Johnny has done it again by creating a family pub atmosphere which offers their traditional broasted chicken, a lovely prime rib /au jus sandwich, and Johnnys trademark sweet potato fries. Service is provided by an eclectic and personable group of competent bar staff, and the weekend bands are Usually good, occasionally not — but hey, there’s never a cover charge, so trying out a new band is never a risk.

Since this is owned by the same person(s) as Southside Johnny’s, I ordered the Smoke Salmon appetizer(which I love at SSJ). Well, it’s a mess here. I received the(tough) salmon along with some watery tomato slices, thin slices of onion, pita, chips, and a spread that was supposed to be a dill/cream cheese spread(I didn’t see any dill). The side of chips looked like they were from the bottom of the box and most were slivers. The pita was fresh but because the way the tomato/onions were sliced(instead of chopped), there was no way to pile them on top of the pita along to the salmon to eat. I get the feeling that no one really orders this appetizer there.

So I am pretty sure everyone in Colorado Springs knows this place, so I am writing this one for the tourists like me. First of all I found myself in a strange part of town, walking, asked someone where could I get a drink. She said«go to the Hogan, great drinks and food». So I kept walking and was thinking to myself, this neighborhood looks like the rough side of my hometown back in the 70s. If I was a normal tourist I would have never found this neighborhood nor stayed in it. Then as I keep walking I see a sign of a large Indian head, and the sign said something like Navajo Joes. I thought to myself, Toto we are not in California anymore. Then I thought whatever this is, I am going in. As I walked to the entrance I noticed that this was my destination, The Hogan was what the locals call it. I opened the unassuming front door and as soon as I enter am pleasantly blown away… The back of the menu will tell you that this place was built in the 30s inspired by Navajo Indian Construction Design. The ceilings are an awesome sight built original with rough hewn timbers and no nails, stacked in a circular shape like a hut or yurt. I will include a photo but it will not do it justice. The place is casual and all of the staff were friendly. I just finished a 2 day drive from California and wanted a drink and the bartender knocked out a vodka tonic for me in a flash. I sat at the back bar as I was tired and didn’t feel like talking to anyone. The bar filled in around me and everyone at one point was talking to me about one thing or another. This is a testament to the friendly nature of this place and probably Colorado as a whole. Coming from the Bay Area of California I impressed. Since I hadn’t had real food in three days and everyone was so welcoming and the person who pointed me here said that they have really good food I dove in. The fried chicken with masters gravy and baked beans were awesome, delicious and really reasonably priced. I ordered a Greek Salad after as a knew I needed some veggies very good as well. Tasty but don’t expect the big chunks of tomatoes and cucumbers you might see on the coasts or the Med. Still very fresh and very good. More yapping with the locals made me think I wanted desert. I ordered a brownie Sunday, classic and very good. To wrap it up, if you come to this town, you should buy all means visit this place for a very good casual meal. I missed the live music because at that point I needed I long long sleep. I will definitely return should I find myself in this beautiful town again. Peace

Just moved here and wanted to try this cool looking place that advertises broasted chicken which is a favorite of mine and something I haven’t had in a long time. Three of us go around 9 p.m. and stand by the ‘wait to be seated sign’ and evidently are invisible. We seat ourselves at a booth next to a couple who appear to be tired of waiting because their table is bare as they leave. It is extremely loud. Finally a server arrives to take drink order and when asked what’s on tap she leaves our table without saying what’s on tap and returns with silverware and menus. We decide we can’t take the noise or the nonchalance attitude so we tell her we are leaving. She slams the silverware into the holder by the door and when I look to see what the loud noise was by my back she smiles sarcastically at me. Really?

Surprise surprise this place serves good food. Go a la carte $ 1.50 + a piece for chicken. $ 3 large slice of pizza $ 3 cup of green Chile all came to $ 10.20 I’m stuffed and satisfied.

Went here for the first time in a long long time! Had the broasted chicken. It was so good great seasoning and so crunchy! The cole slaw was a light fresh side to accompany the chicken! It was a really nice place to have lunch and catch the games! I was pleased to see that they do buckets of the chicken to go! Not a bad price either. We will be back!

