I am truly disappointed with the fried Hokkien mee here today. This used to be my ‘go to’ place for Hokkien Mee because I don’t like it very wet. Now it is not just more dry but it doesn’t taste nice. I would say it is below average. From the taste, I couldn’t even tell that it is from this well-known Hokkien Mee stall. I’m not sure what happened because it is the same cook. The only difference is a hard plastic in front of the stall because the Neighbour complained about the smell. Don’t understand why they can’t just get a better extraction hood. Anyway, I am so so disappointed. Not worth the 20 minute car ride.

This is one of the rare Hokkien mee places that still wrap their takeaways in Opeh leaves. You do have to order above five bucks I think, for a complete opeh leaf wrapper, complete with raffia string. Makes for a very fragrant and rustic meal. You ought to Google opeh leaves if you don’t know what I’m going on about. The hokkien mee here is the wet style, with a nice seafood broth, pork belly, some small prawns, and squid pieces. The chilli is soso but the skill used in frying this humble noodle is undeniable — ieatishootipost has documented this uncle’s history of frying hokkien mee. P. S. ask for extra pork lard bits to put on your noodles. At no extra charge, you’ll love it, and thank me!
