The spicy mussels were terrible. Not enough flavor and too runny. The beef teriyaki bowl was mediocre… didn’t have enough meat to pair with the large bowl of rice. The rainbow roll was ok. The sunomono was terrible!!! Bland… I wish I took photos(was too hungry). Service was pleasant. I wouldn’t return though

Love coming into Oka! Such a wonderful and unique Japanese restaurant! Tonight I had the house special The Samurai which includes spicy crab and tempura avocado inside, topped with salmon, unagi and avocado. Delicious! A MUST whenever visiting Oka!

It was excellent! Food came out hot, fresh and tasty! We read all positive reviews and found same results. Service was on point and friendly. Good-sized portions. Ordered the Okamame– spicy edamame. It was perfect amount of spice, hot and fresh. Ordered cold tofu and it was served on ice and super fresh with a soy-mix sauce. Ordered grilled pot stickers. They were piping hot and not greasy. They only have one kids item which is basically a Bento Box with teriyaki chicken, cucumber roll, tempura, white rice. The beef teriyaki bowl was fresh and tasty but the meat was a bunch of grisel. It’s a small place with about 10 tables.

I don’t understand why my experience was the exact opposite as the rest of these reviews. I trust Unilocal wholeheartedly… this place is not four stars, it’s not even two stars, I’m just being generous cause I was having a good night. Upon my arrival every single table was dirty. Every single one. The server seriously pointed at a table and said«You can sit here, this table is the least dirty» Really Bee, the least dirty?! She was very nice but seemed like she had taken three orders in her life and had absolutely no idea what was on the menu and what the sushi chef was capable of making. I am very particular at restaurants and I try and take that into consideration when I rate these establishments because it isn’t their fault that I am a brat but this chick looked confused by my questions and requests. «Do you have cream cheese?» «I think.» «Um… Can you put it in a roll?» «Uhhhh, probably.» She found out for me that the cream cheese would be 50 cents extra. That’s fine. My love of cream cheese in sushi is worth 50 dollars extra. I tried to keep it simple cause I felt bad for her and I ordered a CA roll with cream cheese. FORTYFIVEMINUTESLATER my CA roll arrives. I promise you that this CA roll was premade, unrolled and a sliver of cream cheese was added. The size of cream cheese was smaller than one of the grains of old rice on the roll. It wasn’t good. I asked for low sodium soy sauce to cover the taste and she brought me a green lid but there is no way it was low sodium in that bottle. I have had better sushi from Albertsons. Whole Food seemed gourmet compared to this place. Then the two employees disappeared to the back for another THIRTY minutes. I had to go find them to get the check. Before leaving I went to the bathroom, which was a stupid idea. The bathroom wasn’t as gross as a porta-potty but it definitely hadn’t been cleaned in two weeks. I’m going to assume that I caught this place on a bad night because other Unilocalers rave about it.

Let’s face it, there’s no real authentic sushi places in America. Logistically, it would be near impossible to get the true experience because oceans divide us from Japan. However, Oka is a major hit in my books. The food, the sushi chefs, and the entire dinner experience was pretty above par in my eyes. If I were to recommend something from their menu, it would be their 2 pieces of unagi nigiri sushi. The reason it comes highly recommended is because, its one of the best I have ever tasted in America, let alone Fresno. The unagi had the fresh grilled taste, wasn’t generic like the other Japanese restaurants and it was lightly glazed with nitsumi a semi sweet-savory sauce that really complimented this freshly grilled fish. The only other place that makes unagi like this would be in Japan. The Chirashi bowl for $ 23 was a steal. The set meal comes with soup, salad, & vegetable tempura. The perfectly sliced sashimi placed on top of a lukewarm rice bowl was yellow tail, tuna, salmon and butter fish; the sashimi grade fish cuts tasted fresh here, however I must admit the freshness although great was not superior, because the tuna still had hints of fishiness to it. Im not saying it was not fresh, because I knew it was fresh, it wasn’t just perfect. I am Impress however to see the first female sushi chef in all of Fresno. You can’t eat at Oka and not have their tempura green tea ice cream, because this delicate, perfectly sinful desert cannot be missed. It has a crispy texture on the outside, yet a smooth solid ice cream on the inside that just melts in your mouth. The place itself is pretty small so going at peak times will probably result in a wait or sitting very close to your dining neighbors. This made it feel more like Japan sushi bars that I’ve seen highlighted in food and travel shows. Luckily, it wasn’t that bad on a Thursday early dinner and we had no trouble getting seated.

