We’ve had a really amazing experience dining at Aifur. We ran into this place without reservations on a busy weekend night in the old town. We had no idea what to expect, so we were really surprised by exotic Viking theme. The place is underground, it’s dark and creepy with long tables and benches covered with sheep skin. The walls are decorated with weapons and art. The long bearded waiters in medieval costumes are super friendly and accommodating. The food is served with forged medieval utensils which are impossible to use, you are better off eating with your hands, but it doesn’t matter because they look very realistic. The food was amazing — we all ordered rack of lamb and it was delicious. This isn’t the best place for a romantic dinner because the place is loud with live music playing and all guests getting announced at entrance. You also are very likely to share a huge table with a bunch of strangers. However, if you are looking for extraordinary dining experience, Aifur is a must. We learned later that they take reservations, so be sure to book it — you won’t regret it.

Cool experience. A very touristy thing to do. The food wasn’t all that great. But I think most are okay with that as they want to say, «yeah I went to that Viking place.» It’s understandable as I am happy to start a conversation talking about this place with people who have been before. I had the mead, and it was way too sweet for me. First time having mead so I’m not sure if they all taste like that, but it wasn’t for me. I switched to a Porter and it was much better! In the end, I had a decent experience. Not the best food, but again, that’s not why you’re going there. Enjoy it for what it is.

Really nice experience, prices are decent, a bit above the average, but not much. Food was delicious, and I strongly recommend mead as a drink, it’s so tasty and rich, quite sweet, a lovely alternative for wine. The atmosphere is also special, with live music. Can’t wait to go back with friends from the UK and Romania!

Aifur is a lot of fun! Yes, it’s touristy, but being a tourist and someone who has a love for Viking history and culture, I was all about the place. Unfortunately, we had dinner reservations elsewhere, so I didn’t get to try the food, but it’s totally worth making the time to at least stop in for a drink. You really feel like you’re in a Viking mead hall(or so I would guess, having never actually been in a Viking mead hall before my visit). The whole area is pretty much lit only by candle and firelight, all of the staff are in Viking attire, the seats are covered in «animal pelts», and the drinks are served in period-appropriate vessels.(A tankard for my husband’s ale, and a clay goblet for my wine). It’s a popular place, and does get quite crowded — we stopped in on a rainy, chilly evening and after a bit of standing around were able to snag a pelt covered bench in the bar area, overlooking the diners in the mead hall. There was live Medieval/Viking music being played on some very interesting instruments while we were there, and all of the diners seemed to be having a great time, as the atmosphere was loud and boisterous. There was a wait for dinner, and as parties arrived and were being seated, they were announced as «Jarl Smith from Iowa»(or whatever), and hailed in proper Viking Mead Hall fashion by the other diners. It was entertaining to witness, that’s for sure. Aifur is an experience. It’s touristy, loud, dark… and fun! If you have ever wanted to take a little trip back in time to see how the Vikings may have lived, or just try something new and different, it’s worth a visit. I would definitely go back for some mead and carousing, and would love to try the food next time.

Holy moly, entrance was very hard to find! I felt like I was at diagon alley, tapping on bricks until I saw butterbeer and people with pointy hats. If you’re going down a sketch alley that smells slightly off pee, you’re on the right path. They certainly did the Vikings theme well. The waiters dressed in «Vikings attire», the tables, the seating, all of it. The bartender was helpful. Given, I had no stinkin’ idea what he was recommending to me(it sounded like gibberish). I’m going to put this one down in the books as «experiencing a Vikings themed bar» rather than«pretending to be a mead connoisseur,» so on that criteria, thumbs up! Most meads were ~90SEK(~11USD)

This place is all about the experience! Worth dining like a Viking for an evening even if the food isn’t 5 stars.

Loved this place! One of the days I went to Aifur, they had live medieval/folk music! The mead is just a perfect drink at the end of the day… But it has to be really cold and the last time I went there it was not cold :( The seating at the bar is not ideal(or maybe the space should just be bigger) as many times there is no place to sit — crowded. The staff is friendly and they make you feel part of the bar. I still haven’t tried the restaurant but it’s on my list.

