THE perfect college student eatery. Extremely affordable. Not healthy mind you but affordable.
The place gets pretty loud at times specifically later at night so if that is an issue get that food to go.
We bring the teens here in the regular for the shakes alone. The selection is enormous and the prices can’t be beat.
The combo platter is the best buy if your hungry and typically more than I can finish but the guys do just fine. I typically get the quesadilla and corn dog with fries and a sweet tea. Yes not healthy so diet conscious people are not encouraged lol
So yes fast food and yes not healthy but yes cheap. Don’t expect more than that and you’ll be fine.

Driving into harrisonburg on our way to Massanutten, and my lady goes Cook out! Next thing I knew we were in the parking lot, and getting out of the car. I walk and could quickly see I was dealing with BBQ and Burgers. Thats right up my alley, and the prices are crazy low. I ended up ordering a cook out tray, and before i could fill up my drink all the way it was done! The big double burger was kind of small, but it was good. the hush puppies were decent, and I like the fries a lot. I wasn’t extremely hungry so it hit the spot, and the prices are so low i could have easily gotten another one and been full. The service was good, and most importanlty fast. I would definitely go back. The check in is set about 10 miles off from the actual location, so you wont be able to do it when you get there, and I was to lazy to adjust it. Wish they had these in Maryland, because I hate 5 guys!

The only time we get to eat here is when we are on vacation in Virginia because we don’t have one in our area. The food is good. Fast and accurate staff and you get a lot of food for a little bit of money… it’s usually very crowded in here when we go. They do need to pay a little bit more attention to cleaning… especially the bathrooms, as from our most recent visit, the women’s bathroom needed a little bit of cleaning but according to my husband the men’s bathroom was filthy. We definitely will go back!

I said at the restaurant «this is the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced». I’m glad to know I’m not the only one after reading these reviews.
We got 2 shakes. One came out though it wasn’t stated which one and both were similar. Another shake came out and the girl said «I don’t know the order number.» I asked her what the shake was and she got an attitude while not answering the question. I asked her again as someone else was waiting on a shake as well behind us. Well, it wasn’t mine. I did get my shake a couple minutes later and there was ice cream going all down the side of it. On top of that, later when we got home we found there was a hole in the cup. I’m not sure whether or not it was intentional, but all I wanted to know was if that was my milkshake or not. I think that doesn’t warrant an attitude.
However, both milkshakes were fine. I doubt the same employees will be there the next time we roll through, but it is certainly worth noting.

The place looks like a log cabin from the inside and has a nice outdoorsy feel to it. They even have picnic styled benches to sit on inside. The prices is ridiculously cheap. And what you get with that is worth every bit. It’s not gourmet, but it’s still delicious. You do get what you pay for. So don’t expect too much. Along with hush puppies, wraps, chicken tenders, and many more food options they also have Cheerwine, floats, and tons of milkshake flavors.

It’s always tough to review a Cook Out. Sure, there’s a tremendous amount of value here, probably the best in the industry. It’s a favorite place for JMU students who can eat late and get a ton of food for little money. And, yes, it’s way, way better than Wendy’s, McDonald’s and some of the other nearby chains, but it’s still low grade fast food. If that’s what you’re in the mood for, this is your spot: a place where mass amount of burgers, corn dogs, french fries and chicken strips can be consumed for not too much money. You’ll get that food fast and be in the presence of many other bargain seekers, in a fun, upbeat atmosphere that will make you never walk through a McDonald’s again, but why would you do that anyway.

Well at least the food is cheap. Nothing spectacular it’s all frozen prepackaged food. I’m sure you could do at home and with a little effort do it better. People rave about their milkshakes but the few time I gotten them they were little more than soft-​serve.

Certainly not the best barbecue I’ve ever eaten but very tasty! My wife thinks the burgers are better than five guys. I lean toward the barbecues in Eastern North Carolina, but as I say, these BBQs can satisfy that urge when you’re not in Eastern North Carolina.

Worth stopping for. We had the milkshakes, Cheerwine and corn dog. Everything was great: and I love the corn dog. This chain started in North Carolina — very popular I know in the Charolotte NC area — and has recently crossed into Harrisonburg VA etc.
This is definitely a strong alternative to the Golden Arches-BK-Wendy’s trio. Strong local flavor with college banners on the walls. Friendly staff. 40+ shakes is definitely worth checking out. Viva Cook Out.

Ew ew and more ew. Been here twice will not be returning. I got the pulled pork sandwich the bun was soggy and fell apart as I was trying to eat it. Went through the drive thru next time got a small burger. Over cooked, flavorless and there was more mayo than meat it seemed. So disgusting.

I’m a fan predominantly for their milkshakes. OMG are they good. I mean, they are GOOD!!!
Also, try the Cheerwine. It’s a deep south drink from the Nashville area that makes me nostalgic.
Like the other reviews say: inexpensive food, not über-​high quality. The Corndogs are pretty good. Burger was definitely overcooked.
Worth it for the milkshakes alone!

The milkshakes are the only decent thing on the menu. This place has the novel idea of offering items like corn dogs, chicken nuggets, and quesadillas as side items. The only problem is that the food is terrible. I mean worse than school cafeteria bad. The beef on the burger was burnt so badly that I could have bounced it off the table. I’ve made better chicken nuggets in my toaster oven at home. The food is dirt cheap, but I’d rather go to McDonalds or Wendy’s and order from the value menu. Unless you are stoned or drunk, you might seriously regret eating here.

If you’re in the mood for mediocre food at rock-​bottom prices, this is the place for you! Open late, restrooms are clean, and it’s close to the interstate, making it ideal for a quick pit stop.
Inexplicably good shakes; they’re the one item of food I can recommend without reservation.

I am obsessed with these milkshakes. the menu may seem daunting because of the millions of choices, but you can customize any of them to what you want. My personal favorite: Hershey’s chocolate with caramel swirl and snickers pieces.