On our way back to LA from Yosemite my friends and I were craving sushi. We were a little skeptic because to us large city folks, we are use to heavily Unilocal reviewed restaurants. As we were zipping by on the 99, we passed by several sushi restaurants and we made an impromptu decision to go to this one because it had a decent amount of Unilocal reviews and people seemed to have enjoyed this place. Upon arrival we were asked to self-seat and with a party of 9 people we put together 24-person tables and 12-seater table. With only one waitress running the floor and 1 sushi chef, we were serviced relatively fast. First they came out with this spicy-sesame oil bean sprout that just hit the spot. It was perfectly flavored, the bean sprouts were crunchy and fresh, and it was a nice free appetizer that I quite enjoyed before we even ordered any food. Looking at the menu itself was a bit confusing. They had this section where they offered meals ranging from the price of $ 22.50 to $ 24.50 which included a salmon/tuna/albacore what have you plates. We asked the waitress what was included in the plates and she told us that it was only 2 pieces of sushi, 2 pieces of sashimi, and 1 basic salmon roll. My friend got it anyways and the portion sizes are really small. I do not recommend this. After she told us what was in the salmon plate, I quickly jumped on Unilocal to see if I should order anything else. After looking at someone’s post of the Rainbow Roll I decided to order that. The Rainbow Roll did not disappoint. It had a slight spice to it which was amazing. The fish to rice ratio was really good. My other friend got the Oka Special Roll which was a Rainbow Roll with an addition of something else, which was also very good. Overall this restaurant was a good stopping point for us on our way back to Los Angeles. I’ve had better sushi, but this restaurant definitely was pretty good. Just stay away from their over priced salmon plates and etc.

I love OKA. Sushi is always fresh and the quality is always consistent. This is the place I go to when I don’t want to be let down with sushi. I am a huge unagi, avocado, shrimp roll kind of person and their Anita roll is so deliciously flavorful! I am also a fan of their Gyoza, they are just the right texture. Not gooey or chewy as I have had them in other japanese restaurants. My significant other always orders the seafood udon and swears by this as well. I’m not one one to be impressed by noodles but even his udon bowls smell pretty incredible. More importantly, the staff is always friendly. They make us feel soo incredibly welcomed and comfortable.

The restaurant was clean and quite. The food tasted good and nicely arranged. The chef did a really good job especially on the baked oysters dish. I love the spicy and creamy sauce for the oysters. Also the chef cut the oyster into small pieces for me to eat it.

The salad and miso soup were EXCELLENT! Tasted like what Zippangu(now closed) used to serve. The salad dressing was THE best, I just wished it didn’t come in such a small bowl. I ordered the teriyaki salmon plate and it was excellent. The teriyaki sauce was delicious! My only complaint was they didn’t offer a fork so my rice got soggy and I couldn’t eat it right with my chopsticks. My sister ordered the seafood combo bowl and was expecting shrimp but it didn’t come with it. The seafood was salmon, mussels, and imitation crab meat. It was ok. Overall, it was a pretty good meal. Nothing too big that made me hate it. The price is good for the food you get.

