I’m at risk of being the official reviewer of Bristol’s Pizza Express branches with this review, which is typically glowing in the pizza-like-a-pancake department(I’m not big on crispy), while appreciating that there are never two restaurants alike. Some would argue that it’s a chain; it looks and feels like a chain and has the staff to match. And while I would agree that sometimes the staff look like they’d rather be nursing a Long Island Iced Tea somewhere other than Harbourside, this branch is generally nice, being light and spacious and so on. The food is the same as you get at any other Pizza Express, so you either like it or you don’t. I do, and I’ll have a bit of garlic oil with that, if you don’t mind.

We went on a very busy Saturday afternoon and were greeted and seated courteously and promptly. The staff were attentive and polite, ensuring we had everything we needed, and we were served pretty quickly. The food was great, as ever, but I love Pizza Express food anyway so I’m a little biased. The environment is clean, bright and airy, and was obviously very popular with people just out for a stroll, as we were. Would definitely go again.

«But all the Pizza Express restaurants are the same!?» I hear you cry. Oh but you’re wrong, I say. This branch, in my humble honest opinion, has the best pizzas of all the branches in Bristol. Maybe it’s because it’s newer or because their special chef, Signor Pizza Face(or Francesco Mazzei as I believe he is formerly known) launched his new menu from this branch, so I hear anyway. Whatever he did it rubbed off on the chef’s here, I really do find the food here a cut about the other branches in the city. I think it’s a nicer, cleaner(for lack of a better word) feeling restaurant and the service has always been great; very efficient, helpful & friendly. If you’ve not been to one of these restaurants before try the Diavolo with chilli oil, if you like spicy food. The house red is also very drinkable and the meal deals they do, on a Wednesday specifically, are such good value. A meal for two with a starter and a bottle of wine for £20, me a cheapskate, never! Just make sure you print your voucher before you go.
