We have always loved BC for several reasons: Kid friendly staff, good beer, great setting and tasty small portion items. But I admit they seem to have gotten a tad lazy lately. Specifically, the menu has never changed in years, the operations seems hectic and confusing at times like it just opened and finally the food seems bland and doesn’t have the zip it used to have. Please BCWAKEUP! Reboot or you will not survive. Just sayin’.

The food was really good, my fiancé and I shared the firecracker shrimp which was AMAZING! We both ordered the shrimp burger which was different and delicious, the lemon aioli made the burger! The place itself is quite small and the glasses were dirty

Best thing was the firecracker shrimp. Saw someone eating it as I walked in. And read reviews on it. Waiter was really nice and friendly. Shrimp burger was different, but in a good way. The drawback was lipstick on a water glass. Beer glass looked dirty too.

I honestly can’t figure out the negative reviews that have come before this one. We travel 45 minutes for this place. And we do it 3 – 4 times per year. The appetizers are outstanding: especially the Korean chicken wings with mustard sauce and the bbq ribs. Both are perfect. The service is totally fine. Young kids — not career waiters. If you don’t like that sort of thing, then this place won’t be for you. And you should take a look at yourself in the mirror. I mean, come on: you’re not the queen of England. We usually go for lunch(as opposed to dinner). Couldn’t recommend this place more fervently.

Swaying on the docks of the harbor in Greenport, NY sits Blue Canoe, a nautical escape into the world of the song«Brandy(You’re A Fine Girl).» I was in Greenport with a group of ladies for a celebratory bachelorette weekend. After enjoying several bottles of wine and a wheel or two of cheese, we decided we needed a meal to offset the hours of wine and cheese behind us and ahead of us. We attempted to go to another restaurant before we knew Blue Canoe existed, but our group of 16 frightened the hostess and all of the patrons inside. Everyone behind the front wall of windows ogled at us on the sidewalk from their tables inside as if 15 well-dressed, beautiful women and one bride-to-be(party veil, sash and all) were an obscure sight in a town full of wineries in the Hamptons. After being denied entry there, we frantically Unilocaled for another restaurant. We called Blue Canoe and excitedly they told us to come on over. We were seated in the back area of the restaurant, a dining area that opens to the outdoor bar on the deck. Because it was chilly, the manager set up three state-of-the-art fiery heating lamps that heated us up so well that we asked for two of them to be turned off. The hostess and waiter who tended to our table throughout the evening were friendly and quick to recommend the best dishes on the menu. The menu is lengthy and full of gems. I got the California chicken club with fries, both of which were delicious, ESPECIALLY the fries. I highly recommend the Blue Canoe over any restaurant in Greenport, and if you happen to be in a group of 16 woman celebrating an upcoming marriage, I can tell you with absolute certainty that the Blue Canoe will be the perfect place for you.

Here’s what irks me about these places out east… I truly feel like, they don’t HAVE to be good. There are so few options and people need to eat… so they will pay $ 32 for a TERRIBLE Lobster Mac and Cheese. Just because the restaurant is beautiful and offers waterside seating, doesn’t mean you get to slack on the food! Lobster Mac– their«signature dish». There was NO flavor. NONE. You shouldn’t be adding salt to lobstah. Nor was there any cheese. It was rubbery lobster on plain noodles. Thai Mussels– again… no. Then they had the nerve to tell us dipping bread was an extra $ 3. Btw– we got ONE ciabatta roll. Fish & Chips– I was told this was actually pretty tasty. Obviously come here because its beautiful, and right near the Jitney/LIRR. But don’t expect a great meal. Stick to apps and wine.

