Was looking for a new breakfast place, as we ALWAYS go to the Old West Café and wanted something closer. Looked to Unilocal and found this places. Not sure what the hype is about, as this place is disgusting. Sure they have cheap prices and and friendly customer service, but this doesn’t make up for the quality of food. It is tasteless and so disappointing. Sorry, as I feel the owners really try, but my 8 year year old niece could have literally made a better meal. Guess I will just be driving a little further for breakfast… you get what you pay for.

We are regular weekenders at Buttermilk and it is a good experience every time. The staff is friendly and are very welcoming. We were greeted as regulars on our second visit. I’ve had many of their menu items and my favorite is the chicken fried steak sandwich for lunch, and basic eggs and bacon for breakfast. Their food is always cooked deliciously and their biscuits are great! If you are looking for that go to breakfast place this is your place! Their food is yummy and their prices are low.

The handwriting is on the wall that the Buttermilk is already on it’s way to being history. It’s on it’s 3rd owner since it started up back in ’10, and this one thinks it’s going to be a cash cow. From the moment they took over, changes started happening that involve take-backs from the customer, fees for things that are customarily free, and portion reductions on many items. In summary the value has begun to slip away already and that’s a recipe for bankruptcy in the restaurant business. Immediately they started charging $ 0.75 for using a payment card under $ 5.00. They decided to take back the toppings from the oatmeal(a bowl of oatmeal with nothing on it is not very appetizing.) They no longer accept the Press Pass card, which was never previously honored at the 20% it’s supposed to be. And, they immediately refused to honor valid coupons for no valid reason. In short, they are trying to get rich by nickel and dime’ing the customer into the grave. More importantly, the take backs are showing up in the food. There hasn’t been any artificial sweetener on the tables since this owner took over. Sugar nor saccharine is acceptable, and this leaves the coffee not tasting good. When they ran out of Smuckers brand jams and jellies, first they were left empty. Later on they would be replaced with the lowest grade rubbish available from the catalog. When your customer begins to taste the difference, you are in big trouble. And, the new owners certainly are not restaurateurs, or they would know that a profitable restaurant is an extremely fragile thing. If you mess with it, or start taking things back you will start a race to the grave that nobody can stop. Without the discounts, and with the take-backs, many other brands look better at meal time. And, personally, I’m already moving my daily breakfast business to other brands because coffee just doesn’t taste good without Splenda™. Presently, the Buttermilk is on a fast path to the grave. The present owners are going to milk it into the ground. Unless something miraculous happens, I’ll give it 36 months until it is boarded up again. And, in that 36 months I’m already committed to take the most of my regular business elsewhere.(Ihop gives 20% press pass) I’m not willing to prolong the insanity by continuing to trade with them. The quicker it dies, the quicker another operator can come in there and re-start it the right way.

Ordered breakfast this morning everything came out fast and the waitress was very friendly! The only issue I had was the manager! I received my egg plate and after two bites I noticed a hair in my eggs. I ask the waitress if she could just take it off I didn’t want it any more due to the hair in my eggs. Shortly after she brought the check and I was still charged for something I didn’t eat. I ask to speak with the manager and a little Asian lady came out and ask if I had a problem? I told her I was charge for the breakfast even after I sent it back and didn’t eat due to the hair! She told me that wasn’t a hair it was from the butter brush that’s why I was charged ! Never will return! Thanks for a horrible experience! The restaurant needs an update along with the manager!

This place is packed during breakfast hours every weekend. I have had good service early hours but seems the later you go the worse it gets. The portion sizes were good, but the dessert has been consistently terrible and over-priced.

Absolutely love this place. The food is good at a great price, and the staff is friendly and kind. I frequent The Buttermilk Café because it’s close to my house, but I would recommend it to anyone who lives in the mid cities.

So sad to have to give this such a poor review. I had such high hopes based off the delicious looking photos, however I will not be back. The server forgot to put in one of three orders — yes, the 2nd order was never cooked so we were half way done before the order came out. Then they don’t understand what hard scrambled eggs are. When the server was notified they weren’t right her response«I told them to scramble hard» which isn’t the response a server should have because regardless, they weren’t right. The food was average, the lunch maybe much better than the breakfast but I will never know as I am taking this off my list of places to eat. Sorry Unilocalers, not a fan!

