an overwhelming fish taste as if they had boiled the noodles and prawns together or something. Not the worst thing ever, but also not the best. My sister had the country fried steak which was tough to cut and chew, and accompanied by undercooked peas. The best item ordered was a salad, how sad. A few other meals were ordered by my group but an overall dislike of the place settled in. Probably won’t be returning.

I stood and waited to be seated for breakfast. I had to go into the back and found the waitresses on their cell phones. The eggs were So overcooked, I thought of sending them to the Sharks to use for hockey pucks. The onions and peppers in the country fries were burnt. Not only was the cook having a bad morning it seems. the waitresses took no care to see that the food was going out burnt nor did either of them stop by the table to ask me. Too many other places to spend my dining dollar.

I love this place and go here every time I’m in Hayward, either for breakfast or dinner. What can I say about The Ranch that even conveys my love for this place. Its just the best place to come for some down home, authentic, delicious tasting food. I have NEVER once not loved the food I ate. I wish I could eat here all the time except I live in Sacramento. The service is also amazing, the servers always make you feel important.

That’s right. 5. The Hayward Ranch has been around forever. They have never compromised their style. The staff and well drinks haven’t changed in 40 years. I love it.

I expected a lot of this place, especially since it’s where my parents got engaged at. My dad kept saying how it was such a great place back in the day. I was mildly disappointed, potatoes tasted like the boxed kind and the dish was a bit cold. But it was cheap, and the staff were really friendly.

Strapped for time, found a place nearby. I feel bad giving two stars since the waitress was so friendly. Nonetheless, here’s the lowdown: — free white bread: this was actually good(crusty) and served slightly warm — house salad: looked a little sad(bagged for sure) and the balsamic vinegar bottle was pretty sticky — bbq chicken sandwich: grilled chicken breast was pretty dry and tasted overlooked. Bbq sauce was too thick and sweet, and really just overpowered all my taste buds. Served on burger bun($ 10.95) Overall, it’s a mom and pop place catering more toward locals. More of a dive bar than a restaurant For the price, would’ve preferred something a lot more simple and healthy, but the service was super friendly.

5 stars for this classic Hayward dive! And no, I am not on crack(ok maybe occasionally on bender weekends). I just have an affinity for no frills, old school fare. The fiver is solely based on a specific dining experience. I don’t know what breakfast is like here, nor would I really like to venture too far into their menu. But their Prime Rib Dinner at $ 21 is solidly legit. Not in a Zagat rating kind of way, but in a lumberjack kind of way. Catch my drift? First the beef is USDA choice grade. That is a proper start. Anything less would not be worth the indulgent calories. They slow roast it fine. It is well seasoned. Au jus and horseradish are plentiful. And the cut is unbelievably generous, definitely more than what the menu labels but this lumberjack ain’t complaining. Trust me. The pre-salad is a basic iceburg version, and for diners like this, that’s fine by me. For a side, I choose spaghetti over potato cuz where else are we going to find this combo. And the spaghetti sauce is not too schnabby either, thin but with flavor and hunks of ground meat. Lots of steamed veggies that hasn’t wilted in a steam table, round out the meat fest. This is the king of roast beef meals IMHO. The service is really nice, call drinks are $ 6, love the divey/western décor, I just fit like a glove in this place. If ever I felt deserving enough for legit gargantuan prime rib meal, this will be it in the East Bay. Believe you-me, pardner, when pictures of Johnny Cash and John Wayne glance at you from the walls, you know it is validated!

Ok, so I pass this place every day, and I have been very curious. My sister and I were looking for a place to watch the game and have dinner so I figured we might as well try somewhen new. When we first walked into the Ranch, I noticed that the bar and dinner area was separate, no biggie. We decided to eat in the dinner area first and then head over and watch the game. When our waitress approached us, she smiled and was friendly, but it seemed like she was rushing us to order. I would totally understand if the place was full, but it was empty, wth. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan with salad and baked potato. When the salad came I was disappointed because it was a Caesar salad overly drenched in ranch dressing, and it had garbanzo beans, eww who puts that in a Ceaser salad. My Chicken Parmesan can out, and it was delicious it was a little tender, but the flavor was there. My baked potato only had butter in it, so I asked the waitress to bring sour cream, bacon bits, and all that good stuff. Here is where I got a little weirded out, she brought us a standing try that had sour cream, bacon bits, and onion. I didn’t like it because it seems it was moved from table to table, and I imagined a kid licking the spoon and putting it back in sour cream. All the doodads on the wall were cool, but that’s about it. 2 stars for the Chicken Parmesan!
