Laurent Bernard, chocolatier, expands into Laurent’s café. Adequately staffed, but, like most places lately, service is average. The lady serving us is friendly enough but was as confused as we were with why the 2 different menus had different items. They had a shortened brunch menu and a more extensive menu if you did not want brunch, not sure why. We came in for coffee and dessert. Ordered, coffee, the lava cake and soufflé. Is their lava cake above the many others that are available from other places? Not really, but perhaps my palette isn’t as developed. I’ve noticed price doesn’t necessary translate to quality as much anymore. They billed their soufflé as freshly baked on order and it looked like a dessert they wanted to showcase. So I ordered the Guanaja chocolate soufflé served with raspberry sherbet. They charged $ 18 for the dessert which I found steep. But if they want to charge a premium and can delivery, then I say ‘bring it on’. Unfortunately, perhaps it was a case that I didnt know my soufflés, but it failed to delivery. The soufflé did not blow my hair back. It was ok, but marred by the sherbet that arrived; mango, not the raspberry that was in the menu. There was also a choice of chocolate or vanilla sauce which I had overlooked. The problem was the server failed to mention that they had no raspberry and assumed I’d be fine with a mango sherbet. He also assumed I wanted vanilla sauce. Raspberry and chocolate in my opinion is heavenly, mango and chocolate, not so. Not much more to say, can’t really recommend this place to others. Many better options elsewhere. The premium Laurent Bernard chocolate brand has been a bit dented for me after this experience.

Came here on a rainy weekend when my date and I were looking for a nice quiet and quaint place away from the crowd to just relax, have a hot drink and forget the busy lifestyle for abit. This is the perfect place for it. It’s not that perfect if you don’t drive though. Very easy to get to if you do, just as you’re entering Portsdown Road, there’s a carpark right beside the restaurant that’s within the same vicinity of the café. The hot chocolate is as good as it gets — especially on a rainy day! You can choose to sit inside or outside by the road. There’s also space right inside thats in the open air, a very cosy space among the greenery if you’re there with a group. Most of the desserts were sold out when we came, it was near closing time, so we only had the classic hot chocolate drinks. It comes with a yummy piece of chocolate on the saucer as well. They also serve food so I might give this place another go for a quiet lazy sunday brunch sometime!

If it’s desserts and chocolate you crave, there’s no better place to go to than Laurent Bernard! I’ve had my fair share of desserts and I will stake my reputation on Laurent’s anytime. Nestled in the quiet Portsdown area, Laurent Bernard possesses a romantic and tranquil ambience that is accompanied by some of the finest soufflés and chocolates in Singapore, bar none. In fact, it’s the perfect place to bring your date to wind down the night. Service is brisk and most of the times, expect Mr. Laurent Bernard himself to be serving you. Last orders are usually an hour before closing so make sure you get there on time or you’ll miss out on the best desserts in Singapore!
