We tried this place for breakfast based on the reviews and they weren’t lying! The food was amazing and the service was incredible. Our waiter Manny was so nice and attentive. We both had different skillets that were delicious and fresh ingredients! You must try it!

Delicious. I have never had a problem with slow service like a couple other reviews stated. The resto is always very clean, great staff, chilaquiles are out of this world delicious and their coffee is nice and strong. Love this place!

Hands down BEST breakfast food around! I wish I would have tried this place sooner. Combo skillet is amazing. Omelette was excellent, the spinach/tomato taste like actual fresh produce, and the feta cheese was really good, too. I would say this is some of the highest quality«diner» food Ive had, yet its several dollars cheaper than any of the other diners in the neighborhood. If you haven’t tried this place yet, GIVETHEM A SHOT.

My friend and I were pretty disappointed with this place. The only soft drinks they had to offer is sprite and coke, our eggs were not prepared according to what we ordered, and the hashbrowns are pretty tasteless in general. The service was very slow at the beginning but all that being said the servers were very friendly. Just kidding, as we were walking out someone else had a diet coke. They arrived after us.

Love this place. This is my second time here. Great customer service, and the food wait quick as well. I love their salsa. The food presentation is very nice as well.

In my search for a local neighborhood restaurant I found this place on Unilocal… unfortunately. We walked in and found a seat immediately… it wasn’t busy and we were excited to find a local gem. The tables order consisted of: Eggs, Bacon, Pancakes, Hashbrowns, Chicken Noodle Soup, their fresh juice blend and Tropicana orange juice… That’s 7 ways to leave a good impression. They failed on every accord possible. Rude, cold food, missing items, and… delayed attention. They were fully staffed, the restaurant was 75% empty and the manager sarcastically asked me to «look around»(as if they were packed) in explanation of their errors.

Came here because of the great reviews, came out disappointed. Restaurant was understaffed for a sat morning, took a long time to get our food. When it came, they messed up the order. Ambiance was dark and cold. Food was decent. Not coming back.

LOVELOVELOVE this place! I moved to the city from the suburbs about a year ago and my son and I were looking for a new weekend bfast place. We came upon Shila’s on Unilocal and decided to check it out because of all the great reviews and affordability! Since the moment we walked in we were enamored with the place because the people running the place are so great and make you feel like you are at home. The owners of the restaurant(Reina and Manual) came over to greet us and since then we’ve become quite fond of Reina. Now about the food: I always get the chilaquiles, because, why not? They are baked and made fresh each day… Reina makes the yummy green sauce :) My son likes to try different things from the menu but really loves the bfast sandwich, which comes on a croissant with a side of hash browns and mini pancakes. Reina also started making tamales and this past weekend she gave us a sample and they are perfect! I felt like I was at my mom’s house. LOL. My son had the red tamales(pork and chicken) and I had the rajas tamal. I love tamales de rajas and she made them perfectly! Needless to say, we brought some home… and I just had the last one last night so I will be going back for more this week. Finally, I don’t get the bad reviews on here… I’ve been coming here for about a year and we’ve never experienced anything like other reviewers have described. Anyway, check it out for yourself!

I don’t know how this place is still in business. Not only have they failed multiple health inspections recently, but they have AWFUL service. A few weeks ago my boyfriend and his friends waited MORETHANANHOUR for their food when there was ONEOTHERTABLETHERE. That is unacceptable. A waiter actually gave them the check before they even got their food. The worst part? They didn’t apologize. Their food isn’t even good! Needless to say none of us will ever be back.

This is my first bad review ever :-( We arrived and were seated right away. No one came to speak to us for 25 minutes and it was not that busy. Three other couples sat down AFTER us and their orders were taken. They were SERVED before our order was taken. We definitely flagged someone down to tell them we hadn’t been seen. Our waitress, who I had been observing for a while, finally came over and said«I was making my way over here.» The issue is, she didn’t even acknowledge us at all. She could have at least brought us the menu and said hi and that she would be back. She didn’t. Instead, she was busing tables and bringing out food. It would have taken two minutes to come ask us for our order, then place it to the kitchen since she was ALREADYTHEREPICKINGUPOTHERORDERS to take to tables. We were there a total of TWOHOURS for a breakfast burrito and hashbrowns before we checked out… are you kidding me?! Next, we both ordered the burritos with hashbrowns. I asked if french toast came ala carte. She said it did not. I then SPECIFICALLY said«that’s ok if it’s not on the side, I want them anyway, I’ll just put in an order for the regular plate.» She brought out our burritoes… but no french toast. I asked about it and she left, then came back and said it wasn’t made because she«wasn’t sure if I actually wanted it.» –again, are you kidding me? Even my boyfriend said I was very explicit. At this point it had been an hour and 20 minutes. She asked me if I wanted to go ahead and put the order in – really? What kind of crap is that? Of course I don’t, it’s been over an hour for a burrito. The fact that she asked let me know we would be paying for it. What should have happened was her say«that was my mistake, I put the order in for you, and don’t worry about the [$ 4] charge,» especially knowing how crappy we had been treated thus far. It took so long for all of this to go down, that by this time I had a pounding headache and was super hungry. When the food did come, I ate so fast I became nauseated and couldn’t even finish. When we got up to leave, we sat at the checkout counter, again waiting to be checked out. The man who was there didn’t acknowledge us, but he did yell back to our waitress to come check us out. She CLEARLY saw us standing there but wanted to continue busing the table instead of helping her customer. Bottom line: The waitress had her own agenda and stuck to it rather than trying to make the experience pleasurable for her customers. There was NO teamwork or communication(as evidenced by the lack of knowledge we were sitting there when seated by the original person who greeted us). I will never go back. A waste of time, and EXTREMELY disrespectful.

