Picking a hair salon/hairstylist is like picking a boyfriend. It takes a lot of effort at the start in finding the right place, continuous communication and potentially a long term commitment. I haven’t divorced my stylist though but well i’m exploring alternatives and i’ve decided to go with Silkcut Salon after trying out several hair services with them. Silkcut has been in operation since 1995. Say wert! The creative directors, Dave, Eve and Geraldine, have years of experience under their belt(but none of the age on their faces I swear). Their customers are all regulars from all over the island who come here specially for their hair services. It is almost impossible to do a walk in especially on fridays and weekends. I’ve been there on a Monday night before and it’s still crowded. It’s madness. The Silkcut experience starts with a consultation and my hair was caressed in so many ways before a treatment plan was prescribed. I have tried their Japanese Water Rebonding treatment that made my hair a lot shinier and smoother without giving it that flat ironed look. I also love their color hair treatment which is a hair treatment that adds colors to your hair. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone yea? My current favorite is the Moistcare hair treatment which gives me locks so smooth i can’t bun my hair up. They are really good with creating looks with vibrant hair colors and i’ve never been disappointed. Go check them out!

I came here on a friend’s girlfriend’s recommendation. I am pleased to say that I am extremely happy with this place. For two years, I’ve adopted a straight-cut long haired look, with a side parting. I was growing increasingly tired of it, and I explained my frustrations to the stylist. I wanted a layered look again, with a variable parting. I was also considering a perm, with big soft curls. The stylist didn’t push me for the curls, though she recommended it. During my hair cut, she mentioned she could blow dry my hair into curls so I could have a preview and decide sometime. I thought that was very nice and non-pushy of her. She really didn’t have to blow my hair into curls, because that means extra time spent. I had an awesome hair-washing experience here, where the shampoo boy actually took time to massage and wash my scalp, unlike the cursory 30 second head massages we’re used to. I was very happy with my experience here, and I am still thinking about the perm. Hmmm… P. S. I do have to caution about the prices. They may be located underneath an HDB block, but it doesn’t mean they charge HDB salon prices. Their prices are on par with mall salon prices, and I would gladly pay the $ 48 for my hair cut anytime, at Silkcut.
