We went to Nick’s based on the Unilocal reviews as we are always looking for a neighborhood gem. Family diner with its typical old Chicago 1970’s charm. I can appreciate that atmosphere since I’m a Chicagoan myself, but… When we sat at our table, we had our choice of where, it had two dirty coffee cups and the table should have been cleaned again. Waitress was very nice, so no complaints there. Then the food. So many reviews raved about it, I was excited to enjoy my meal. French toast with bacon for me and 3 Dueces for my hubs. Mediocre at best, sorry Nick, my bacon was crispy like I like it, but flat burnt crispy, French toast was very eggy and not cooked all the way through in some parts. My hubs was ok with his, but he claims average at best, bland even. If it wasn’t for the dirty cups and table they might get a 3 star review from me because they were really nice people. The food needs a makeover.

What can say, Best veggie omelette in town! the staff is awesome, the owner nick is like a grandfather I never have… love this place

I was so excited when I heard this place delivered breakfast, being new to the city and always asking for recommendations on food, this place was always highly spoken of. My ordered was placed a hour and 15 minutes prior to me getting it. The driver delivering my food was not in fact a worker of the establishment but just a customer they «begged» to make the delivery. I ordered drinks that never made it. Food was cold, and didn’t look appealing at all. The food was smushed to one side of the containers like it had fallen over. I was really let down by this place for not putting more care into making sure I got the best experience. To top it off, the driver came back after leaving to tell us he gave us too much change back, and I know how much I handed him and how much I got back but was in no mood to argue, and when I told him about the mistakes I was told it wasn’t his problem, he is only a customer. I’m very sorry to say I will not ever be returning or ordering from this place ever again.

Nicks hi hoe café is amazing!!! Great food great conversation! Nick knows many of his customers I. A first name basis which only shows how much he cares ! Olé school just like going to grandmas house. And the place is very cozy no screams no shots just good olé people looking for a good olé plate to eat !!! I wish businesses would remember how it is to cater to there customers. Stop by and be the judge I’m sure your going to love Nick and the staff!!! A+

I saw a great review and decided to check it out. The space is old and run down. The family that ran it seemed overworked and barely had the energy to clean tables between guests. I refused to sit down until they cleaned the table again. The omelet I had was o.k. I live in walking distance to this place and I will never go there again.

First time here today around 10:30am and boy, was there a rush. It was a pretty busy place but the service was friendly and just great overall. The ladies there were relatable and super nice!
The food was good for the price. It was great to support a local business. I’ll be sure to be back again seeing all the regulars here. Everyone seemed to know eachother by names and asked about one another’s family and friends which is so nice to see.

Wow! Just great! We used to go to the Hi-​Ho at Addison and Pulaski where in the back was their lovely Starlite Room. We so enjoyed it back in the day (especially the organist they had). Well, more great dining here on Cicero!!!

Came in had a wonderful time. Waitress was very friendly and always checking on us. Food was so delicious that I was salivating more than usual.

Found Nick’s restaurant on Unilocal and gave it a try on Saturday. We were in the neighborhood and wanted to find a local diner for breakfast. We fell in love with this place and can understand why it gets such good reviews. Everyone was friendly, and the food was delicious. Our waitress Margie was genuinely kind and had a great sense of humor. We met Nick, the owner, and he made us want to come back again just to see him. I had the veggie skillet and I would definitely get it again next time. We were treated like family at Nick’s Hi-​Lo Restaurant and I would go out of my way to go there again.

We just love it here. We live down the street, we come here every two weeks and the staff and food is just great. If you like diners, make sure you check out this spot.

Nick’s Hi-​Ho is mighty scrumptious. After moving to the neighborhood almost a year ago, figured I would check out this place. Sure, any place can make halfway decent breakfast and lunch food, but Nick nails it. Not only does Nick do a great job cooking up food, but Margie is the sweetest, serving up food with a smile. If you’re looking for mimosas and organic applewood bacon, this isn’t your place, but if you’re looking for a solid restaurant serving up homemade breakfast, soup, sandwiches in a friendly place that time seemed to have forgotten, this is for you.

I’ve been coming here for years and I must say the food is always great from their breakfast skillet to thier daily lunch specials. they make everything fresh. They have great soups daily. every Sunday they have my favorite cream of chicken rice soup. service is excellent. You must give them a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Just moved around The neighborhood and figured we would give this mom and pop shop a chance. We enjoyed our breakfast very much. Fresh ground coffee which was delicious definitely will be back for breakfast

Great old school Greek Style diner. Excellent omelets, very good steak and eggs, obviously handmade grandma style «kefte» hamburgers that were fresh and delicious. The owner is almost always there, often cooking, the other cooks are just as good. My favorite is the hungry man’s corn beef hash skillet, a hangover cure if ever there was one. Makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time to the 70’s at a Greek joint during the 6 am breakfast rush somewhere on Madison or Halsted Street. Price is reasonable, portions are big, place is clean, great value for the money.

This place stole my heart last year when i got the skirt steak. Thaaat is goooooood eatin.
Is it the most inviting place from the outside? No. But once you go inside and sit down the waitstaff are all oncredibly friendly and attentive. The food comes fast and its always good.
I am a sucker for steak and eggs for breakfast and this is without a doubt the place to go for that.
Afforable and super tasty. I always leave in a happy mood.

Solid neighborhood café. A great place for breakfast. Service can be a little slow when there is only one server, and they forgot a few items like toast and more coffee and cheese on my mother-in-law’s omelet but they were very apologetic and fixed everything. I would definitely go back!
The breakfast sandwiches are worth a try.