Loved this place!!! Stumbled on it when IHOP had an hour wait and it was WAY better. I had an omelet which was stuffed with fresh veggies! My husband had a breakfast burrito with fresh avocado. Aside from good food the prices were very economical and the service was excellent. It is family owned so obviously they care about their customers. We never had an empty drink and they made our little kids feel like they were part of the family. It’s rare to find a restaurant that appreciates 2-year olds! We will be going back regularly! Give it a try! Also — the family said they had had challenges finding good servers in the past which is perhaps the reason for a few of the poor service reviews. Seems like they’ve gotten that taken care of now.

Shilas has great food and service ! Their food has that home made taste and you can tell that it is made with patience and love. I especially like their chilaquiles and skirt steak breakfast! The food does take a little long to come out but the quality of the food is obvious. I would pick Shilas over Golden Nugget or IHOP anyday!

Skillet breakfast –oh yeah! So us Cali kids wanted a great Chicagoen breakfast. Should we spend $ 19 for the Marriott brunch? No way. Thanks to previous Unilocalers for highlighting Shila’s, a short jaunt on bus #56 bus off the Jefferson CTA blue line station. The atmosphere in Shila’s is warm and the serving staff are friendly. Even better, the food is wonderful. The Veggie Skillet was robust and soooo tasty. The Hangover Skillet was another winner. To be truthful, the serving sizes were so BIG we probably should have shared a skillet. Bottom line — Shila’s dishes up great food.

Let’s start off w the good: the employees are VERYVERY genuinely nice(our male server offered to pour my Sprite in my glass of ice for me. Who does that?! Amazing) Really good sweet potato fries Decent burgers Now, two stars deducted, because we were THEONLYONES dining here, we got here at exactly 1:20pm(I know exactly, bc we paid for the parking meter), and the hubby and my burgers didn’t come out ’til 1:51pm!!! Why do burgers at a completely empty restaurant take 30 mins to make?! The super long wait time made me so sad.

My wife and I recently from Pilsen into Portage Park and this is easily or favorite local restaurant. The staff is friendly, professional and genuinely interested in giving you a great dining experience. Usually this is are go to for breakfast but when we heard they were extending their hours for dinner we had to come support. Unlike the pretentious owner of «Community Tavern» who always acts like it’s a waste of time to talk to his customers. The owner at Shila’s warmly greets us like family. The mushroom soup was hearty but not over seasoned. I usually get the combo skillet with mini pancakes. Enjoy.

I saw Shilas on Unilocal. It’s rated 4 ½ stars and a single $. Based on this and the reviews I decided to give it a try. Shilas is located on Cicero Ave just a few doors south of Irving Park. The restaurant is a simple storefront facing east. Inside the décor is very dated. The first thing I noticed is that there seemed to be a disproportionately large number of people working for the number of customers. I came in direct contact with 5 people. One the hostess that sat me, two the waitress(very nice and friendly), the owner came by to see how everything was, a girl that refilled my water and asked me how everything was. & finally the cook that actually brought my food to me. The service was pretty good Based on the 4 ½ star review I was a little disappointed by the menu items. Nothing really jumped off the page that I was salivating to try. Just your basic breakfast and lunch items. Then the waitress went by with a plate for the next table. On the way back I intercepted her and asked what the guy at the next table ordered. He ordered quesadillas with eggs, spinach, onions, mushrooms & cheese with hash browns. I decided that we what I wanted as I already had a hankerin git me some Mexican vittles. They were pretty good, but lacked some seasoning. After adding the salsa that came with the meal it was much better

Ever since they opened, the owners Reyna & Manuel have been not only gracious, courteous and conscientious, they have their heart & soul in Shilas. They ask questions and respond in kind. Their desire to be successful is based on their customers satisfaction. Much success is my wish for this adventurous couple!

I came here with friends on the way to the airport. It got good reviews on Unilocal and I can see why. I order the special which was chile quiles and it was Amazon. I was also surprised to find it was vegetarian! The meal was the perfect bled of spice and flavor. My vegetarian friend had the breakfast burrito, and he agreed that it was also the perfect blend. The whole experience was most enjoyable. I don’t know how often I’ll be in the area, or if I’ll ever be back, but if you’re in the area and want to try a Mexican style breakfast, then try Shilas. I did!
