Thanks to the inability of the waitress and bartender to keep track of my tab and what I had already paid for, I had to pay an extra $ 7 for two drinks that I’d already paid for earlier on. On top of that, the waitress disrespectfully insisted that she was right and I was wrong, even after I had shown her a receipt proving that the drinks were already paid for. Also, it was borderline impossible to get the bartender’s attention, despite there being no more than maybe 10 people at the bar. Good food, good drink selection, awful customer service.

I really wanted to like this place. My wife had been talking the amazing food and service ever since we began dating. Yesterday we found ourselves in the area and decided to treat our little family. When we got there, it seemed promising. It was clean and relatively quiet. It kind of went downhill from there. Although we were clearly seen when we walked in by both the bartender and the server, we were neither greeted nor seated, and so we had to grab our own table and a high chair for our daughter. After we got ourselves settled, our server came over and took our order with the air that we were desperately inconveniencing him, which was somewhat odd, since we were one of only two tables at the time. From there out, everything was a mix of good and bad. The burgers were cooked perfectly and seasoned well, but the bacon consisted of a single anemic slice cut in half, and there was no ketchup/mustard/etc provided. The waiter kept disappearing, and I had to get up and track him down in order to get some ketchup and a refill on the drink, as well as napkins. The homemade kettle chips were a nice idea and cooked well, yet they were entirely unsalted in any way, so they just tasted bland and disappointing. The double-cooked fries were similar, except half the fries came out tasting like old oil. All of the salt that was missing from the fries and chips seemed to have hidden itself in the ranch dressing that accompanied my daughter’s chicken tenders, which tasted like sour miracle whip and a salt lick. All in all, I’ve got very mixed feelings about this place. They know how to cook a mean burger, and portions were appropriate, but the extras were off and the service was lacking. I’d understand if the prices were a bit lower, but as they charged prices commensurate with a full-service casual restaurant, similar service was expected. If I’d order from there again, I’d either want the other server(she was very friendly, courteous, and seemed attentive to her customers), or I’d want to do a pick-up order instead.

Great local spot with plenty of brews to choose from. I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Awesome place to bring a group of friends for a night out

Old time casual bar and restaurant. A good place to get a little drunk and watch sports. No vegan food and very little vegetarian food, which is a real downer, otherwise might be there more often. Décor is a little run down and too many TV’s for me. Has a comfy feel to it and nice, friendly staff.

Just had dinner at The Candlewyck and was very disappointed. The tomato bisque soup which used to be delicious was so early as was the tenderloin stir fry. Such a shame. We’ve been going to the. Candlewyck for over 30 years. I hope this was just a bad day and not an indication of the food quality.

We ordered the wings and the zingers with the garlic hot sauce and Wyck sauce. We recommend going wings in garlic hot sauce over zingers. We also split the Firecracker shrimp which were not that spicy and too chewy so we’ll be skipping those next time and opting to try the crab dip. For our entrée, we split the Creole Lobster Mac & Cheese. What it lacked in presentation, it did not lack in taste. We loved the lightly breaded top and it packed just enough kick. Definitely a low key atmosphere and an easy going vibe. We enjoyed the friendly neighborhood staff. We would come back.

Seems to be slipping — revamped menu but they are over reaching. Nachos a complete disaster(old chips, canned chese, canned salsa etc), service weird(hit or miss) — When I commented the nachos were not to great the server said ‚“Well they can’t be that bad your are eating them…” WUT? Yankee Pot roast(what I got) is NOT the same as Braised Short RIb(What I ordered) — I questioned the legitimacy of the mashed potatoes — they claimed they are real… I still have my doubts. Cheesesteak Eggrolls were OK, but they were cut diagonal and left under the heat lamp a little too long,

Change is sometimes good but not the changes at the candlewyck. Stop in for a couple burgers and chicken Caesar wrap. They were mediocre at best. What ever is going on in the kitchen has turned an okay place for a quick dinner into a disappointing experience. Maybe they should just stick with selling beer to go which seems to be the only thing they have got right.

Sad to say, this place has gone down hill. Have been coming here for probably more than 20 years. They changed the menu and management, but it sad to see how bad it is. Friday night at 8:00 there is no one there. Space out or app, just fries along with an entre for my husband and a pizza for me. Husband’s entre of Rib Eye was good. Pizza was undercooked and inedible. Sent it back and they scorched the top, leaving the bottom crust still inedible. Got a small apology from the«manager: and taken off the bill. It’s a pizza, cannot believe they didn’t remake this. They just reheated it. Watched a few other tables sending food back. With no one there, would have thought this should be a wake up call. Wonder why it is empty. Will be quite a while before we go back. Sad that such a long institution has fallen so far

