Peckish

From the outside you may well give this café a miss. It must be said it has an aura of a greasy spoon. Thankfully, if you venture within you may be pleasantly surprised. Don’t expect some cosmopolitan juice bar, this is a café and is proud of it. The décor is functional, but the café is clean if a little minimalistic.
The prices are very reasonable and you can eat a meal with a drink for under £5. You will get fry-up’s, toast, mugs of tea and everything you would expect from a proper café. They also serve pâté on toast (with a REALLY generous amount of pâté) and other slightly more obscure items. They also don’t go on a grease crusade and even the fried food is not completely saturated in greasy fat like the outside would suggest. They also offer a range of sandwiches which they make on the premises and they are probably the item I would order of choice. They fill them generously and have a good range of meat, fish and vegetarian classics.
The café is open for the early morning commuters and shuts up just after the lunch time office exodus. The caf is usually manned by a couple of members of staff and depending on how many of the tables are filled can expect to wait between 5 – 15 minutes for your order.
The staff aren’t overly chatty, but I have only been in here when it is busy, so they were probably wanting to get on with things rather than stand and chat with a backlog of orders to clear. If you want a nostalgic taste of an old school café, then the Peckish will hit all the right buttons.
