I would call the Raw Bar at the Lobster House my second home(to much?). The Lobster House really is divided in a couple different parts. Raw Bar, Lobster House inside, The Schooner, Take out, and Pick Up. I ate inside once. It is not for me. The prices are spiked up to eat off a white table cloth and see servers in traditional sailor outfits(think pop-eye)…My suggestion would be to go a little later in the evening around 7pm. Place your order and pick it up and eat it on the dock. Enjoy the weather and the atmosphere. Dogs are allowed on the dog. Raw Bar is great but can get a little dark when the sun begins to set, not the best lighting in there. The schooner is a great place to grab a drink and maybe an app while waiting. You can eat up on the boat but its great to relax and watch the boats roll in and out of the marina. They make great crushes. Its a great spot in Cape May. Best when its not prime time summer. It will be mobbed and you will go crazy in the parking lot. Again, don’t go during prime time dinner times and you will be good to go. Always pretty open during lunch :)

Love the Lobster House in Cape May. Primarily I eat inside the main restaurant at bar, but I do eat at the coffee shop in the front and the raw bar on the wharf, however the schooner american is one of my favorites to have a drink. Inside my two favorites are the crap imperial and the sautéed scallops. The picture of me is at the schooner american.

We are regulars here in the summer. We can always count on a good meal and good service every time we come. Never disappoints. If you can get there early enough for breakfast, you should! It is a small counter with limited seating, so if it’s crowded you could be waiting for a little while, but it’s worth the wait. The prices are great and so are the portions. Their french toast is amazing!

Let me start by saying we love seafood especially in the summer. On a late summer afternoon while searching for a early dinner in the area we ran into The Lobster house. We opted for an earlier dinner in hopes of missing the crowds. Unfortunately, it seems everyone else had the same idea. We waited around 45 minutes to be seated. My fiancé’s pasta with a variety of seafood(lobster, shrimp, and scallops) was above average. The seafood portion was fair and the pasta cooked just fine. My daughter’s chicken tenders and fries($ 10) was the most overpriced underwhelming meal I have ever purchased. The apple sauce is delicious. I chose a new england clam chowder and a caesar salad. Both were ok. The clam chowder was on the bland side and very watery. The Caesar salad was small. The restaurant was super busy and our waitress may have had a valid reason to be absent most of the time, but I felt like we were ignored. The dining area is huge and each table is dressed with a crispy white cloth. There is a dress code so be sure to bring a nicer change of clothes if you plan to hit the beach beforehand. Overall, I felt the food was just okay and pricey. There are plenty of seafood spots at the shore, so this spot will not be at the top of my list next time.

I hate seafood but I went here for a family occasion. I had the chicken francaise and it was amazing. For $ 20 I got a lot of food — the large entrée, plus two sides and a side salad. If the special vegetable of the day is cabbage mixed with carrots and mushrooms, I definitely recommend it. The décor was beautiful, there is a separate bar area and dining area, as well as outdoor seating. The dining room overlooks the waterfront with large windows, which is absolutely stunning around dinner-time. The servers were all very knowledgeable about the menu and were so friendly. I can’t wait to return.

I just recently went in & I really don’t get the attraction. The décor and the food is tired & uncreative. The service from hostess & management is horrible unless you are a regular… not nice to make it soooo apparent. The bartenders were atrocious & obnoxious… no rhyme or reason to how they choose who they go to next. All in all, the outside area is nice in summer… the interior leaves much to be desired year round. It is iconic in the area but why not try & give your patrons something fun & creative when they come in. The view is always nice and the servers really do a nice job and that earns it 2 stars for me.

My boyfriend and I took a trip to Cape May to go to the zoo and decided to go here for dinner. He’s come here several times but I have never been here until now. The wait was about 45 minutes which I have no complaints about. I’m a hostess and I know how it is. The building was nicely decorated and quite large. I was actually surprised how big it was in the inside. I decided to get the Shrimp Scampi with Yellow Rice. I am not a huge fan of seafood, although I like shrimp. This dish was really good. The portions were large. The service was good, attentive but not overly. I enjoyed this place. I would come back if I was down there again.

