They charge 15% premium for the Chinese New Year period. Quality food in a traditional setting. The fried fish were fresh and doused with a beany sauce, prepared very well. The fish maw soup is tasty, when added with vingear it reminds of shark fin soup(without the shark fins) The fried veg is excellent and well«fired», goes very well for the white steam rice.

Mu Liang Zai Liang Kee is one in a row of restaurants(mostly Chinese) along Havelock Road and so far, of the 3 – 4 I’ve tried, it’s the best. Important to note is that there are *2* Liang Kees along this stretch — the other one is «G7 Liang Kee». Given the similar names, you might suspect that there’s some history to these eating establishments. And you would be right. It involves a Taiwanese business partner and a business venture — you can read more when you visit(the Straits Times article on the door talks about this history). In any event, I prefer the food at MLK to G7(and it’s probably a smidgen cheaper too). The House Fried Rice was simple but good, with wok hei(smoky wok flavour). It had as ingredients Chinese Sausage, egg, long beans, squid, chicken and pork, i.e. leftovers. It was tasty nonetheless. The oyster omelette was fluffy, tasty and slightly crispy. It’s not from the ultra crispy school of oyster omelette making, but is still good. The Teochew Braised Duck was great. The duck was tasty; though it was a little overdone for my tastes everywhere else cooks it to a similar extent so I guess this is authentic. The accompanying tofu(of which there was an appropriate amount, putting it firmly in the Goldilocks Zone) was firm and had a good texture. The sauce was tasty yet not too salty. The claypot fish maw with sea cucumber was generous in ingredients, and had a very tasty sauce. The stir fried broccoli(with assorted ingredients) was passable, but its quality was below the other dishes. The orh née(sweet mashed yam) came with a lovely dollop pumpkin and was not dry despite not dripping with oil like that of most places yet not dry. It was both smooth and rich.
