As you walk past this Whiteladies branch you can almost feel the grease lingering in the air. This is the main base for the many, many pizzas which are regularly shipped up the hill and into the mouths of hungry, hungover Stoke Bishop halls of residence students who can’t quite be bothered to make the trip downstairs to the refectory(and frankly, I don’t blame ‘em). It’s unhealthy, it’s chocked full of calories(avoid at all costs reading the nutritional information), it actually really doesn’t even taste that good — all synthetic meat and sauce piled atop an insipid dough base. Yet, we keep on calling them up. There are two reasons for this: one is laziness(why cook or walk to Sainsburys when you can be easily filled at the touch of a button?) and the other is hangovers, when you need grease and you need it now. These are the two, admittedly somewhat depressing, occasions when Dominos comes into its own. Long may it continue.

Dominos is there for you when you’re feeling down, but calorie counters beware: in one large pizza you can end up consuming up to 1500kcal. I’m not one to watch my weight so it’s not a problem for me! The people who work in this Dominos are particularly nice: one time I forgot my card and he let me take home the pizza first and bring the payment later. That’s trust, built up from a lot of orders! Remember to go at lunch if you want to save money and to collect if you can as the difference in price is monumental. It’s not Italian, it’s not authentic, it’s not good for you but it is tasty!

Takeaway pizzas are a real rarity in my household, they are more expensive than their supermarket counterparts and tend to comprise you’re whole daily calorie intake in one sitting. However, I picked up some vouchers in the local newspaper for a free 10 inch Dominos cheese and tomato pizza so I thought I’d break with my tradition and give it a whirl. Come on, it’s hard to watch those ads before Britain’s Got Talent without crazing a Dominos Pizza. Anyhow, I popped along to the tiny takeaway shop on Whiteladies Road on a busy Saturday night(there’s my first mistake, heading out onto Whiteladies on a Saturday night) and while the order took about 15 minutes to make, the wait wasn’t too bad as there’s this great little window section where you can see about a million(I’m not joking, I counted at least 25 staff and the shop is about the size of my front room) working together to make the pizzas from scratch. It’s always good to know where your food comes from!

This certainly is my closest domino’s. For those that have never had a domino’s before, your in for something special. These whopping great Pizza’s are nothing like a real pizza, and i think Itallians find it quite funny that they are still called pizzas. That does not mean to say that they are not delicious. Because they are. If you are having trouble working out what topping you want, go for to and split them across the top of your pizza. The only problem is tha tit is a bit pricey if you cant get a deal.

I’m pretty sure that this isn’t actually the closest Domino’s to where I live, but their website seems to think it is, so this is the one that I end up using. Recently I’ve taken to ordering online in order to avoid the stress of having to have a phone conversation and I’ll be honest, it’s working out very well for me. They now have this thing on the web page that updates with what stage your order is at — it’s great; it makes the wait loads more bearable, though my pizzas never taken too long to arrive anyhow. The pizzas are pretty great, but really, I’m all about the garlic and herb dip — I just can’t get enough of the stuff. They often have some good deals on, so do a quick web search before you order — I managed to find a voucher code that saved me £15 last time I ordered. Bargain.