The ambiance and waitress were about the only good aspect of the dinner. Our party of started with cocktails… at $ 13 each, they tasted like they were mixed by someone who was clueless about how to mix such drinks. They were terrible. We ordered a starter of chicken cragglers, which are deep fried chicken skins… our server cautioned us that they had no meat, which was fine. The problem was they had zero seasoning… nothing…ziltch…no pop, not even salt. Just deep fried skins. It went downhill from there. A simple house salad offered one, and only one dressing… it was not terrible, a ginger flavored vinagerette, but it was too sparse… leaving a very dry salad… they should let you dress your own salad. All other dishes… were uninspired, and very mediocre at best… and that is putting it nicely. If you like mediocre, over priced food, and you don’t know or care about what constitutes a good cocktail at Manhattan prices, this place is perfect. If not, you have been warned.

Appetizers were very good. I had the Pork spring rolls and we also got an order of sushi which had very good tuna in it. For the main course we ordered pulled pork, miso glazed cod, Thai mussels, and fish fry. The miso glazed cod was a little over cooked, the glaze turned to charcoal in some places. The waitress was super helpful in explaining the dish and offering a replacement. I declined and gave it a chance. The rest of the fish was cooked perfect. The restaurant took off one of our appetizers as a consolation which was really unnecessary since I ate most of the fish. The gesture was huge, I like to see a business that stands behind the product they deliver and will offer alternatives. I would come here again

I would probably give Blue Canoe 3.5 stars, but they’re definitely not 4 star worthy. There seems to be alot of negative reviews about the staff and while I agree that they all appear young, the few that tended our table were very friendly and overall competent and professional. The ambiance may be nicer during the day. We dined on the deck at night and while we were by the water, we really couldnt see the water. The live band(Fri and Sat only) was very enjoyable. There are two displays of fire on stone in the wait area, which makes it a nice area to also have drinks. It gets very chilly here at night, even in August. The food was either hit or miss and I agree with the other reviews that the dishes are overpriced for what it is. I’d strongly suggest staying away from anything on the menu with an asian influence other than the Korean chicken wings which while werent authentic Korean chicken wings, were still pretty tasty. The steak was overcooked and the mushroom relish just wasted a good piece of meat. The Ahi Tuna appetizer was very good but note that its a very small portion. The slab of ribs were juicy. My lobster tails were way overcooked. The cocktails were decent but rather weak, even the straight up martinis. Overall not a bad experience. If you’re a regular and know which items to stick with and which ones to stay away from, it’s a nice restaurant to enjoy a casual meal by the water…

I came out to Greenport to see the Monday night live music and afterwards, my date and I chose the eat at Blue Canoe because of its fantastic bay views and convenient location. What a great whim! The food was fantastic! My date and I split the firecracker shrimp as an appetizer, the vegetarian bolognese and the rack of ribs as entrees, and the brookie for dessert. All were fantastic! I can’t stop thinking about the firecracker shrimp. I think that they were so named because crack must be one of the actual ingredients. So good. I hope I pass my drug test next week. The service was wonderful, too. My waitress was very sweet and knowledgeable. She made several recommendations, including a very important one about the bolognese. Since neither my date nor I are vegan, she suggested getting the creamy version of the pasta, and it was sublime. She also recommended the brookie as a dessert and that was heavenly. Thanks Chelsea! I’d also like to note that the brunette manager working that night was phenomenal. She came over to personally apologize when a nearby table started applying noxious bug spray while we were eating and she even stood in the path of the spray so it wouldn’t get on our food. We were having our ribs at that time, and I noticed that the rack I was eating wasn’t the only one worth admiring ;) I had a terrific experience at Blue Canoe and will definitely be coming back!

