I can’t imagine giving a hotdog joint4 stars but this is a solid place with a good southern dog. I guess it’s what you were raised on and I like boiled soft weenies and soft steamed buns. Solid dog in a clean friendly setting. Jimi and Skynard tunes are appreciated :-) I would return without reservations. Pun. 5 weenie dog options should please anyone. Beer available since it is a college area. Franklin St rents reflected in prices I reckon.

Hot dogs were ok, nothing special. I would prefer to have my baked beans hot, as they were not even warm.

My wife and I wanted a small, vegan-friendly bite on New Year’s Eve. Trolly Stop turned out to be perfect. They have veggie dogs. The baked beans are not vegan, however, they have huge«half pickles» that make a great side. We had the German and Chicago, both as veggie dogs. We were very happy with how they tasted. Both come with deli mustard, which is at every table. They also have one yellow mustard dispenser so you can have two kinds of mustard on your veggie dog,

It’s a hot dog place and the hot dog sucks. It was grey, almost white, and mushy with absolutely no «snap» that you would expect out of a quality hot dog. I got a «Chicago» dog and while I wasn’t expecting a faithful recreation, the toppings at least covered up the crappy hot dog inside. My poor kids got plain hot dogs so there was nowhere to hide. One of them said, «is it supposed to be this color?»

Great service for sure. I’m excited to bring my own dog here as they’re dog friendly. I had a great first hotdog, I’m sure I’ll be back to earn my free 10th hotdog. Quick, yummy, and not expensive!

I’d have to agree with one of the previous reviewers here… try Trolly Stop Hot Dogs for yourself before becoming disappointed over some of the previous reviews. It’s a nice little place. The staff was very helpful in pointing out the various hot dog styles available, along with the pricing, drink, and side options. The shop itself is set up with a few indoor tables along the wall, with a television available to view sports, etc. The artwork is fun and colorful, with a huge hot dog greeting you above as you enter and leave. The hot dogs are similar in style to other hot dog establishments we have frequented in the area. I liked the option of having bagged chips of my choosing along with my hot dog(s). I ordered the veggie dogs, while the rest of my party ordered their beef style options. All were good. Trolly Stop is tucked away a bit within a smaller section of Chapel Hill’s sidewalk restaurants. It is located diagonally across the street from the Franklin Hotel or directly across the street from Chipotle. I recommend Trolly Stop especially for the prices. With Chapel Hill being a college-oriented town, the pricing at Trolly Stop is acceptable for students on a budget. Just a note on the parking situation in the area. Parking is one of the trickier issues in Chapel Hill, but there are parking garages and parking lots available. Most are paid parking. Do not risk parking in lots that are for other restaurants… the town has tow trucks everywhere ready to pounce.

Brand new, super-clean interior. Friendly, chatty staff. My boss, who almost choked on his own nostalgia for this place, was livid that I was giving TSHD3-stars. But, I am not a proponent of grade inflation. 3-stars is a solid-performer. The best parts of this visit were the milkshake and large side pickle I ordered. Was I a pregnant woman in a past life? Regardless, that ice cream and pickle combo sent me to the moon. The pickle alone is a 5-star rating. However, my milkshake’s flavor was diluted. The ratio of milk to ice cream seemed to be off, but I’m still thrilled they are using real ice cream. Serving size is nice, too, especially in comparison to their competitor across the street. What prevents TSHD from gaining a 4th star? Sadly, it is their mainstay, their namesake: the hot dog. I ordered a turkey dog and a veggie dog, and took account of my companion’s all-beef dog. Hot dogs were decent in taste, their length was beyond the bun, but they were lacking girth. I like my hotdog like I like my… pickles. Heft! In their defense, Al’s down the street also sells hotdogs of the same nondescript flavor and size. You can get these dogs in the cheap section of your local Harris Teeter.
And while I understand that boiled dogs contribute to people’s nostalgia, it’s a bit passé. Like any food that is boiled, these dogs have given up most of their flavor in the process. TSHD would be wise to consider adding a grilled version of their popular franks so that customers aren’t obligated to load their wieners with toppings in order to find flavor. A naked dog should still satisfy. Add this option and watch a whole new generation of TSHDers flock. Will be back for the pickles.

Just ate here. One friendly guy making the dogs. One unfriendly guy at the register that remained on his phone while people waited to pay and get refills. First and last visit to this place. Just being honest. Trolly Stop Hot Dogs — Chapel Hill Hot Dog Joint 239 likes Like Comment

Great friendly staff. Awesome hot dogs. Definitely give it a try! The baked beans are excellent too! I recommend the Tar Heel Turkey Dog. Thanks for offering different kinds of meats!

Try to ignore the amateur reviews of this place. The staff have been very friendly on multiple occasions, and it seems like they are still just getting a hang of the menu, as they always double check my order. But the food is good! I recommend the Mexican dog, and stopping by on a Tuesday for their 2 dog + side = 4.25.

What a disappointment! This restaurant is nothing like the one I love on Wrightsville Beach. The layout doesn’t flow and the first time I went in there they messed my order up(I was the only one in the entire store). Seriously, two hot dogs and a side of baked beans and that proved to be too difficult. The staff, minus the owner, are extremely rude and apathetic. I don’t think they will be in business for very long.

Upon entering this house of horrors, the first thing that struck me was the sticky floor. After ordering my German dog, I had the misfortune of tasting it. Needless to say I now know what is like to be the back end of the Human Centipede. The hotdog tasted like how raw sewage smelled. The best part of this place was the staff who were friendly.

Trolly Stop is new in town! Don’t hesitate to stop in – you won’t be disappointed! The folks behind the counter are friendly and welcoming – and patient if you want to scan over their extensive menu options. Many kudos for offering many dog options including a turkey dog and veggie dog! I opted for their baked beans as the side option. Seriously a great decision on my part. Delish! Their pricing is right, their delivery is fast and with a smile. We’ll be back! Those who dined with me gave it a two thumbs up as well. Keep ‘em coming Trolly Stop!