Guess what? Change isn’t always a good thing. First of all, the Candlewyk use to have the best wings around. Well in plain English, they suck now. The so called ‘hot’ sauce is less than mild and there is barely any on the wings. They used to be coated, delicious, and messy, how wings are suppose to be. When I came here for the first time a year or two ago, I ordered a chicken cheese steak, it was great. Well I ordered a buffalo chicken steak tonight and it was awful. The chicken was in large cubes like it should be on a salad and the ‘buffalo’ part was just some sauce thrown on at the end. The chicken should be chipped. There was way too much cheese to the point where it was disgusting. The owners need to get around their heads that they do not own a fancy five star restaurant. No one who comes to the Candlewyk expects fancy, expensive, food. The wyck is a PUB! Burgers, cheesesteaks, sandwiches, the menu is too large as it is now, and the quality is suffering. The staff is awesome and sadly they are riding the storm as the wyck goes through a devastating patch of so called ‘exciting change’ Go back to the old way of things and I assure you no one will be disappointed. Just read some of your Unilocal and Facebook reviews and you will see I’m not the only one.

Honest review. Burgers are always burnt on one side raw on the other. Every single time. Pizza is bland and sandwiches are just OK. Wings are the best around hands down.

Had been wanting to check this place out. Stopped by for a beer and perhaps something to eat the other day after work. The Candlewyck left no impression on me whatsoever, other than its definitely not the place for me. The tap selection was mediocre. Service was mediocre. Ambiance was dreary. Wasn’t feeling brave enough to try the food menu for fear that almost everything came off a freezer truck. It seems to me it’s just a tired old dive bar.

Waitress took our order than disappeared. Never checked how our food was or if we needed more water. The not asking for the water was the worst. We had hot wings as an app so we gulped down the water. When our food came we were out we were out of water totally. We stopped eating till we got more water. Fifteen minutes without touching our food and looking pissed and no water. Finally the bartender walked over and asked if we’d like refills. The waitress is the reason we haven’t gone back to the Wyck.

Good deli, plenty of seating and food options. I have not sat in on the bar side only on the casual take out side of the restaurant. The fried chicken is really good and always available in a display case. They have a huge selection of take out beer.(domestic, import, micro brew, and craft beer) If your a beer conosour this should be your take out spot.

The more things change the worse things get. Beer selection remains solid but does not turn over fast enough. Food has gone down hill. Ordered a shrimp appetizer for 9.25 and got mine breaded frozen shrimp that had been run through the fryer and drowned in some Sysco sauce. Very poor value!

This place is about as close to a dive bar in the area that one can hope for. That is to say one only has to speak a bit of German or Middle English to order a beer at the Candlewyck. Still, when in Rome, on in this case New Hope. I ordered a Founder’s, specifically an ale that the company felt compelled to attach a dirty word to that I won’t repeat here. It was very good. It had a malty taste, thick mouth feel, and a finish that was clean and smoky all at once. The $ 5.50 they charged felt like just the right price for it. I haven’t written a scathing review in a while, so maybe I subconsciously ordered something I wanted to be subpar: pizza. It turned out to be anything but. It was just a touch underdone, which I like, and reminded me of old school pizzeria pie. The selection for toppings wasn’t great, but the Candlewyck is a bar and their menu seemed more focus on specialty pizza anyway. But there was just the right hint of sauce, grease, and the cheese was second to none. The two slices I ordered had little to no structural integrity, but I’ve never minded having to resort to a knife and fork with pizza. In this case, it elicited some giggles and looks from my fellow patrons. A word about those patrons, and the atmosphere. The Candlewyck may have been seduced by the vaping and beer snob craze that inhabits New Hope, but it’s still just a bar. Eagles posters and televisions all over the walls. There was nary a hipster in sight, which I think we can all agree is a good thing. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised, and will definitely go there again.

Oh Boy! We’ve been«regulars» for years(my editor-in-chief wants this to read decades). The service has historically been great … Note the qualifier,“historically”. Not too long ago– some moron… decided to mess with a formula that worked. Today is a sad day for me and my wife. It is the last day we will keep the«Wyck» in our rotation.(To be replaced by Giovanni’s — see review) Here’s a news flash — forget square plates, heavy silverware, gourmet burgers… Etc. What happened to cheese steaks wings and pizza at reasonable prices with good quality??? Where did the Nachos go guys? Lost are the meatball Parm Sandwiches. Replaced by Tostitos and Flatbreads. While I’m bitching… What happened to the old bartenders and the local«pub» feel? Whilst I waited for the«do-over» on my pizza that was soggy, I fumed and my stomach made the noises of a hundred angry women. Alas, the do-over hath arrived… And it is as the pizza of old — twas — crisp and well made.(Is there an «A» team and a «B» team back in the kitchen?). We are in transition here — a lesson to be learned is,“be who you are and accept yourself for your warts and all — the Wyck decided on plastic surgery and now we are all missing the warts. One last note: I haven’t brashly run off and chastised the Wyck, in fact my tongue was held for several visits(ok a dozen) following the«image» change. Now that is is clear that my old comfortable friend the«Wyck» is gone I am sad — so sad — and I sit here wondering if this is progress. To Hell with progress!