An absolute favorite! Stockholm is full of great, exotic and unique places to eat. Among those, this one is The best I’ve found so far. Besides the medieval costumes and décor, the ambiance includes a a community feel, in a country full of loners. They announce you at the door and seat you at a table with others. You may make new friends. The food is both unique, fitting with the period and gourmet.

I’ve been to Aifur several times and each time it’s a wonderful experience! I love the atmosphere, décor, and especially when they have live music! We’ve eaten dinner there once and it was delicious and we went another time just to enjoy the music and hang out in the bar area. I find the service to be incredible! When a server saw we were watching the band and saw there was a free table available he let us sit there with a perfect view for about half an hour until other dinner guests arrived! It was perfect because it’s a little hard to see the band from the bar and can be hard to find a place to sit there. Highly recommend this place that feels like you’re in Valhalla!

They played the Viking card thoroughly ! The waiters have viking dresses, they announce you by your name when you get in, everything is dark and lit by candles, there are only 2 or 3 big tables so everyone sits together. I would say that it is an interesting idea, but very pricey. I mean, you obviously go there for the atmosphere, but then you end up paying a fortune for the food and the drinks. It is attractive for tourists, I would say, who want to «experiment the Viking way of life from back in the days», but that is the kind of place you go once in your life, maybe twice if a foreign friend visits you, but not more than that …

Novelty concept — a Viking themed restaurant with Viking era food, drinks and interiors. Even the waiters are dressed accordingly. The restaurant is really dark with pretty much only candle light to give you any clue of what you have on your plate. The presentation is rather rough but I guess that’s part of the concept. For starter I had assorted slices of meat and sausages(and reindeer heart) — really good but the waiter just unceremoniously put it in front of me without saying what was what so I had no idea what was the boar sausage and what was the elk sausage, etc. That’s a big part of the experience that was lost right there. Also, there were three cups with things in it of which I could only recognize one(mustard) and of which I could get none out of the cup because you weren’t given any utensils that fit into it. For main course I had lamb racks with honey roasted root crops. It was very bland in the taste and could have used some salt. Maybe the Vikings didn’t have much salt either but if they’re so dead set on Viking era reenactment maybe they shouldn’t serve Coca Cola then! I drank some mead which was an interesting flavor. As a desert I had a little piece of apple/nut cake. There was a tiny, tiny piece of ice cream(or the Viking equivalent) but it was far from enough to go with the dry cake. All in all, I’d say this is a tourist trap. You go here for the concept — certainly not for the food.

While wandering the streets in search of delicious dining, my friend and I passed by a couple standard-looking Italian and French restaurants and noticed this hole-in-the-wall place. We weren’t exactly sure what it was until we walked in and unanimously agreed that we must eat there. Aifur was dimly lit, as you would expect in a Viking bar or perhaps below decks on a Viking ship. Either way, it seemed warm and cozy. We were greeted by the host, who asked us where we were from. As soon as a table was ready, he announced us to the restaurant as a girl from the United States and a girl from China. Everyone clapped and made us feel like celebrities. My friend ordered the venison, and I had the rack of lamb. Each entrée came with a backstory that was fun to read. We washed everything down with mead, which true to its reputation was quite sweet. All in all, the food was delicious, the ambiance cozy(especially with the furry skins lying on the benches), and the service excellent. I would recommend it to any traveler looking for a unique dining experience or just yummy food.

We made a reservation for 9:15pm, which apparently they shouldn’t offer because the waitress seemed annoyed at helping us even though the place was nearly empty. We barely saw her, and by the time she finally meandered over with our appetizer(a salad), she informed us the kitchen was closing and we had to order anything else right then. Well we would have ordered sooner if she hadn’t disappeared for so long. So no dessert then. disappointing. The salad was tasty, and the chicken was alright. My husband liked his venison better. It’s too bad or waitress was purposefully avoiding us. If you must go, make sure it’s during peak hours.