Broasted chicken needed new frying oil. Stale oil made the chicken taste awful. Mashed potatoes were cold. Baked beans were OK. Probably a great place to have a beer but skip the food unless you’re too drunk to care. Waiter looked like Drexl from True Romance.

Perfect in every way :-) the Navajo taco was delicious. The broasted chicken was delicious, soooo tender. The mashed potatoes were excellent. The side salad was fresh and the blue cheese dressing was again delicious. The atmosphere was perfect. Very interesting. Maybe? The best food I’ve ever eaten. I think my first five star rating. :-) :-) :-)

This place really is a gem. Not much fanfare as far as advertising goes, but you really just have to pop in and experience this unique ambiance. Excellent food, drinks, service. High marks all around.

Service was great and the beer cheese soup was ridiculously good and the broasted chicken was spot on terrific. The only regret I have is not getting the bowl of beer cheese soup.

The pizza(I can only speak for the vegetarian one with eggplant) is legit and the beer line-up isn’t bad at all. The only downside was the sticky table, broken booth chair, and rotten grease-trap smell that was lingering by the bar/kitchen. Sit away from that area, and hope it doesn’t affect your food. If you’re drinking enough, I suppose you won’t care as much… But next time I go I’ll opt out of the food if the smell remains. The prices are moderate, and for what it is… It certainly is just that. 4 stars based on it living above what I was expecting upon being sat.

Came here a few nights ago with a group of friends and work acquaintances. Love the atmosphere and ambiance and generally have had pretty good experiences. This time our service was a bit off. The waitress let me know she was new to the bar(and maybe to waitressing in general) and she had a great attitude and tried hard, but food and drinks took awhile and several came back incorrect. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it was decent. I could have made a better one at home, though. Not enough cheese and way too many raw onions. Beer selection was decent and came nice and cold. 4 stars because while this was an average experience, I’ve had several better ones at the Hogan.

Never knew what a Navajo Hogan was until we came here… Google it, and you’ll see… really speciall building!!! One of a kind!!! As for food… amazing fried chicken and… believe it or not… really good New York-style pizza… love the neon sign too… great friendly service .but this is Colorado, so of course it is… no pretense whatsoever as is the case most. everywhere in our lovely home state…(aside from Aspen and Vail… which don’t really count as Colorado) Used to be a hard core biker bar… now you could bring your grandma here… and of course… once in a while… an appearance by the AMAZING Robert(of Townhouse Lounge fame in Manitou!)

My wife and I really like Johnny’s Navajo Hogan. They have a great atmosphere(usually people our age 30s-40s), an outstanding selection of draft beers and drinks and the food is good. Most importantly, the service is always super friendly and helpful. There is live music Friday and Saturday nights starting at 9 pm. As much much as I like the genre of music typically played, it gets too loud in the place to really enjoy it. Then again, maybe I’m just getting old.

Johnny’s Navajo Hogan is not in my favorite part of town, and from the outside, it looks pretty sketchy. I wouldn’t have ever come here if not for the recommendations of others. The inside is really cool though(especially the ceiling!), and food and beer selection are both quite good. Amazing happy hour deals. Just a really nice place to hang out after work.

Great atmosphere!!! Great drinks. I will definitely come here again just based on the vibe. Food is decent – comparable to other bar foods. We had the chicken fingers in hot sauce, they were really good!!! The breaking was super great. Guacamole was a little salty. Spinach dip was great! The reason I rated this a 3 instead of a 4 star is the salad we purchased. We had the caprese salad. It lacked any type of green with it to include the basil. Don’t get it! But, what do I expect from bar food? I should’ve have known to not order it… My bad! Go visit! Great location and vibe.

We haven’t been here in years since we stopped bar hopping a while back. But this weekend we want a parents night out without going downtown to «fight club» central. We were not disappointed, since Johnnie has taken over this place it has been cleaned up quite a bit and the food was really good. We ordered some Kobe beef sliders on pretzel rolls and they hit the spot before some drinking was done. Also the drinks were great!!! We had the X-rated Nurse and the Orange Bomber and they both delivered on knocking us on our butts. If you like a middle aged crowd with a good traditional style bands then this is the place to come. Only problem we had was recovering for the next days from to much booze, uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh!
