meh lunch sets at this cheaper outpost of the lauded petit salut brand in holland village. I know that lunch sets are sometimes deemed to not be accurate representations of restaurants since they cater to the value-for-money-hour-lunch crowd, but good cooking must be just that, regardless of price. this place is supposed to have decent food — and though it wasn’t bad, I doubt I’ll return.

Bistro au petit salut is a cozy little french place in Chipbee. During the weekends it can get really crowded taking away of the romantic and laid back vibes. The quality of the food at Bistro is consistent with the sister restaurant of the more high-end dining Au Petit Salut at Harding road, Dempsey. I’m thankful for the Bistro to be located at Chipbee because it offers a good alternative to the Italian dominance of Da Paolo’s and Michelangeo’s at the Chipbee strip. Especially the set Lunch is affordable and there’s a range of options you can choose from. The 3-course set lunch at $ 28++ offers a selection of 6 choices from each course . I started of with the half dozen baked Burgundy snails with tomato fondue and garlic butter which made a great appetizer with some warm bread and a glass of white burgundy. My main was«Minute» of onglet beef with French mustard jus and mashed potatoes. The mustard jus was not too overpowering and the beef was cooked to perfection. I finished off with a Chocolate and pear mousse cake, Crème Anglaise. All in all, the food is not really innovative or surprising, just consistent good quality with the set lunch giving you good value for you money.