I really do not like to be mean in reviews, but I truly think this needs to be out there! There were 3 of us who dined on Saturday night. We just bought a house in Greenport, and see Blue Canoe every time we walk into town. Decided to try it. First of all, NOT the restaurants fault, a couple who sat by us brought their 2 Husky’s. Now I LOVE dogs, I have 2 myself. but the dogs were shedding, and they literally took a fur ball and placed it on the table. I was sick to my stomach. As I said, NOT the restaurants fault. The sushi was great, we had the tiger shrimp and maki sushi rolls. Both were so good, and so fresh. Everything was down hill from there. We ordered the lobster roll, and 2 lobster tails. The lobster roll was good, just very small, and overpriced. You can get a bigger, better, lobster roll at other places on the North Fork for half the price. The lobster tails were practically inedible. One of us tried to eat it, I could not. They were brown, chewy, salty, and rubbery. Sent them back. Staff was very very nice about it. Ordered the teriyaki chicken, and the miso cod. I ate my chicken because it was edible. It was not good. It was very very salty, and honestly just not good at all. The Cod was burned on top, we literally pulled the char off of it. My friend did not eat her food. We paid total $ 180.00 for 3 meals we did not enjoy at all. The staff is so very very nice, and accommodating so I do want that to be known. However the food is overpriced, and not very good. The food does not seem fresh at all. What I recommend it sitting at the bar, under the Gazebo, having drinks and appetizers, because the meals, and we tried 4 total, were all not very good at all. I honestly never complain because I feel bad, but this food was salty, rubbery, and not fresh. I felt validated when a woman near me also ordered the lobster tail, also could not cut her lobster tail, and called the manager over to let her know that it was not very good at all. Maybe it was an off night I do not know. Of course we will go back to sit at the bar, but that is it.

The firecracker shrimp are amazing, as are the fries. The location is beautiful but the menu is pricey for a relatively casual place and small portions. I left hungry, but not wanting to spend more for another tiny plate.

The staff/service was beyond bad. 1) the staff criticized customers, calling them profane and derogatory names in front of me at the bathroom. 2) they overcharged for our food. 3) they gave us attitude when we had the bill fixed(overcharging). 4) when we asked for extra meat/portion they brought a small appetizer’s size dish. The only reason they’re getting 2 stars is the appetizer food we did get was tasty. However, the entrée food is not worth the asking price, and no amount or quality of food can make up for that much of a bad service experience.

We used to love this place and come here once per week. Came back this year and the prices are through the roof. What do they think? A burger for $ 22, teriyaki chicken for $ 25. Most of the entrees are over $ 30. The food was always good enough, but definitely not worth these prices.

Pros= excellent ocean view from the deck; friendly waitstaff Cons= Food was very mediocre. I got the Grilled Atlantic Mahi Sandwich, which wasn’t bad… the sauce was tasty, but didn’t blow me away. My boyfriend ordered the California Smoked Chicken«Club,» which was deli sliced meat with two miniature scraps of bacon and about half of a tomato. Wildly disappointing. We were also miffed to pay extra for a side of fries when they seemed like they came straight from the freezer section of the grocery store. Overall– Great location, but very overpriced for such meh food.

I only gave this restaurant 2 stars because the food I ordered was decent and the menu was varied and original. However, the service I received a few days ago was awful. It took 40 minutes to receive our food and no reassurance or hospitality was provided to us during our wait. Drinks were empty for most of it. In addition, the restaurant isn’t flexible with alternative sides or substitutions. We were charged an entire other meal for what should’ve been the price of a side. Won’t be coming back.

Food is really good; menu not varied but tasty. Atmo easy going. Location terrific. Chowder excellent! Great staff. $ 4 extra for tiny amt of bread from 1 ciabatta shocking. [Only restaurant I know on North Fork that charges for bread.]

I love vine street and finally made it to blue canoe on a Sunday night in November. Not a fan of BBQ and thus didn’t really like the menu at all. Way way overpriced for the casual greenport menu. Expensive wine list. Server was attentive and trying hard but quite inexperienced. Overall I was underwhelmed and unlikely to return. Definitely Better choices in greenport.

Waiter was knowledgeable. We ordered manatauk oysters and they were very good. Ordered a pink lady, cat juggler and two craft beers. all good. The ribs were solid and the mahi mahi burger was good. Overall would eat here again, great outdoor eating area with view of bay.
