Wish I would’ve seen these reviews prior to coming here with a Groupon. This place is so disgustingly dirty — I am shocked that no one in my group got sick!!! How can nothing have been improved here after years of the same complaints — sub par desserts, no napkins(only tissues), unsanitary atmosphere, and strange behavior from employees. avoid!!!

Delicious! Cupcakes in a milk shake, with ice cream, or just with frosting. The owner was so nice and gave great free samples. I’m having my 35th birthday party here!

Horrible, horrible place! Not only was the place a bit grubby looking, but the cupcakes were not good. My daughter got chocolate that she customized. I got a red velvet one, that had NOTASTE to it. Sure, it was moist, but all I could taste was the oily frosting. I didn’t even finish the cupcake, after two bites I threw it away. Add to that, I felt sick about 20 min later, my daughter ALSO got sick. I would AVOID this place unless you have a need of a colonic!

We went yesterday and the place was super busy. The flow of the place is confusing and in my opinion they are trying to do too much. Keep it simple! The restaurant was also dirty and they didn’t have napkins. The cupcakes were horrible. I didn’t care for the frosting at all.

Great service and we went late on a Sunday. Cupcake was still fresh and moist. Will be returning.

Great place to take your kids! They are very kid-friendly and have tables for them that are their height. They also have some games you can play with them there as well as plenty of yummy cupcakes, and what’s best is you can even design your own, by choosing a cupcake and selecting the icing and choosing from various toppings. It’s not expensive either, just $ 3 to design your own cupcake, or just under $ 3 to choose a ready made one. If you buy 5, you get the 6th free. It’s a great deal! We did so and ate all 6 in 2 days. They are very moist and tasty. Here is the link to their site for more information and pictures:

Awesome place, cupcakes were awesome. They had a huge variety and of cupcakes including blending abd ice cream mixes(which I personally never thought of). The man working there was extremely nice and they even had toys there in the shop for my kids. A good experience all around

I had some time to kill while I waited for my phone to get fixed a few stores down, and I also 2 ultra antsy kids with me. Cupcakeologist saved the day. They young lady at the desk was extra nice, gave us the rundown with gusto, and even gave us some milkshake samples to try. My kids got vanilla ice cream on vanilla cupcakes with whipped cream and all sorts of toppings. I had a vanilla cupcake iced latte. It had sprinkles. Everything should have sprinkles. This shop is decorated adorably. They had games for the kids to play, photo booth props, and all sorts of cute knick knacks. It was a great way to kill some time, but we’ll be back when we’re in the area.

This was aweful! The service was not good. The place was filthy and run down. I regret buying my kids dessert here. I can’t believe that the health department hasn’t come in and done something about it. There were no trash cans and they had tissue boxes on the tables in lue of napkins.

Well, the drive by made me turn around and check it out. Once in side the overly friendly sales man welcoming was a bit much. Still we bought a few items. As we waited for the order, we were looking around and noticed that the inside wasn’t very appealing deco wise or cleanness.. Shake and cupcakes were good though. Also the man over charged me by about 5 bucks. I used my credit card and soon as the receipt printed and I signed it he said you have your cupcake with ice cream right. I said no, never ordered that and he said oh must of been the other guy and immediately gave me 5 bucks cash back even though I used my card. I don’t know why but seemed very fishy to me. Anyways will never go back mostly cause it was dirty and won’t recommend this place.

I took my 3 children to Cupcakeologist today after purchasing a Groupon. Not only was I not impressed neither were they. They microwaved our cupcakes, which then became hard and the toppings were either hard(stale) or melted due to how hot it was in the store. In addition to my disappointment in the cupcakes/toppings was my disappointment in the store itself. The store is DIRTY(or gives you a dirty feel), when I took my kids to the bathroom I was completely disgusted it was filthy. I would not recommend this place to anyone… even with the Groupon $ 20 is way too much for what we got. I really liked the idea of this place, but it was very disappointing.

So I decided to try this place for the first time today. It is my daughter’s 9th birthday. The hours on the door say they open at 11AM. At 11AM they were not open. So I called at 11:05AM. The gentleman answered the phone and said to give him five minutes and sorry. It was now 11:12 and they were not open yet. Now, I understand this is a first world problem. However, when you are on a time schedule, it stinks. They are located in Bolingbrook and I had to be in Glen Ellyn at 11:30AM with these cupcakes to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Well, needless to say, I waited till 11:15am and they still were not open. So I had to leave and I showed up to the celebration without any cupcakes! People want us to buy local however it’s very hard when you can’t rely on a business to be open when they say they will be open. Shame on cupcakeologist are spoiling my daughter’s birthday!

The worst!!! I can’t even put into words what my experience was like let alone the flavor of the cupcake. Don’t waste your money… cute idea but geez make it taste good at least!