Huge portions at an amazing price. I ordered the three cheese omelet with home fries and a side of chocolate chip pancakes all for $ 9!!! My only critique would be that they ran out of strawberries, other than that I’d definitely stop in for breakfast again.

Absolutely the best chicken fried steak I’ve ever had. Beats mine by light years. You should also try their whipped honey butter. Spread it on a roll and you won’t need dessert.

The meatloaf is THEBEST I’ve ever had. Hands down. Their prices are SO reasonable, and our waitress was so friendly! Older-looking location; the dining room needed attention at lunch.

A very casual environment, lots of locals. The food is good, fair prices. They have new booths, which is nice. My concern, and I addressed this with the server, is bringing out our food stacked on top of each other. The bottom of the plates are in the food of the plates below them, as they line them up their arm. I refused my meal for this reason due to the potential cross contamination from counter of the food prep to our food. My food was hopefully re-prepared. The young girl acted shocked I would even say anything. Only a few moments later I saw the same staff doing it again, except this time, she had 6 plates up her arm. I find this to be a sanitary issue. Having experienced food issues before, it’s not too much to have a different system in place for serving your food. The use of trays, having multiple severs bring the food out, etc. My husband asked for his hash browns to be crispy, he asked politely, twice. They arrived raw and uncooked in the middle. He didn’t want to send them back, you know, the old spit in your food thing. I politely asked if they could crisp them up. They did. Thank you. We know you are busy and we want to support our local eateries, please be conscious of these little things. I always believe in giving a second chance. Peace.

Older facility with a down home menu. The food is fine. Husband and I both had fried chicken. It was nothing spectacular, but the price and the service made up for it. There was no wait to be seated or get out drinks. Our waitress was attentive and the other wait staff were incredibly friendly to their tables as well. Oh… And the rolls, cornbread, and honey butter… Those are worth their weight in gold. Yum. Didn’t have room for a dessert but judging by the baked breads … The other baked goods have to have been delicious as well

Our first time here! Old family style restaurant, with a home cookin’ menu. My husband had the catfish and I had the beef tips and rice. Both were cooked perfectly! The rolls and honey butter are reason enough to give this place a try! Sweet tea is Texas style and the waitress just as friendly! We will be back!

Dear Buttermilk Café Team, My Grandma owned The Pancake House in Abilene, TX. It was my home away from home while I was a kid. The chocolate milk and the table side juke boxes were my favorite! Thank you for asking. :)

A group of us 7 of us went for breakfast while in town visiting for a wedding. There was practically no wait even though the restaurant appeared to be busy. We were awkwardly seated around back with only one other diner on that entire side of the restaurant. I guess all of the diners in the front made this place appear busier than it actually was. The waitress seemed friendly and took our drink orders. When she came back to take our food orders, I asked for the Southern Scrambler(2 biscuits, stacked with scrambled eggs, hash browns, and sausage gravy). I requested to substitute the pepper gravy(I’m pescatarian) and that the eggs and hashbrowns be served on the side instead of all together. After what seemed like an eternity of confusion for this woman, I offered to order them separately if it would help. She kept saying she didn’t know how to write it down for the kitchen staff. Finally she wrote something down after I offered a second time to order everything separately. This went on for almost 5 minutes before anyone else at my table ordered. Wow. Once she made her way around and left the table, we waited… And waited… And waited on either drink refills or our actual food and nothing. In the meantime, one of the girls in our group got up to get a nearby water pitcher to refill waters. Finally our food came out and we were then able to ask for drink refills as well. The employees helping our waitress seemed frustrated. I could only assume it was with her. At this point we were all frustrated as well because several girls didn’t get all of their food and those who did got cold food. We were pressed for time or else we would have asked for hot, fresh food but at this point we were over this place. Most girls didn’t finish their breakfast and we all agreed we would not be returning.

First off, the seat had jelly and hash brown on it from prior customers. I can’t grade service too much since they were incredibly busy, but I ordered fried eggs and they came scrambled. The grits were far too chunky, and the waitress took forever to bring my father’s pancake on the side. When she brought them, they were cold as hell The waitress was nice, but that’s about it. The food was nice, but I’ll stick with Denny’s or Ihop