This place was great. We happened upon this while we were in Sweden back in April for our honeymoon and my husband was sold as it was exactly what he was looking for. A medieval/viking restaurant. I do not exactly remember how we were introduced but it was pretty cool to hear each guest introduced in a unique way. The décor is great and the waitstaff are very friendly and extremely patient. As another reviewer stated, the prices are high(like everything else in Sweden) so be prepared for that. We sat at a long table with some other diners who were visiting from Australia I believe. The seats had an animal cover over them to make it more soft for our butts. Everything was pretty authentic from the cups to the plates to the lighting. They really outdid themselves in this place. I ordered the lamb which was cooked perfectly and my husband ordered the chicken. He is really picky when it comes to chicken so he really didn’t eat much of it(the dark meat that is) so needless to say I finished it for him. We never did get our appetizer which was a meat platter, but end the end it worked out in our favor as again, the meal itself was pretty pricey. All in all it was a neat place to visit. Is it a tourist trap? Maybe but it is nice to visit at least once if you are in the area.

I will probably wonder the rest of my life why I was denied to buy myself and my friends a drink in the bar. Or is it so easy to say that I’m not by looks a viking since I’m having the wrong color of my skin? This is my experience either you take it seriously or not. I don’t care. Viking food is a tourist trap. Get yourself meatballs at the nearest hotdog stand, save yourself money and dignity

The atmosphere when we walked into Aifur was great! Loved the décor and ambience… however our awe of the cool atmosphere was crushed as soon as we walked to the hostess stand. The server who«greeted» us said we didn’t have a reservation, and even after showing her our email confirmation she rudely said«well, its not here!» as if it were our problem. She then seated us in a brash manner, mumbling under her breath. We sat down and it took about 20 minutes for someone to come greet us and ask what we’d like to drink. The service was so poor that we never even got to order an entrée. After the appetizers were served we waited for so long and got so full on bread that we just ended up leaving. Although the young lady who was our primary waitress was sweet, she seemed to be dumb as a rock and didn’t even apologize for not coming back to get our entrée order. Aside from the service… another complaint would be the seating. Even though the place was about ½ empty, they sat us right next to strangers and it was rather uncomfortable for a romantic date. Food: What we were able to order was very tasty! I had the beet salad and it was yummy(although the portion was small) and we also had the meat and cheese plate appetizer. We really enjoyed trying the different meats such as Reindeer, Elk, and other various sausages. All in all, the prices for the food are WAY too high for such bad service!

Definitely, the decoration is what you would expect from a medieval/Viking restaurant. And food finish to bring you back to the old times, so don’t hope it to be the finest or the most elegant, but definitely good and interesting to experience. This place is perfect to go with friends, to talk loudly while drinking good beers and remembering old times, the ones you shared and the ones you imagine about the life in Northern Europe few centuries ago.

A Viking themed restaurant, this is a perfect place if you are a tourist or if you are entertaining clients from abroad. The décor is medieval styling and the waitstaff seemed patient and friendly. The prices are extra-high. Be prepared to shell out some dough for this place. Husband and I both ordered the chicken; when we began to pick up our fork and knife we realize how dull and difficult it was to cut into our meat! We had just come from a history museum that talked about how kings used to eat– they only occasionally used utensils. There was really no other way to do it with any class so, in order to get the meat off the bone, we started to pick it off with our fingers. This place is fun but don’t forget your wallet. I also recommend making a reservation especially if you have a group larger than two.

Chanced upon this place walking in Gamla Stan and was so excited with the discovery. Love the viking style ambiance and service. Was cold when we visited so enjoyed the warm blankets on the benches. Our waitress was really nice explaining everything to us and offering us mead — best thing ever! We did a meat platter for appetizer and got to taste reindeer, deer, moose and lamb cooked nordic style. We had the salmon and lamb stew for entrees — was seriously too much food, their portions are pretty big, and ended with chocolate truffles and lingonberries for dessert. Loved the experience– they even announce your arrival to the rest of the communally seated guests! Must visit if you are in Sotckholm!
