If your looking for authentic Mexican menudo or birria this is the place to visit! Don’t expect breakfast burritos or typical Mexican breakfast. This establishment has taken a limited specialty Mexican cuisine and perfected it. The service is outstanding and the food is top notch. We are of Hispanic decent and have eaten this type of food in rural ranches in Mexico and I can say this is as close as your going to get to that. I had the birria and my wife had the menudo. We were pleased and will return next time we are in the area. Good job owners

The is our go to place for Mexican breakfast. It’s hard to find a place that makes flan the right way, these guys have perfected it. The coffee is made the traditional Mexican way in a terracotta pot. The smell alone brings back memories of my travels to Mexico.

This place definitely hit the spot! Been looking for a place here in San Diego because the drive to Tj is just too much. So glad my French boyfriend found this spot. And so is he! We loved the birria de res. I got a taco and a consome. Both sooo good. He also loved the quesadilla! This will definitely be our birria spot! The service was great too. They were very nice and fast!

Birria is so good, best quesadilla too! They have fresh made tortillas which are really good, seriously that quesadilla I had was excellent, the cheese is really good, the best one I’ve had! That birria is bomb, my Mexican gf is hating on me because I’m the one who found that spot! We will keep coming

took my mom here for breakfast on Mother’s Day and i was not impressed at all. the flavor is ok. but the service is not so great. took a while to get our drinks, left without leaving us our straws, and took a long time to come back. the birria had a good portion. i shared with my little one and there was a little left over. my mom had a quesabirria, and it was weird to us, the birria was outside the tortilla… so it was very messy to eat. i personally would not reccomend this place.

NEWEASTLAKE location review I was so excited to try the new place in Eastlake out… The hours are not great they close early 4 – 4:30. When we came in at 3:50 the first thing the girl said was«Is it to go because we close in 5 minutes» then she proceeded the tell me their hours of operation… No shit I can read the sign… Still decided to walk in. ummmmm ok I know I know I hate going to restaurants before they close, it can be kind of annoying when people walk in right before closing(used to be a waitress) but hey that’s business. I work nights and sleep during the day so the hours here are not in my favor which is unfortunate because I was really really really excited to try this place. Not so much now because of the customer service, I don’t think you should ever turn away patrons… That’s how you lose business. Maybe I’ll give this place a second chance and write a better review if the food is good. Ps tip for management: put a sign so people know you can’t dine in after a certain time and can only do to go orders.

Everything was delicious. I had the ½ order of birria de res with a side order of rice and beans(sucks that it doesn’t come with the birria) but it was still good. Portion wise it was too much for me but I had my mom and brother to share it with. Service it could have been a little bit better.

The food is very good. They took a little while to bring out food and the guacamole is a little expensive. I had a quesadilla with chivo and it was very good. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because I found some bones in there and even though they do tell you that there might be some bones and I understand it’s almost impossible to remove all of them, they did affect how much I enjoyed my quesadilla. My dad had menudo and he said there’s nothing special about it. My mom had birria tatemada and she really liked it. The tortillas are handmade. We went at around 11:30 am on a Sunday and it wasn’t that full. Parking is limited though.

The menudo was good and the price reasonable. I’m not sure but got the vibe this place has just open. Service was slow and chaotic. The staff was friendly though and i realize it was a sunday morning. So I’ll give it another go in the future, maybe things will settle down.

Late reviewe but i just have to say everything about this place is bomb. Service is amazing and on point as well. My family went in and we had birria de chivo and the kiddos had menudo. The tortillas are hand made in house. They taste great. The quesadillas are so yummy. The cheese oozes everywhere looks like stribg cheese but hooked up. This place gets super busy!!! So dont be suprised if you have to wait a few. I will more than likely come back when I’m craving some bomb soups && well mannered served.

Best birria I have had outside of Tijuana. The tortillas are hand made and the cheese in the quesadillas is amazing. I got an order of birria de chivo and my boyfriend got an order of pozole and a taco with birria de res Everything we ordered was great. I personally liked the birria de chivo(goat) more but both types were great. We both agreed the birria de Chivo was the best thing on the table. Great place, great service, no problem parking(not sure about other reviewers). Will definitely be coming back!

