It is a different kind of fish soup, nothing like the traditional fish soup served at Amoy market or those in foodcourts. For some reasons, I think this kind of fish soup is more palatable to the guys, judging from the proportion of guys to girls in the line. There is no choice of noodles or milk in your soup. They only do a mix of sliced fish and fried fish, served with white rice. Thus, the line though long, moves quickly. The fresh fish slices are sliced thick and very fish. These are definitely better than the fried slices. The fried slices here are what makes the difference, they are seasoned with curry powder which gives it a different level of spiciness and taste. The fried slices also tend to be random fish parts like the fishheads, fish eyes, fins etc. so if you are not into exotic fish parts, be careful before you bite into the fried pieces. Overall, an interesting bowl as I have never had this style of fish soup anywhere else in Singapore. But if you are looking for the traditional ones, this one will disappoint.

This place is a must go for me whenever I’m back in singapore visiting family. This was the first meal I had after all the bad airplane food and it tasted as good as ever. The menu is limited to a small bowl of fried and sliced fish for $ 5.50 or a large bowl for $ 7.50. The large bowl is the same size as the small bowl just packed with more fish meat. This place is popular! They open for business at around 11am and are done selling by 1 ish 2pm. So do go early! Now on to the food — the soup is delicious and not too salty. The white sliced fish is fresh smooth and well marinated. The fried fish adds variety to the dish but I prefer having just the sliced fish since the fried fish has bones in it and the frying just mask the freshness of the fish meat. The soup is also packed with cabbage which is nicely cooked — firm and not soggy. Also sometimes you get pieces of fried scrambled egg in your soup. Those are super delicious but it’s not a guaranteed fixture in the soup just depends on your luck. The chili sauce provided is very nice too. It’s similar to chicken rice sauce but spicier and with more lime. The chili sauce is very very spicy though so be warned! Best fish soup in town. Highly recommended. This place does not do take out. Ive seen people buy the meal and transferring the soup into their home brought food containers.

This place has been one of the highlights of my recent visit to Berseh Food Centre. A gem at a hidden corner. The stall is famous for its black and white fish soup, of which consists of the fried fish and sliced fish swimming together in your soup. Each bowl costs $ 4.50 or $ 7.50. Not very cheap by hawker standards. I ordered the $ 7.50 one. The sliced fish is generously given; it’s thick and a little chewy, for fish soup. Just can’t get enough of the sliced fish. The fried fish is a different story, it’s very«Cui» meaning like broken apart, the fried fish can sometimes be hard to differentiate from the tau pok. It’s probably just there for the texture and for marketing’s sake. If I had to choose again, I’d order all sliced fish soup, but there is no such option at this stall! Back to the soup, at the beginning I thought the soup was so-so but it kinda grows on you. You don’t feel thirsty so probably less MSG added. The chilli alone is worth coming for this fish soup and any other dish you bought in this food centre will taste heavenly with their specially made chilli which is just out of the world. Dip generously for the sliced fish, roll the shark’s meat(yes find the shark’s meat at another stall in this food centre!) around it and you will eat more sharks meat too(no fins sold here though). The thing I will complain the most about this stall is that it uses a slightly flimsy plastic bowl and gives you those packed chopsticks. They suck. If it’s on a real bowl it might have tasted better(psychologically definitely).