Really cool and friendly place with a creative concept. The woman/owner of the place was the absolutely nicest person I ever met behind the a counter. She welcomed us with a warm and loud«help there! Is this your first time?» She explained things so nicely and was more than super glad to repeat the explanation over and over again as more people walked in. Here’s the concept: you pick a cupcake and then a ice cream and then the toppings(think gummy worms, oreos, etc) and whether you want it to be a shake or sundae. They also had specialty cupcakes behind the counter like valentines cupcakes. The owner was even more than happy to make samples for all of us to try. The one thing I wish she was more diligent about is good allergies. I have a tree nut good allergy and if I didn’t ask her about whether there are nuts in the sample I would be none the wiser. Anyways I went with the vanilla cupcake, vanilla ice cream in a sundae. Toppings were twix, oreos, and of course, Reese’s peanut butter mini cups. Between Jen and i’s two sundaes, it was about $ 9… Not too bad, for a cool foodie experience. BATHROOMREVIEW: nice and clean bathrooms with ample paper towels and bright. The toilet looked pretty clean and well kept. Sit or squat? Sit!

The +1 suggested a post-dinner froyo the other night. We consulted our Unilocal app and decided to step outside of our comfort zone at «this cupcake place.» How cute and kitschy! Colorful, lots to look at, and kid/family friendly. The owner/creator of this cupcake creation goodness was super friendly and perky and explained the options to every patron, all the while dishing out shake samples. The peanut butter was soooo peanut buttery! We each got the Sundae Experiment: Chocolate cupcake with choco ice cream(for me) and vanilla/vanilla for him. We added our 3 toppings — mostly pieces of candy bars or cookies: Kit Kat, Oreo, Butterfinger… The damage was $ 9 for both of us. IMO a bit much. It was good and hit the spot! The only thing that would have made it better was if the cupcakes used were frosted… but then again, that’s probably just my sweet tooth talking. ;) Definitely a unique sweet treat to try at least once.

Buyer BEWARE! If you purchase a certificate through or other offers– they upcharge the cupcakes, and then give you a ridiculous explanation. Couldn’t tell you if the cupcakes were bad because i never got them, but the took my 10.00 certificate I paid for. What a poor way to encourage new customers. I wouldn’t want to do business with them again. So much for supporting small business in that side of town! Number 1 business to fail– get your customer service skills down!!!

Stumbled upon here when looking for an «emergency» thank-you treat for a colleague. I didn’t want to go to the local grocery store for cupcakes and all of the local bakeries were closed. Enter — Cupcakeologist An interesting motif. Great selection of cakes. You can even build your own cupcake. They also make milkshake cupcakes(they literally put a cupcake in a blender with ice cream) for your enjoyment. I’ve only been brave enough to try the Red Velvet and Banana cupcakes. They were good. My colleague raved about the Oreo cupcake. A fun place to try, a little kitchy but why not experience it at least once?

So my husband decided to surprise me with a dozen red velvet cupcakes when I came home from work(I LOVERV). I was super excited when I saw them in the fridge! I took one out and let it reach room temp.(about 20 mins) and dove right in. That’s when the disappointment sunk in. 1. Cupcakes where very dense and didn’t seem fresh baked ATALL. 2. Cream cheese frosting seemed like pure cream cheese. 3. Cupcakes had hardly any flavor at all. So now I have a dozen minus 1RV cupcakes in the fridge. I figured ah oh well I will eat 1 a day and send some to my mother in law and sis in law who also love RV cake. Later on in the day… REALLY bad pains in my stomach and off to the wash room… no need to say any more. Didn’t think it was from the cupcakes but Day 2 and Day 3 same thing. Horrible pains and off to the washroom. Sorry if this sounds disgusting but I have never had a RV cupcake that worked my system like these did! I felt they baked them with laxatives! My sister in law couldn’t even get past 1 bite. She tossed it away and said they were horrible. But hubby still gets A++ for effort, what a sweet darling he is! All in all… I have had WAY better, and to be honest, the RV cakes I get from Walgreen’s taste 50x better, so needless to say, I won’t be having cupcakes from this place again.

If Unilocal allowed half stars I would rate Cupcakeologist as 3.5 rather than the 3 stars I gave it. Here goes why! Service: 4.5 stars! — Owner(I presume) was super friendly when my friend and I walked in 30 min before closing — He explained the whole concept of creating your own cupcake, cupcake shake, or just buying a premade one — I was given a free cupcake because he said my 3 cupcakes looked sad in the box which was meant for 4 cupcakes Cupcakes: 3 stars — The cupcakes weren’t bad per se but they definitely didn’t wow me — All of the cupcakes are filled but there’s barely any filling and the cake itself doesn’t have too much flavor — They frosted the cupcakes based on which ones we ordered on the spot but they frosted them while the cake part was still warm. which meant the frosting started to melt Décor: 1.5 — The shop is decorated in a very childish manner. I’m not sure if that is the clientele they are aiming for but if so then they hit the nail on the head All in all, it’s worth a try if you’re in the area and craving something sweet but I definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to come here.