Unanimous opinion from our entire group — lobster house was alright. Parking lot was crazy filled just before 5pm and you had go park on crunchy gravel. We just came from the beach with our dog so we ordered take out and are in their back dock area which wrapped around the entire length of the restaurant. Good: lots of seating. Bad: it was so packed that we had to walk all the way to the other side of the restaurant to find a table. At least we found one. Had to walk back the entrance end to order, after they call your number like a deli shop. Considering it was so crowded inside and outside we didn’t have to wait long for our food which tasted ok but had to dip everything on butter. And I usually don’t add extra butter to anything. Decent amount of seafood at a good price but will probably not go back. There are so many other places to eat!

Wonderful experience. Has a restaurant and a fish market. Large portions! Great service in the restaurant area. Delicious food– flounder francaise is just amazing. Friends got the sautéed crab and they had huge delicious servings. And with the entrée you also get potatoes, veggies and a salad. I also heard a drunk guy behind me say the lobster was the best lobster he ever had. Order carefully as the serving are large! We came here on a Saturday evening and it was really busy. Expect long waits but definitely worth it.

Overall, the experience was solid. Parking is a nightmare– they open at 4:30 for dinner, and the parking lot was almost completely full at 4:40– no exaggeration. It felt like Black Friday shopping parking at the outlets where people were just following you to your car. Granted, it was Labor Day Weekend. We started with Cape May Salts– their own oysters on a half-shell and the quality and freshness was great. The Clam Chowder was packed with clam and also very tasty– not too buttery or too heavy on the cream. We split the Lobster House Specialty– linguine with shrimp, lobster tail and scallop. The dish was OK, pasta was a little overcooked, but portion was generous on the seafood. I thought the sauce was a little bland. We also got the Broiled Fisherman’s Wharf Platter– half 1-pound lobster with crabmeat, flounder, scallops, stuffed shrimp and clam casino: all very fresh. The entrees come with a side salad. The onion and poppy seed bread is given at the start, and it comes piping hot! Beware though– no refills on soft drinks! Service was attentive and efficient.

Tonight was our second time at the Lobster House in the past few years. I’m tired tonight so I’m doing this in list form: The Good: –We were seated immediately even thought it was very busy and we had a party of six. –It’s a huge place so lots of seating options. –Great views. –The lobster bisque! –Relatively reasonable pricing. The Not-So-Good: –The parking lot is somewhat of a nightmare. –No free refills on sodas. –Food is kind of «eh» for the most part. Like, it’s good — but not AMAZING. –The bathrooms upstairs were dirty. I think this place could really take on new life if it was seriously renovated. Because of the sheer foot traffic and its size, it’s becoming kind of dingy. A makeover may be in order!

I have three members of my family that do not eat fish, but last night two of my non fish eaters said I love that place and can’t wait to go back. For all of you land lubbers the chicken franchase is the best we ever had. But I will still have to mention my 1lb lobster tail that was like eating cotton candy with their signature brown butter. HOLYCOWTHATWASAWSOME!!!

This review is for the Raw Bar, although recent experiences at their other restaurants has been similar. I have been coming to the Lobster House almost my entire life. We were so disappointed in our meal. The last several years the food overall just isn’t as good as it used to be. Hubby ordered the crab soup and onion rings, and I had the crab soup with a half dozen clams on the half shell. The soup was pasty and too salty, and even had yucky pasty clumps in it. The onion rings had way too much breading, and many weren’t even cooked all the way through. The clams were fresh and tasty, but whoever opened them left plenty of bits of shell in them, and the clams we’re still attached to the shells, making it a struggle to eat them, especially with a plastic fork. Recommendation: buy your seafood at their market, then take it home and cook it yourself. Don’t waste your money at their restaurants.

