HORRIBLE experience. We went today for Mother’s day, spent 3 hours for what should have been a one hour meal. Waited for 1.5 hours for the first course. My salmon dish came out lukewarm after hours of waiting for it. And in the end, they didn’t even compensate us for anything. Yep, we paid full price, over two hundred dollars for terrible service and a lukewarm so-so meal. The management was nowhere to be found. Ridiculous. Stay away from this terrible place.

Solid but not memorable Italian food at very fair prices. 3.5 stars seems exactly right, if that were an option; service was polite, unobtrusive, and unpretentious so I’m happy to round up. I wouldn’t come here on a date, but with casual friends or family this is a comfortable option, especially with the free parking just outside the restaurant — a rare gem in Chapel Hill.

Excellant food! The crab ravioli is outstanding! Service is attentive. If you go on a weekend make reservations.

My husband and I dined here on a Sunday evening during UNC spring break and enjoyed ourselves. Reservations can be made on Open Table and this cute little date night spot has some wonderful inside and outside dining. Tables are a little close for my liking but plenty of windows overlooking Franklin St. offered up some great people watching. I enjoyed the fact that sparking water is an option and served with fresh lemons and limes. As a carb lover I thought the bread basket was a nice touch with an interesting mix of rolls and what not. We ordered the warm mixed olives to start and they were delicious with the tomatoes and garlic but I was kicking myself after seeing the table next to us and the clams they ordered. For entrées my husband ordered the Agnello which was a hearty portion of Lamb for the $ 18.95 price tag and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I went with the Gnocchi($ 15.50) in the gorgonzola cream and pesto sauce which was fantastic and again a good size portion. Food was above average and the setting was nice but like others have stated the service was lacking. I appreciated her timing between appetizer and entrées but some of our waitress’s comments were not professional and she really pissed off the table next to us by only getting one person’s drink order. They do offer some weekly specials– Wednesday — Half Price Dinner Entrees and Sunday — Half Price Wine Bottles. Despite our less than stellar waitress I would return and dine again at Vespa.

The service was incredibly slow. We waited for 30 min and had to ask for water. We had to ask for water everytime. Waited 20 min for my drink. The service was just horrible. Actually, theres not really any service. Now i know why its empty most of the time i walk by.

Worst service I have ever had at a restaurant. Their food is subpar and tasted like it was microwaved. I do not recommend

Very yummy and nice ambiance. Very friendly. But hard to find a parking spot. Omg! Their marinara is homemade and so fresh tasting. I have never had calamari this fresh tasting.

This place is definitely a-ok! The lunch specials are reasonable(main, side salad or soup, and bread) and I had a few things that I liked and some that I didn’t so like. The chicken panini was probably one of the best I’ve had in years. The ciabatta bread was fresh and toasted just right. The soup of the day, some kind of veggie, was pretty weak though. The broth wasn’t very hardy and very few veggies other than carrots to be seen. The salads were very good though so I would get that before I got soup again as a side. The bread is bread-not worth the additional carbs for me. The gluten free pasta dish was funky. Not because it was gluten free but I expected it to have fresh tomatoes and not stewed like. I really wish they would add an Alfredo or pesto sauce to the lunch line up. I would like to go back and try dinner since their menu is more diverse then. On Wednesday nights entrees are ½ off and you can get an early bird 3 course meal between 5 and 6 for about $ 20. The cocktails looked promising but I didn’t try. I’d probably bump it up to five stars if they had a self serve ICEEMACHINE.

I had a fabulous experience at Vespa last night! Me and 3 of my girlfriends went and had dinner for 1 of their birthdays. We were warmly greeted at the door by the bartender and told the hostess would be with us momentarily. Our server’s name was Brittany, and she was very attentive, and was able to answer all of our questions and also recommended an excellent appetizer, the clams, and caprese salad. We never had to ask for drink refills. And at the end of our meal, our server brought my friend a big chunk of homemade tiramisu with a birthday candle in it, and all 4 of us got a complimentary dessert wine, free of charge. They all made us feel very warm and inviting, and i will definitely be back and would recommend this restaurant to anybody that enjoys excellent service, drinks, hospitality, and food!

