The Liffey

I normally avoid going anywhere in or around the Old Town in Stockholm since the price is normally more than its worth. But since we were going to go a Christmas dinner just around the corner, my husband and I decided to wait for our friends here.
It was 6pm when we went in, it was not very full so we got ourselves a booth close to the stage. We ordered some beers, sat in our booth while we waited for our friends. In the background we could hear some music playing, andit was so pleasant that it wasn’t new music that teenagers are listening to nowadays. We stayed there for around 1,5 hours and we left for our dinner.
That wasn’t the end of the night at Liffey though, because right after our dinner we went right back. The time then was 10.30pm and it wasn’t a surprise that the pub was now full and there was no free table or booth in sight. Well, no worries, because we had a good time standing there, listening to the live music and had actually a hard time picking whiskey for ourselves since they had quite a collection there. In the end, we settled for some Laphroaig and Ardberg. After standing there for a while without no success of getting a table/​booth while the pub was getting more and more crowd, we headed downstairs to the valve where they played music from the good ol’ 1980s. It was very pleasant although we were a bit bummed for not being able to stay upstairs and listen to the live music.
Well, lessons learned. Next time we’d come at 6pm and wouldn’t leave anywhere for the rest of the night.

Went there a couple of times with friends, either for dinner or just for a beer or two (or 5).
The place is really big, there’s a gig area on the main floor with tables to drink or eat, a bit loud if you want to actually talk with your friends, and a whole area downstairs that is way more quiet, with the same great selection of beers and food.
Had the burger of the day, with chicken bacon and cheese, really tasty, and the waiter was really nice and patient with us («I want the avocado burger but without avocado and without onion but plus cheese and bacon»).

I’ve been here a few different times now, mostly to check out the live music. I don’t really get the draw to this place as a whole. It’s not very well setup as a pub — Wirströms down the street is much better both for meeting people and for more consistently good music (but very difficult to dance or even see the band there). The Liffey can have good music though, so it’s worth checking out. It also draws in a generally larger number of 20-​somethings than Wirströms. The service isn’t particularly friendly in my experience and if it weren’t for the live music there would be no real reason to come here as opposed to any other dive bar with much cheaper beer.
I recommend you check out the live music and I’ll surely be back again in the future but there’s nothing special happening here from what I can see.

A great place with really cool LIVE music after 21:30 all up until 00:00! The live music varies from avicii to the eagles.
The bartenders are experienced and really helpful! Overall this is a great music bar and a must-​see for everyone searching for nightlife in stockholm!

Was in Stockholm on business during the early stages of the World Cup, and my Irish colleague recommended The Liffey for both atmosphere and food. Happy to report he was right. The atmosphere was great for a World Cup match, with the place filling up starting around 5 minutes prior to kickoff. The beer selection is decent, featuring Scandinavian and German options as well as the expected Guinness. My fish’n’chips were very good (nice filet, crunchy crust, not greasy, over proper chips), and my colleague reported his sirloin and potatoes as being quite good as well. Service was slow, but the servers and bar tenders were all quite friendly. Great location in Gamla Stan, which made for a nice mid-​summer evening walk back to the hotel.

I like the combination of pub upstairs and lounge downstairs and of course you can watched the game!!!

I had a bad experience, but the chef was really prompt. I will consider this place again for food…

The Liffey gets recommended a lot on trip advisor for their fish n chips, but we went here after dinner on a Saturday to hear the band play.
It took AGES to get a drink (come on, how can two girls at the bar get ignored for 10 mins?!) the house gin is disgusting (and I paid $ 18!) but my friend loved her Magners cider. The band played mostly cover songs from the 80’s and 90’s and who doesn’t love that? =)
The pub has more of a restaurant feel than an after dinner hangout. If you want to hear a great band for free, go to Winstroms Pub instead!

Same in late at night to check out the band. The crowd seemed decent, but the band was a one woman show playing chick tunes on her guitar. It wasn’t ideal to say the least. Had a couple beers here, the beer is decent, but the lines could use a cleaning. Wouldn’t come back, aside from serving later than other spots in the area.

Nice relaxed place! Maybe a little bit more a restaurant than a pub because most tables are for dining guests only. That is a shame.
They have a good selection of beer and I found Magners cider here! Not to be found everywhere.
Unfortunately no AMEX accepted, still we went here twice on a three days stay.

The food was great. The service is typical euro service but order your drinks early before your next one runs out. I recommend the meatball dish, it was delicious! They also have Mgners cider here!

Ich war hier zu Halloween und es war super! Guinness schwedentypische 66 SKR und eine sehr freundliche Bedienung. Zu den Speisen kann ich nichts sagen, da wir hier nur zum Vorglühen waren bevor es dann weiterging. Das Publikum war sehr durchmischt und bestand gefühlt zur Hälfte aus Einheimischen.
