I was incredibly disappointed with my experience here the other day. I ordered a dish that was recommended by an article about vegetarian dishes in the area. It was okay, not great, but then I realized it had egg in it even though the menu didn’t state that, though it listed egg for many of the other dishes. What bothered me more was there was a piece of chicken in it, too. It is gross to think how that wound up in my meal and makes me wonder how careless they are with other things. I won’t be returning, and if you have dietary restrictions, you may want to check everything thoroughly.

Really bad service and staff with a passive aggressive attitude. Tried to bring a large party on Saturday night, fairly early(couldn’t make a reservation because it was spontaneous we were getting together), the waitress refused to seat us or even give us a wait time. She said she didn’t want to «overwhelm» the staff. On a Saturday night, there is no excuse for not having enough staff. The hostess’ passive aggressive attitude really rubbed us the wrong way and we will no longer be going there. It’s a shame because they’re food isn’t bad as we’ve been there before.

Absolutely disgusting!!! The orange chicken was so dry it turned into jerky and tasted fishy. The volcano sushi roll that was supposedly lightly fried was deep fried, dry and flavorless. Spicy scallops were raw. The chicken curry was a reheated disaster that was bland. The«real» California roll had fishy taste. The lettuce wraps looked like and tasted like a dehydrated chicken meal! The pot stickers where deep fried and filled with fry oil! Horrible experience would not recommend to anybody! I will never go back even if it’s free!!!

I will admit it, I was disappointed in Beyond early on, but I’ve recently had the opportunity to revisit it a few times and have actually really enjoyed the experience! They’ve continued to update and refine their menu, and have lots of delicious options at a variety of price points. They also have one of the better happy hours in town, and the bar area is just a fun place to be and hang out. It helps that the staff seems to enjoy their jobs and are generally super pleasant and fun!

Great staff, friendly atmosphere. Seems like a nice local tapas and sushi bar to hang out on the weekend or to grab a quick meal. I was seated promptly, served quickly and I thoroughly enjoy my meal and experience. Not sure what all the bad ratings were for because I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the area.

This was my first time at Beyond and I was very disappointed. I ordered the Spicy Tuna roll and Bobby roll which had salmon and shrimp tempura. The Bobby roll tasted weird and realized the shrimp was frost bit. It was gross. I told the waitress and I still had to pay $ 25 for these two rolls. It was NOT worth it.

I ate here for lunch on recommendation from someone who lives in the area. I was honestly not impressed with anything anyone ordered. I had the spicy thai fried rice with chicken. There were a bunch of huge pieces of basil in it that I had to pick out. The miso soup was alright. My coworkers had sushi and sashimi, none of which was very good.

I love Beyond. I go there almost every time I go to Harrisonburg. You must order the pineapple cream cheese wontons. I get them as an appetizer every time I go. I like to try new entrees every time I go, but I have never met anything I didn’t like at Beyond. Long story short– Go to Beyond. Get a drink. Get cream cheese wontons. Pick anything from the menu. Smile.

I was not happy with the chicken lettuce wrap. I’m not sure what the name was but the sushi with salmon and baked mayonnaise was not to my friends liking either.

It tries to be better than it is. The sushi and sushimi portions are incorrect and the dishes are poorly executed. The quality is really hit-or-miss and it’s hard to recommend this place across the board.

It was really good in 2011, but something must have changed. The service is nice. But the food is messy and not great. Don’t get the sushi… One star is for the waiter we had. The other is for the fried banana and coconut ice cream… Get it. I don’t care if you’re on a diet. Eat it.

For Sushi in the boondocks it’s about as good as you can get. If this place was near civilization it wouldn’t last long but because the sushi scene is so dismal it’s the best option. Which isn’t saying much

Nice atmosphere. Good service. Lots of sushi options. It was all very good. Will be going back next time I’m in Harrisonburg wanting sushi.

I have been looking for a decent place to get Asian food in town. Beyond is the best I have had so far. A couple classmates introduced me to Beyond earlier this week. They both ordered salads and sushi dishes. I had orange chicken. The orange chicken was a good sized portion(I made it into two meals) including rice and a lot of vegetables. It was tasty and I will go back. I am not a fan of sushi but my classmates liked their dishes. They went to JMU for both undergrad and now, graduate school. I think the fact that they have been returning for years a good testimony in itself. They said that this is the best sushi in town. The services was good. It was spectacular but the server was present and available. I loved the décor! It was very cool — an artsy and industrial feel. I really liked it.

