Stopped by on our way home from a trip based on other Unilocal reviews. We got the brisket sandwiches and baby back ribs. Everything was delicious and the owner was awesome. He let us taste a bit if wanted to try before we ordered.

Love it. Ribs and pulled pork were on point, and the queso Mac was amazing. Owner was friendly and offered samples as we decided on sides. Forget those folks who subtract stars for its sparse décor — come here for the quality of the food and a reasonable price. Two heaping piles of meat and a side for $ 12? This place is worth checking out.

I have to give this place 5 stars, not just for the food, but because the gentleman working was the kindest, friendliest man I’ve encountered in a long time. Our family came in and placed an order to go, a huge order for 6 hungry people. He was patient as we were deciding what to order and let us sample anything we wanted. The brisket was to die for, ribs were great, I loved the vinegar based slaw, and the collards and baked beans were delicious. He even makes two homemade bbq sauces and gave us containers to fill up and take home and supplied us with plates, napkins, utensils, etc. What great customer service! Highly recommended!!!

Excellent brisket and pulled pork– nice depth to it and excellent sauce. Generous portion but he could use some marketing.
First off the place is as drab as could be and its basic cafeteria style. Beans are in a crockpot and meat is in stereo powered trays. The meat is worth the visit– Cole slaw is plain and cut kind of thick, my husband liked his beans– the meat is the whole thing here.

Fantastic brisket, great homey ma & pa atmosphere. The mac & queso is a nice kicky twist on a classic and the slaw is like a fresh cabbage salad with vinegarette.

Pulled off the highway on the drive from NY to FL. Great place! Friendly service, clean restaurant and bathrooms, and the meat and sides were delicious. We especially liked the ribs and pulled pork. We’ll be back!

Delicious! It’s a no frills kind of place as it breaks into the local food scene, but the food is on point! I had the brisket and queso mac and cheese and loved both! The brisket had a nice crisp on the outside and the meat was juicy and tender inside. The sauce complimented the brisket very well. It was nice to find a bbq place that did the meat AND the sauces just right! I’m a regular at BBQ places and this place is at the top of my list. I can’t wait to try the ribs and the pork!
The skinny.. the place is kind of lacking in décor, but clean! I’ll choose clean every time. You order at the service counter, get your tray of food, and sit down at the plain tables. The sauces are at the counter. You eat the delicious food (even BETTER) and leave. The price is mid range, paid about $ 15 for 1 meat, side, and soda.
Suggestions for business. Add some basic décor to warm it up a bit. Consider fountain drinks if affordable overall. Expand drink selection to include a few more options (I like Dr. Pepper LOL). A little more signage or window paint. Some shopping center advertising to help the word of mouth. Keep making the same delicious food!!!

We were driving through and saw this place on Unilocal… decided to stop and give it a shot to satisfy my wife’s BBQ fix. We found out they’ve only been open about 6 months. We walked in and met Blaine, the owner, who was incredibly friendly and helpful!
The food was incredible… we had the pulled pork, beef brisket, and burnt ends. The meats were juicy and delicious, the oak smoked flavor permeated throughout, and the Carolina vinegar based sauce was perfect! We had a side of the spicy vinegar Carolina slaw — also delicious! Highly recommend, and we will definitely be back! This is a welcome addition to Harrisonburg!

Probably the only place for bbq food in this place. The guy there is fun to talk to, and his food is good. They can use some new look but either ways it is good.

We got there at the end of the day so we missed out on the ribs but the brisket was very good. I appreciate that I was a given a sample of it as well as the sauces before I took my to go order. Very good experience overall.

While I certainly am not a BBQ expert, I do love a good BBQ and have now eaten here a few times. The place itself is very stripped down — minimalist but very functional. Everything is incredibly tasty… the beans outstanding. I’ve typically asked for a sampler platter (which is not on the menu, but he has always been very willing to do one) of pulled pork, brisket and ribs. This guy cares about BBQ and knows what he’s doing… the results are delightful!

Love this place! The Queso Mac and cheese is so good.
I’ve had his food at the farmers market for a while now and I’m glad to see that he’s opened a restaurant.

Ate at South Fork BBQ on 10÷04÷15. My husband and I both had the Pulled Pork Platter and the Spicy Cole Slaw. The food was FABULOUS! We have eaten all over the Southeast, and frequently will do a «BBQ trail» on a trip. This is absolutely the BEST Pulled Pork I have ever eaten, hands down! Small, extremely plain restaurant, but when you food this well, no one should care. Chef Blaine is truly a magnificent Pit Master!

Wow. This place is an unexpexted gem. South Fork Barbeque has an understated décor and simple presentation which hides the complex flavors of this kick butt, old school barbeque. Gluten free celiac diners will appreciate that the main event food is gluten free. The cornbread and sandwitch bread are the only items with gluten, according to the owner. My wife has celiac and she felt fine after eating the beef brisket and pulled pork.

Had the pulled pork plate and the ribs… It was delicious… Ribs were tender. The beans were soooooo good! Will definitely come back if in the area

Had the pulled pork and it was excellent. I was hesitant because the place isn’t much to look at and no one else was there. Don’t let that fool you. This place has seriously great BBQ. The pork was smokey, juicy with a little acidity which is what you want from BBQ in this region. The cornbread was dry and the slaw was just ok but that pork sandwich was soooo good.

If I could I would give this spot 10 stars. I was actually referred to this restaurant by highly opinionated person (Food wise) who owns a barbeque stand. I think that says a lot in itself. We walked in expecting decent barbeque, and what we got was amazing. The owner was the coolest guy, and just listening to him talk about the preparation of his food, you could tell that he was passionate about the art of Barbeque. After our initial visit we actually came back later that same day to take some back home. He was kind enough to vacuum pack 2 lbs or brisket for us, and even said he had been thinking of maybe shipping the meat upon request. I will definitely be checking back to see if that ever comes to fruition. If your a fan of perfectly smoked brisket, and ribs then this is the spot. #JoeFromMaryland

Ate here on Thursday did not know they was open yet till I drove by. I ordered the beef brisket platter with 2 sides. Have to say worst Barbque I have ever had in my life, it was cold and tough as shoe leather, not warm at all and the cornbread was hard as a rock. When you think brisket you think hot and juicy… Worst 16 I think I ever spent.

The meat is lean, tender and tasty! Far better than I expected. The sandwich was so great I can ignore the fact that the sides were not special. My wife is related to the famous Pete’s BBQ In eastern N.C. She thinks this is better! Certainly give it a try!

Blaine has something good going on. My wife and i shared our pulled pork and brisket, both were very good. We walked out of there full for $ 20. The slaw is spicy and fresh. We will definitely be back.
