We probably ordered a little too much for a family of 5 as we wanted to use up the $ 100 voucher we had. Xiao long baos are good. Doesn’t stick to the paper and comes with stock full of yummy soup in each bao. Skin’s a little tougher than usual xiao long baos but it’s something you can forgive because you know it helps hold the soup in. I got a bowl of spicy beef ramen. The ramen servings are huge! If you’re eating a bowl of ramen, I suggest not ordering too much dim sum or side dishes. And I suggest not getting ramen that comes with plain soup. It’s hard to gobble such huge portions of noodle with plain soup. There’s a french bean /minced meat dish that’s served with popiah skin. It’s pretty refreshing. Recommended. We also ordered a plate of spicy dumplings in vinegar. Quite a surprise, it’s one of the tasty dishes of the meal. The other dim sum we ordered were quite alright. Har gao, chicken claws, carrot cake. All in all, a filling lunch with good xiao long baos to top it off. Would order the french bean and spicy dumpling dish if I go back again.

Thumbs up to Crystal Jade for keeping up to their standards. Just like the name suggest, they are known for their scrumptious la mian and xiao long bao. They are expert at the la mian that they have so many different sizes and thickness for you to choose from. Other than those, I also love their dumplings with chilli oil(hong you chao shou). Also to our pleasant surprise, the fried rice here tastes good too! However, as much as I like the food, I don’t really like this particular outlet because it is small. I prefer the outlets at Orchard, where the seats are more spaced out and there’s more room in general.

I was disappointed when Crystal Jade Kitchen closed in Jurong Point, leaving behind just its La Mian Xiao Long bao outlet. I do prefer the variety of dishes and noodles/fried rice that CJ Kitchen offers. Not forgetting the flavorful congee. Despite that, I still frequent this place for the la mian. My personal favorites are the hot and sour Sichuan-style la mian or the stewed beef la mian. In particular, the hotness of the hot and sour gravy is great when you have a cold or blocked nose. It clears it up right away. Crystal Jade La Mian XLB is also a good choice for lunch because they have lunch specials that pairs the la mian with a side dish. I definitely prefer Crystal Jade over its competitor Din Tai Fung.

Crystal Jade is another one of my favorite restaurants with my family. We made a reservation in advance so we didn’t have to queue, but if you didn’t make a reservation, you might have to wait in line for quite some time. Service was prompt and attentive, although we didn’t exactly see any smiles from the staff. I ordered the usual stewed beef la mian, which was great as usual although I really wished for a larger serving. The beef here is always tender and flavorful, and beats the one at Mayim(in my opinion). We also ordered the usual xiao long bao, which was nice and juicy as usual. However, I do feel that the standard of the xiao long bao has dropped a little, but for some reason we still order it every time. Overall, a good place to dine with your family although the place is a little cramped and could get noisy.