The food was pretty good here, more so when there were only a handful of sushi places in Fresno(now there are like, three handfuls!). Its admittedly been a while since I stopped going there. It was because of the food but the service. 1 hour for a 2 piece order of baked mussels and the server at the time had a bad attitude. I hope things have changed here and will update the review if I ever give this place another try.(After I’ve hit the dozen new sushi places first)

Easily the best Sushi in town!!! Quality, Price, and Service are all unbeatable! The two sushi chefs/owners are sisters, Dawn and Pam, they always greet you with a smile and if you go in there more than once they will remember your names. My husband’s family has been going there regularly for more than 10 years so they remember more than our names, always asking us about work and family. We pretty much don’t even have to order anymore because they know what we want. The Jett Roll is a must! My husband loves the baked mussels. Try the Okamame(spicy edamame), pink godzilla, tempura shrimp and vegetables, a tall Sapporo … I could go on forever, we have never had anything bad here! We always leave miserably full but extremely happy.

I have been going to Oka for years — should have written this forever ago, but they are the BEST sushi restaurant I have ever experienced. I grew up in Fresno, but currently live in DC. Every time I visit family back home I always stop by Oka and they still remember me by name! They also remember what I like and don’t like and almost always have space for me at the sushi bar. Dawn and Pam are sushi chefsand owners and they are amazing. They really know their stuff. The fish is always fresh and the service is great. The restaurant is small and intimate. Also the rolls are twice as big as any other sushi place I have ever been to — a full meal for a small cost! Thank you ladies! You are the best! I miss your food already!

Really impressed! The food is really good and the prices are even better. Polly was our waitress and was so sweet. She was on top of everything. She made sure our drinks were full and our plates were cleaned after we were done with them. I recommend it :)

What a delightful sushi restaurant! Friendly, creative sushi chef listened to what sounded good to me and created a roll – on the spot! Small, intimate and very oriented toward local repeat business. Pam and Dawn were two of the best-looking sushi chefs, ever! I will definitely be back!

I am an avid sushi eater, and new to Fresno… So I searched online for hours trying to find the best sushi restaurant and this came up. Ok so first it’s kinda hard to find, it’s a tiny restaurant tucked away in a strip mall, BUT the food was amazing! We sat at the sushi bar and the chefs were so adorable and fun. They gave us recommendations, told jokes and just seemed to be loving their job. This is definitely some of the best, freshest sushi I’ve ever had in the most fun atmosphere. Loved it and can’t wait to come back!

Another great meal at Oka’s. I had the Mistake roll with charred tuna, a California roll and their spicy Napa salad. The Mistake roll was no «mistake»; it was perfectly crafted with a perfect blend of so many flavors. It was truly wonderful and Dawn is amazing for putting something so beautiful and tasty together; thank you. The California roll was perfect for such a simple roll it was very delicious and the spicy Napa salad was spot on. If you haven’t been to Oka’s or haven’t been there in a while, go now. There food is a treat to your senses and the family that runs this business is a pleasure to be served by. Always support your small businesses so they continue to be there when you want them. You can always find a big chain restaurant, but the little gems are always worth going a little out of your way for. Enjoy and happy eats!

Hands down BEST sushi in town! We’ve been loyal for years now. I’ve tried most of all sushi spots in town and I am never disappointed with Oka! Not only are the ladies friendly, cool casual atmosphere. But the sushi is fresh and like no other. Dine in or take-out you most definitely won’t be dissapointed. My favs & recommended: Baked mussels, Smoken Oka w/cream cheese and the B roll.

I wanted to like this place. After being away from Cali sushi for some time, I thought that surely a place with as many positive reviews as Oka would surely deliver, but it did not. For starters, my sister could not even stomach their Green Tea. It came out in a lovely tea cup and tea pot, but tasted more like cleaner and left a horrible after taste. I ordered a Caterpillar roll expecting to enjoy some eel, however there was way more cucumber than anything else. Everything we ordered looked beautiful, but tasted«meh». Additionally, they were way over priced. Totally not worth it. I definitely would not come back here.

Been going here for years, and its always very fresh tasting. You even hear people around you talking about how yummy it is. Great vegi options. Just ask if they could whip you up a bowl off the menu if you’re a veg out with non-veg folks. 4 sisters own the place and all work there, so the service and friendliness is great!
