I spotted all the raving Unilocal reviews below and decided to give this place a shot. When I go to vegan or veggie places the way I tend to judge then is would I happily go there instead of a meat based café/restaurant. Does this venue hit that? No, I’m afraid! I popped in for lunch and grabbed their most popular wrap, filled with sprouts, sauerkraut and otjer healthy things. It was soggy inside, tasted mostly just of normal supermarket hummous, and despite it nearly costing 5 quid, was actually fairly small and didn’t leave me satisfied. It was a decent wrap and if I was absolutely dying for vegan/gluten free food it would be the first stop. But with other great falafel or veggie offerings available in Edinburgh, this café did little to impress me to come back again. I didn’t eat any salad but their daily offerings looked unimpressive in their flavour and texture. I’m sure that the waffles etc are bang on the money, but definitely not recommended for its wraps in my opinion, especially for the price!

Whilst I’m not a vegan, I take delight in the clean, wholesome food and depth of flavour that often comes with vegan food. Moon & Hare is no exception to this and is a real delight. It was quite possibly the latest lunch ever: I arrived at Moon & Hare starving, with under half an hour before closing time. The menu is short and simple but also varied with wraps, salads, smoothies, teas and coffees. There’s also some countertop baked goods which are mostly refined sugar and gluten free. I also noticed that they stock the widest range of Pana Chocolate I’ve ever seen. Pana make such delightful and rich raw chocolate in Australia in a whole range of interesting flavours. I’ll definitely be back for a bar or two and also a lengthier snoop around M&H’s healthy goodies. I went for the zesty wrap which was a humous, sauerkraut wonder; bursting with filling and flavour; hearty and filling. I also got a side of beetroot, coconut and ginger soup which came in a dainty teacup and, quite literally stole the show with its beautiful, warming flavours. It was simply irresistible and very much lived up to its enticingly shocking pink colour. And a matcha latte to go to for an antioxidant boost on the walk home. Delicious; from start to finish!

What a great place! I was so impressed with the food and staff here, they have clearly worked hard to bring an accessible Vegan restaurant into Edinburgh. The beetroot and coconut soup was delicious. And I loved the gluten free waffles. I could happily come back just for these. The décor is simple but effective and it is nice to have fresh flowers on the tables and windowsills. I will most certainly be back here again and will be shouting it’s praises to all my vegetarian friends. Thank you for amazing food and hospitality.

Delicious, inventive and filling range of soups, starters, wraps and vegan waffles. Moon and Hare is all about enjoying your food as well as taking an ethical approach and being committed to using local, fresh and unprocessed foods. Can’t recommend it highly enough

I think Moon and Hare will be one of my new fav’s. I’m not first to review here but as part of my ongoing #yelpmission to find all the good gluten free places for me and all the other special people, then this is a winner! There are no gluten containing ingredients on site(yay!) and other options are vegetarian or vegan. I went for the vegan waffles which came with banana and maple syrup and a two portion was filling. I also had the apple pie smoothie which was super tasty. Both came to just over £7 I think. There are tables at the front and back but also at the back there are two shelving areas full of gluten free options for purchase. These are reasonably priced too and not with a huge mark-up like other ‘healthy’ places that I’ve visited. So much so, that my extra shopping was less than £5 so I asked for a take away salad. Two salad types are £4.50. These salads are amazing! I got a peanut noodle salad and a quinoa salad and both are beautiful — crunchy, fresh and fabulous flavours. The focus here is on fresh, natural ingredients without the added bad stuff and from my sit in and take away options, this is done extremely well. I’ll definitely be visiting regularly and Moon and Hare is another great addition to Bruntsfield :-)

I don’t think I can really add much more than Alisa and Jody have already, other than vouching further for this awesome little place. I like to eat healthily and this place is probably now the best in Edinburgh for that! It has a very varied menu in terms of flavour and selection. I have been twice now, having tried the Tuscan and the Zesty Wrap. Both times incredibly fresh, vibrant and packed with flavour and pretty as well. I will definitely be back for more wraps and to try the soups and salads. Whether Vegan, Vegetarian, GF, Raw or just a fan of delicious food that will put a spring in your step, Moon & Hare hits the spot!

Its new, its got a cute name and its veggie, GF and mostly vegan! That makes it unique and a stand out place in Bruntsfield! We popped in just to take a look on the Bruntsfield Christmas lighting night, and ended up getting wraps! I had«the zesty one», which was a hummus, sauerkraut, sprouts warm wrap! While I was spurious of hummus and sauerkraut combo it surprising worked! They had some yummy looking salad selections and some GF and regular cakes! They had a little farm shop in the back with natural and healthy options ! Cant wait to try breakfast here, vegan waffles and a interesting quinoa, buckwheat and other GF grain mix for the porridge!

Yyyyyeeessssssss!!! *runs around room energetically because she actually ate a healthy dinner this evening* The only thing I don’t like so far about Moon & Hare is that it’s WAY too far away from my house. So I was out for a stroll with Unilocal power couple Alisa & John R(which is why there is already a billion photos and a review for this place within mere hours… #yelplove) and after chocolate sample, upon chocolate sample, we made the very smart decision to eat real food. Now I originally hail from Vancouver — the land of the soy, gluten free, raw vegan whatnot. Health food has a cult following in good ol’ Vancity and I used to delight at rolling my eyes while someone at Whole Foods started rambling about wheatgrass. Then I moved to Scotland, and gosh help me, found myself missing green smoothies. Not even FRUIT smoothies — smoothies with VEGETABLES! Who had I become?! Edinburgh is greatly lacking in the healthy food done well department, so places like Moon & Hare make me exceptionally happy. Because this isn’t just health food — it’s GOOD health food and there’s a big distinction. Health food often tastes like a chore… it’s a «I need to eat this because I ate a pint of icecream for dinner last night» sort of sacrifice. But good health food is sneaky AF… it’s the art of «SURPRISE! This super delicious wrap is also gluten free and 100% raw vegan! I just made you eat beets and LOVEIT! Sha-freaking-zam.» Moon & Hare is GOOD health food. I’ve only had the nori wrap — beets, carrot, avocado, cucumber and miso dressing wrapped in a raw nori sheet. It might seem like i’m jumping the gun with a five star after only one meal but there are two telltale signs that one great wrap deserves a five star all around: 1. it was under £5, 2. I had half of it left over in my bag and when I got home, wanted to finish that instead of tucking into the delicious chocolatey thing in my fridge. When you make me choose beetroot over chocolate, you deserve an enthusiastic five star. Dear Moon & Hare: please start a delivery service.