The restaurant has a chic, modern feel. We stumbled upon the restaurant when returning our son to JMU. The menu was creative and extremely reasonable. The lunch special included Beef Phở which was delicious and plentiful. The chicken teriyaki, drunken noodles and fish tacos were all excellent. The dishes came with the best hot and sour soup we had ever had including lots of fresh mushrooms. The restaurant was a gem in a rather bleak choice of Harrisonburg restaurants. We made reservations for parent’s weekend on the spot! Great service and prices were extremely(as mentioned above!!) also!

Gordon Ramsay would have a field day with this place. Even after reading the reviews and preparing myself, I was pretty disappointed. We had a group of 7, but got there pretty early, and had a reservation, so the place wasn’t even that busy yet. The prices are reasonable for Harrisonburg, but the food was all middling. Not terrible, but definitely not anything to write home about. I wouldn’t seek it out again. It doesn’t seem like it’s too hard to make decent Asian fusion food(I’ve had pretty good Asian food all over the country), but they fall short. Additionally, the restaurant seems to have a bit of a personality crisis. They have standard Asian fusion menu items — sushi, curry, noodle dishes, but then they also have American fare, like a Cobb salad. When I see a menu like that, it says to me that the restaurant doesn’t excel at anything, and doesn’t know what it’s own vibe is. The service from the waitstaff was standard. Not terrible, but again, not exceptional. The worst part of the night, though(which dropped it from 3 to 2 stars) was that about half the table ordered hot food from the kitchen, and about half ordered sushi — well, the hot food came out, and then the sushi took almost another ½ hour to show up! We had to seek out the waiter to ask what was going on — we were not offered an explanation or apology, except for the server to say that the«two kitchens don’t talk to each other». Um, really? If you’re going to have to service stations, they’ve got to talk to each other. As we were leaving, they tried to offer us a coupon for our next visit, but we assured them we would not be back.

I don’t think this place is as bad as people say. Their red chicken curry is delicious. It’s very comparable to any high end Thai restaurant in the DC area. Their coconut shrimp is crunchy, big, and comes with two dipping sauces. It is a great appetizer to order. Do you need a desert recommendation? Try their fried bananas with ice cream. Do I even need to describe this? That would be my perfect meal at Beyond. When we came here, it happened to be restaurant week. So we had the coconut shrimp and the cobb salad. The cobb salad was very dry and i wasn’t that impressed at all. For the entrée we had the seared tuna and the steak. The seared tuna wasn’t that bad, but the sides seemed kind of lacking. They definitely overcooked the steak too and it was very dry. Pad Thai was mediocre as well. Good sized portion, but not the best. Cheesecake and fried banana for dessert and the fried banana was definitely better. Kind of disappointed for the $ 30 restaurant week menu, but I would come back for their red curry chicken.

MSG is really bad for you — Google it. The people cooking at Beyond should google it, and then learn to cook. The food at Beyond is Beyond terrible.

This place is the«fancier» version of Taste of Thai. And it holds true to that good ol’ Taste of Thai standard. Here’s a hint, folks — if you’re claiming to serve food that is labeled ANY of the following — «authentic», «fresh», «gourmet», etc. …then you do NOT need to pile on the MSG. In fact, MSG should be nowhere near your food if it’s truly«fresh» and«authentic». What we have here is a nicely designed building that houses the same bad pseudo-Thai food as T.O.T. Stay away, unless you want to shell out a lot of cash for food that makes you feel bad later…

It looks a lot more mod in here than you’d expect from Harrisonburg. They need more staff – you shouldn’t go long stretches without water when you’re eating spicy food(spicy scallops, 3.5; as an aside, the not spicy dumplings were also a 3.5). Then again, I’m not sure if the waiter was busy or just absentminded, since he forgot about my beer order when the restaurant was empty. That said, we lingered for over an hour afterwards, and he kept bringing water when we weren’t eating. Dessert was tasty but not particularly memorable(chocolate trio and the white chocolate crème brûlée – both solid 3 stars).
