My grandmother was a taoist so during any festive dates, she would cook loads of food to pray to the gods. As children we always love these festive days because this is when we get to eat all her best cooking. Another reason was because she will go to the coffee shop below her house to get a whole roast duck from We Kee Roasted Delight. Being the spoiled child that I am, I will always get one of the drumstick. Recently, I went back to the coffee shop again after a hiatus of about 5 years. The taste of the duck meat has not changed much — I like how the meat is still juicy despite the skin being so crispy. The herbs give the duck a smokey, slightly salty taste. For those who do not like duck meat, there is also char siew and roasted pork belly which are both juicy and oily. The sauce is fantastic and goes very well with all three kinds of meat. While the rice is nothing to shout about(it being white rice), it is not clumpy and too wet, allowing the sauce to seep through it and flavor it well.
