Very decent property, courteous staff. Rooms are cozy and quaint; the colors of the wallpaper and drapes and cheerful. The hotel breakfast is a must for first time Nordic visitors. That it’s positioned along the city’s main strip makes for dining options aplenty. A further walk down one will find bars and clubs that open, on weekdays, at 2AM. That’s how the Swedes roll, apparently. Save yourself the taxis ride: the train station to Arland airport is just ten to fifteen minutes walk away.

My family and I have been staying at the Hotel Kung Karl for years, and it is always a wonderful experience. The rooms are charming and well kept, service is always friendly and helpful, and the breakfast in the restaurant downstairs is absolutely the best. Also of interest are their family rooms, which if you are familiar with traveling in Europe, are not always available at other hotels. The family rooms have bunk beds and additional bed which can accommodate 4 easily, and can be added to with an additional bed on request. The hotel sits in a prime downtown location just next the Stureplan for shopping, restaurants, and cafés. Definitely recommended if you are looking for somewhere to stay in Stockholm.

My cousin, who had taken the trip from LA, and I had travelled to Stockholm from Gothenburg for a short sightseeing trip. We decided to stay at the Kung Carl hotel because my American cousin likes it to be a bit luxurious without being exceedingly expensive. The location was very good, and the building was charming while at the same time having a fresh feel to it. The ladies at the reception were friendly, but at times seemed more occupied with talking to other customers on the phone, than helping those waiting at the counter. One of the worst things about our stay was the ridicolusly unstable internet connection. The signal varied a lot just by where you stood in the room. Connecting via a phone or tablet caused the connection to go offline anytime you would lock the screen, forcing you to type in the code you recieved at the reception every other minute. For my cousin trying to stay in touch with his family back home this was especially annoying. The room itself was beautiful, and the bed was good to sleep in, but the little things annoy you when you know it’s a expensive hotel. The remote had no batteries, the main lightbulb was missing from the light and the personell at the breakfast were a little edgy. They definetly didn’t help the next day get off to a good start. All in all we had a good stay, but I’d expect more from a 4 star hotel.
