The street offers numerous motels and hotels. When I arrived, the motel no longer had any singles so I rented a double. After my credit card was charged, I was then told that the air-con unit in the room was very noisy; he should have told me this before I agreed to rent the room. The room entertainment was on CRT model tv, and the cable network did not offer HBO or Showtime. The hot water was near hot; the room was furnished w/a refrigerator but not a microwave. Finally the room and carpet was very clean.

First of all, let me say that this place bailed us out of a rough situation. We were on a road trip in the South, showed up in Charleston without a hotel reservation, and we weren’t finding a single room for two nights ANYWHERE. We weren’t panicking yet, but we were getting nervous. Then we found the Evergreen. I wasn’t real keen on it, but at this point we didn’t have too much of a choice. The lady in the office was very nice and the price was definitely right – $ 40/night. But when we stepped in the room, the stench of stale cigarette smoke hit me. Unfortunately, non-smoking rooms weren’t available. We turned the air conditioner on blast and it still didn’t cool the room down very much. This was during one of the worst heat waves in a long time going on on the East Coast. So, stinky room that didn’t cool down much. Bleh. We tried not to be in the room much. The shower worked fine, but there was no hair dryer and I didn’t bring one. One interesting thing was that we got a call from the office telling us if we wanted fresh towels, to leave our old ones outside our door. Nobody stepped foot into our room while we were there – no one made the bed or cleaned the sink, toilet, or shower area. I guess it did save us leaving a tip for the housekeeper for one day. My recommendation is to stay here only as a last resort like we did. We appreciated not having to sleep in our car, but this is not a very nice motel. Motel 6 would be a much better choice.
