Good service, good food. We went for breakfast. Food came really quickly. Tasted homemade, like Mom used to make. Pancakes were really good.

Based on the other reviews I was expecting down-home cooking and a taste of some great family recipes. I visited last weekend for breakfast and returned today for lunch and both times got meals that reminded me of a school or hospital cafeteria. My lunch today was the meatloaf special which was fairly bland, with unseasoned canned green beans, the tiniest side salad I’ve ever seen, and mashed potatoes which oddly contained absolutely no milk or butter. I think they just added water and mashed boiled potatoes. If you’re in need of a bland or low-sodium diet, this is definitely the place for you, especially if you’re on a tight budget as none of the meals are very expensive. Also, be prepared for the smoky haze in the dining room. After two visits, it’s obvious their kitchen is not very well ventilated. I will say the wait staff were extremely friendly and attentive. I’d definitely be back if the food were only a little bit better.

This diner is the best in the area! The staff is super sweet, the food is good ol’ southern comfort food! Get the breakfast special: chicken fried steak, eggs, biscuit and hash browns! Come on in for true Texas hospitality.

Wonderful cheap food! people who comes here are regular customers. Makes me feel good suppporting a non franchise joint :) I needed a big breakfast to digest before taking my antibiotics and I’ve always wanted to try this place. I came in and sat myself down. This bubbly waitress appeared took my drink order and food. I went with a short stack of two pancakes and bacon. They don’t give you two strips of bacon here… they give you four with two BIG stack of pancakes! all for $ 5!!! the pancakes were delicious and bacon wasnt thick cut but they gave me four so hooray!

Great old school café/diner filled with old locals. This place has been around since the 60’s. The food is simple — nothing super special — just plain simple food. Friendly service staff and easy location.

Honestly… nothing special. I can make this at home, but better… but Gloria the waitress… super sugar sweet!

Second trip in today, and, yes it is the pleasant homey atmosphere experienced before. Tried the BLT today and a pretty good sandwich it was, plenty of crisp bacon and fresh crunchy lettuce, as good a BLT as you will find. Nothing fancy but as good as it gets in the mom and pop home cooking arena.

This restaurant serves breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Friday and breakfast only on Saturday. It is the epitome of down home cooking. For breakfast I always enjoy the special and a short stack of pancakes and for lunch I’ll have the chicken fried steak or the fried shrimp. Both are very good for the price. Also worth trying are the chicken and dumplings and the chicken and dressing but you have to catch them on the daily special. Yes, there are quite a few older customers but I think that’s because the prices are reasonable, the waitresses are friendly, and the place is family owned and operated so everyone knows everyone else so there is a sense of belonging for some of those folks. I think a few customers eat two meals a day there! Anyway! I recommend this restaurant to anyone who is hungry for home cooking and a relaxed, family atmosphere. Nothing fancy, just food.

I liked it from my first visit and have been back multiple times with consistent results. Excellent food, friendly waitresses and inexpensive prices. Don’t expect anything gourmet, it’s good-people, greasy spoon. But if you’re up for a solid breakfast on red & white checkered tablecloths, with bottomless coffee that never gets cold, this is the spot. My only gripe is that their hours are rigid. No Sunday service, for example, and I always get hungry for this kind of food on Sunday mornings. Also, they aren’t open for dinner, so they close at 2 p.m., I believe. Only a breakfast and lunch place and not 7 days a week. Another review mentioned the aged clientele & it’s totally true! I happen to be a fan of anywhere that is frequented by old people, cops and firemen because they always seem to know where the good food and cheap prices are. I’ve seen all three of those groups in here. You won’t be let down. :) I suggest whatever they have on their special, the breakfast(esp the hashbrowns, biscuits and pancakes) and the cheeseburgers.

Not to make this place sound bad or anything(not that it is, I enjoyed my breakfast here), but if you are under the age of 50 then this place will be just… OK. But if you are over the age of 50 and enjoy a cozy place where you can mingle with people your age then you’ll probably enjoy this place a bit more then the younger crowd(no offense). Now to the food… First off, the hash browns are unlike any hash browns I’ve ever seen. It was like they pulverized potatoes to almost mashed consistency then cooked it on the grill. I liked it a lot and would come back for this. The rest of the food was alright, but pretty standard stuff(my omelet was a little under cooked and runny inside, but I didn’t get sick later.) The service was very friendly and comfortable. And by comfortable, I mean the waitress came up to us and asked«Have you been here before?» to which we replied«No». And her response was«So you’re both virgins?» Seriously. She repeated this at another table, so expect this response if someone asks. I personally found this entertaining and lighthearted(but you may not). Anyhow it’s certainly a senior hangout, but if you’re younger, don’t let my review discourage you from going here for a pretty decent meal.

This place is awesome. Period. It’s small-town, home-cooked breakfast and lunch, and probably some of the nicest people you’ll meet in the H/E/B area. Pretty much everything on the menu is good, prices are reasonable, and they always have a «daily special» that ends up being a nice suggestion every time. I’d say do it. You’ll be hooked!