The weather turned cold in November, and my attention turned to soups and stews, specifically, to the Mexican restorative called pozole. I, having shortsightedly married a rubia who thinks Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch is food, was stuck eating pozole in restaurants. I asked around for recommendations, and was disappointed but unsurprised by what my Mexican friends told me: «I go to my aunt’s house;» «I cook it myself;» «There was this one place, I can’t remember the name or where it was, and they were really good, but they closed.» I also got a lot of, «Oh man… you got to go to TJ for that s**t.» My friends, at least in this regard, are well-intended but unhelpful. I’m talking to you, Neto. So I spent hours driving around South County. I Unilocaled my butt off and read a lot of reviews. And eventually, I ate seven pozoles. The pozole rojo at Birrieria Y Menuderia Guadalajara was by far the worst. It wasn’t simply greasy; it was loaded with large chunks of fat in lieu of meat; and even though, «fat is where the flavor is,» the broth lacked the body and heartiness I craved. And where I expected the characteristic smoky/herbal taste of ancho and guajillo chiles, there was none, and the bottled sauces on my table didn’t suffice. Besides these flavor fails, my meal at Guadalajara was skimpy where it counted: my pozole rojo was short on hominy, and my side order of patas wasn’t pig’s feet at all, but was instead boiled-out cross-cut beef shank bones, with no meat and very little of the gelatinous collagen that makes pig’s feet irresistible. I particularly missed that valuable addition to the richness of the bowl. That’s right; my complaints are that the food was terrible, and the portions were too small. God only knows why chefs hate Unilocalers so much. On the other hand, the service at Guadalajara was homely and attentive. My waitress, Eunice [“eh-ooh-NEE-seh”], was sweet and cheerful, and quick to respond to my several requests for more of this and that. I was able to sit, eat and pay, all without substantial delay. And when I mentioned the skimpy pozole to Eunice and later, to a manager, they each said versions of, «Oh, next time, I’ll bring you something better!» And then this happened: As I stood at Guadalajara’s cash register, paying my bill and chatting with the manager, I watched an employee clear my table. She brought molcajetes half-full of onion, cilantro and lime halves to a prep station just outside the kitchen, and tossed my leftovers into bins from which servers draw as they seat new customers. I’d run my fingertips through those condiments, and though I washed my hands before sitting down, I handled a menu afterwards, introducing menu-schmutz to the bowls. Had I not visited the rest room, my fingers would also have carried traces of work, handshakes, steering wheel and the restaurant’s doorknob. I told the manager what I’d seen. Embarrassed, she apologized for the improper procedure and said that she’d speak with her employee. I’m glad for her honest concern — restaurant folk can become nervous and evasive when you mention«food-borne illness» — and I’m relieved that something might be done. Nevertheless, I left Guadalajara preoccupied by disturbing images of working men with sweaty hands and dirty fingernails, sifting through the condiments I’d used to top my pozole. My drive home was stressful, as I monitored for that sudden, explosive surge that flushes the system from its center to its ends. But I reached home unsullied and got over my concern. The woman said she’d take care of the issue, and I believe her, and so, against the advice of some nervous friends, I didn’t run shrieking to the Health Department. However… Life’s too short to eat meatless soups and grody garnishes, so I’m out. ****************************** Here are the places I visited for pozole since November, in my order of preference: — La Sierra Café(Highly Recommended): — El Borrego Restaurant(Highly Recommended): — Birrieria Don Rafa(Recommended): — Canela Mexico City Cuisine(Recommended): — Pozoleria Doña Maria(Recommended): — El Comal(Not Recommended): — BIRRIERIA Y MENUDERIAGUADALAJARA(Not Recommended)

I wasn’t that impressed with this place. Don’t get me wrong the food is good but the red menudo didn’t have that much flavor. Which is weird because that is part of the reason why you order red menudo is for the flavor. I’m not saying it was good it just wasn’t excellent due to the lack of flavor. One thing you should know about eating menudo though is that you have to add condiments. This could be why it was lacking in flavor. So before you dig in add cilantro, union, oregano and plenty of lemon. This is what puts its over the top. So if you like your menudo bland then you will be happy but if you want sazón aka flavor then you have a good base to start from. We also ordered the beef birria which doesn’t make sense I know because traditionally birria is made with goat meat which is available but my wife wants a pet goat and felt sorry for the goats. So the beef birria was also bland and same story just add all the condiments and you should be fine. I liked all the juice they serve it in which is not how everyone serves it. One thing that was the bomb was the café de la olla. I believe the Jamaica was also home made not from powder.

The menudo is off the hook — best I’ve ever had. Clean, no funny smells or tastes, plus plus I didn’t get sick or the shits. The tortillas are handmade deliciousness

I have to say, this was a very impressive restaurant. Unilocal rarely let’s me down and this place was a gem of a find. My wife and I were in the area picking up some plants at a CA Native Plant Nursery and when our tummies were rumbling I searched on Unilocal for something close by, soup sounded great. I had the pozole and my wife had the red Menudo. This place has very authentic, very traditional styles of cooking. This is as real as it gets, go there and try it, go now… NOW!!! Have yet to try the Birriera, we plan to stop by again in a week or two.

First. Customer service is terrible, we had to wait outside for a long time when we saw many empty tables. not until we tell them something they find us a table. Second…the menudo rojo was nasty. really bad it looked old and overcooked! Overall experience we will NEVER come back to this place… i hope this nasty menudo wont cause me to get sick!!:(

Was feeling hungover and figured some hot consume would be the cure. It definitely did the trick ;) We came in around 3 and it was pretty dead. People started trickling in and they close at 4! Felt bad for the employees, but customer service was on point! We ordered a half order of birria de res and a half order of birria de chivo, along with two quesadillas de harina. Everything was pretty tasty and filling! The quesadillas were really good and exactly what we’ve been craving. It isn’t the BEST, but we will most likely be back when craving birria. P. S. — the complimentary chips tasted stale!

The La Nena restaurant on Broadway, Chula Vista is now the Birrieria y Menuderia Guadalajara. The same chef under new management. I ordered the«menudo rojo» tripe cooked in red soup with hominy for $ 6.95. I also ordered the carnitas with rice and fried beans $ 7.95. Food is OK. Parking here is not a problem, restroom is clean. The customer service is great. Staff are very friendly and welcoming, especially Martin he gave me a cup of birrieria to try. That is so nice if him. The pork legs cooked for hours with soup I was told is really good. Maybe next time when I happened to be passing by this area during my quest for new place to try.

Pros: inexpensive, great portions, AUTHENTIC mexican food, attentive staff Cons: small parking lot It was a miracle finding this place on Mothers day! As my brother and I drove down Chula Vista looking for a place that sold menudo(our mothers favorite) that wouldnt involve an hour wait we were about to give up until we stumbled upon this gem. It was around 10 am on mothers day morning, and we got seated as soon as we walked in. The restaurant is very small, they do not have a very large menu but you will not be disappointed. They have menudo, birria and carnitas we orded some of everything and It was all very delicious. The cooks and the staff were on top of it, our order came out quickly and hot, the food was fresh, the quesadillas were extra cheesy, tacos were bomb, rice & beans were awesome, menudo and birria were very good. Overall it was a great meal, my whole family was pleased and we are definitely returning soon.