Lovely experience here. The waitress was incredibly attentive and polite. The food was really very good and fast. The chicken parm was a delicious updated baked version with perfect flavor and no guilt. The mushroom polenta was creamy & tasty. The desserts are worth saving room for!

Hadn’t been in many years after a poor experience but this visit will bring us back again. Went with friends and had and excellent meal, good wine, excellent service and good value. My lasagna was terrific. Our friends are new to the area and loved it.

My husband and I came here for dinner last minute on a friday night. We sat outside, split a bottle of wine, listened to Percy Sledge and had a really great time. Our server was extremely nice and the food was delicious and super affordable. I had the gnocchi in pesto cream sauce and my husband had the spicy seafood pasta. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I loved my dish so much that if I went back I would order it again. I have no idea how this place wasn’t slammed on a Friday night. I’l definitely be back in the future.

Had an awesome lunch here, and the patio was a great place to enjoy wine and appetizers — its right on Franklin St. and perfect during the warm months. Save room for the best tiramisu in town!

The service here is absolutely horrendous. We didn’t see a server for 20 minutes after being seated and one came right before we got up to leave and go elsewhere. Even then the server was distracted and we had to repeat our order multiple times since he wasn’t paying attention. The food was mediocre, and definitely not worth the awful service.

We went to Vespa for a celebration last week and our service here was great. Food was delicious and the waiter joked around with us and didn’t act annoyed when we asked him to take our picture.

I really wanted to like Vespa, but it did not deliver. For the prices on the menu the quality and finish was not there. However, I like the ambience of the restaurant and the location. In addition they have an extensive wine list. The service was ok. Our waiter did not check up on us as frequently as I would hope. One thing that perturbed me was that I made a reservation through Unilocal and under special occasion I said it was my wife’s birthday. There was no acknowledgement that it was my wife’s birthday. I am not looking for a free dessert but a simple«Oh I see that you are celebrating your birthday, HAPPYBIRTHDAY, thank you for dining with us» Simple things like that go a long way.

I love the ambience here, they’ve got an adorable Italian theme with bright colors — especially Carolina Blue — and really cute patio dining with a dedicated lot!(Unheard of on Franklin St). The service also is exemplary. I’ve been here with a large group and just as a couple, both times the service was incredibly attentive, professional, and helpful. There were a few expertly couched warnings in the waiter’s description which I appreciated; very very classy(he had a very polite way of saying the Gnocchi might not be filling enough). However, the food here is very good, classic, and well-presented Italian food — I just can’t see why it costs $ 15 — $ 30. Was it good? –Yes it was. Was it great or outstanding? –Not really. The flavors didn’t knock me over and nothing was incredibly original. I will probably come back here for fun outdoor dining with the girls on Half-Price Wednesday nights, but otherwise I’m headed to 411 West for expertly-crafted Italian food at a great value, and more romantic cheesy ambience.

This is probably my favorite place for Italian in all of the downtown Chapel Hill/Carborro area! I highly recommend their gnocchi or their lasagna! The service is also spot on, and the waiters constantly came to refill our drinks. For dessert, I tried their tiramisu with melted chocolate. It was the best tiramisu I’ve tried in America. Overall I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic Italian meal!

My wife and I came in for dinner last night. Food was really excellent! We ordered Caesar salad, gnocchi, lamb shank and ricotta cheesecake. Caesar salad was pretty good with the right amount of dressing. Gnocchi would be good if the prosciutto pieces weren’t burnt. The lamb shank was great! Meat was tender and flavorful and the risotto was goopy. Cheesecake was meh. I’d give the the food four stars. Wasn’t perfect but good enough! Had to shave off one star for service. Why would they let someone work the first time on big nights such as New Year’s Eve? Two separate tables got impatient and walked out. My wife was getting close to have me do the same but I asked her to be patient. In the past I’ve had my share of being ignored at places where Asians don’t belong but I understood that wasn’t the case last night. Finally the waitress came to us apologizing and explained that it’s her first night working. She did ok for the rest of our meal.