3 years later, and everything remains true. I’ve never eaten in the dining room, and the pier experience can be frustrating, but it’s great fresh seafood in a casual environment. A must visit every time we’re in the area and worth a trip for anyone planning a trip to the south end of the shore.

Good, plain seafood with dockside seating. Not cheap and lines can be long, so plan your visit carefully. A Cape May institution, but not one of the many innivative spots in town.

Haven’t been to the lobster house in years, frankly I like to avoid the tourist trap. The group we were with insisted on going here. Exactly the same as I remember. The food is very average, but saying this to myself before going in my expectations weren’t high. Most of our group ordered fish and were pleased. I had sautéed scallops which where good. Like I said tourist trap! Servers were very nice. We sat in the dinning room. Nothing special but nothing wonderful either. I will let you in on a secret, if you don’t mind sitting at a counter there is a small restaurant to the right of the main restaurant. You can order off the same menu.

This is a classic east coast lobster house. It was probably considered to be high-end and fancy about 40 years ago, but the space looks dated by today’s standards. The bar area reminds me of the 70s! But I love that they restaurant embraces it’s past, even posting a great selection of old photos & old menus(who knew you could ever get a whole lobster for $ 3.75?!). I tried the New England clam chowder, which was rich & creamy. Not the best I’ve every had, but very satisfying. My entrée was a stuffed cod dish, which was a bit of a disappointment. Overall, this is not the best place to go for seafood, but it’s a Cape May tradition that should be tried at least once.

As a kid, my family would always visit Wildwood(and later Cape May) each summer. The Lobster House was a yearly tradition. Back then, I liked fish and I believe I also enjoyed the menu offerings here. I remember this place as being our«splurgey» spot. Then I got a little older and stopped here for my 18th birthday with a group of friends. I remember I ordered chicken fingers(now a children’s menu option!) and didn’t think they were that great. Apparently, that visit and the [fairly major] point that I’m not a seafood fan kept me away from this restaurant until this past weekend. Stopped in with a couple Unilocalers and sat out on the deck area. While it was nice out there(albeit a bit chilly), I wouldn’t sit there again. I’d rather risk the long wait inside. Why? Well, you hunt for a table. After that, one of you guards the table while the others go to order their food. All the while, an announcer lists off numbers over a loud speaker. I couldn’t stop focusing on the numbers being read off and found it super annoying. Whenever I had to get up, it seemed like a narrow space too. I always felt like I was in the way of other people. Maybe that was just because it was the weekend and summer, though. As for the meal, since I don’t eat seafood, I ordered the fried chicken and fries. It was okay. Cheap, so that was nice. Nothing spectacular. I heard similar opinions from the fish-eating Unilocalers. This was overall an average meal and I don’t see myself heading back any time soon.

Just a friendly warning that this place is busy and you will have to wait for a table, BUT it’s definitely worth the wait! We started our lunch with a bowl of fisherman’s wharf clam chowder and the lobster house combo. The clams in the chowder were large and succulent and the flavors were spot on. The oyster and clam sampler(lobster house combo) was simply divine! The complimentary house bread tastes just like an everything bagel. Delish! For our meal, I had a cheeseburger with a side salad and my husband had the stuffed lobster salad. Even though it was just another ordinary cheeseburger, the one here was cooked perfectly and came out deliciously hot. I judge a restaurant by its ranch dressing and this place definitely makes theres in house which deserves 5 stars on its own. :) I’m not crazy about cold lobster salad so I didn’t taste it. My husband had no complaints with his dish so it must have been tasty and to his liking. Our server was amazing and definitely attentive. I can’t remember her name, but will definitely be seeking her out when we return.

Nous cherchions un endroit où manger du homard à prix raisonnable: nous n’avons pas été déçus! Le cadre est magnifique, les serveurs sont adorables, les plats sont parfaits! Un vrai plaisir pour notre première soirée à Cape May
