Paton & Finlay is a friendly and conveniently located little pharmacist near where I work. As previously described, their window display is kind of old/funky/Harry Potter esque. I do wonder if it has ever been changed or even cleaned… But, once inside it’s a great old fashioned place that actually carries some hard to find items(a friend of mine bought some essential oil here which she previously could only find in France). The nicest thing about this place is really its size and staff. Let’s be honest, about half the time that I have to go to the pharmacist to get what I need, what I need is embarrasing. The ladies here are very helpful and matter of fact, they make the experience much more pleasant. I’m lucky to be able to frequent such a great little shop.

This pharmacist in Bruntsfield definitely has the whole Harry Potter vibe going on. In the display, there are several bottles of Latin named ointments, which one could easily picture being used up to two hundred years ago! This is purely for effect however, because the store itself definitely belongs to this century. When I stepped in looking for some spirit to sooth my dodgy looking piercing(tmi, i know) I quickly realized that the shelves weren’t so easy to navigate by myself. There’s so much, and there appears to be little coherence to it(I use Boots as a standard), but that’s what the staff are there for and they were extremely friendly indeed! The fancy exterior left me wincing at the idea of what the spirit could cost, but it was quite cheap. It’s definitely a great, and more interesting, alternative to Boots, and as it’s one of the few pharmacists in the area one may need to go there out of necessity anyway!
