This newsagent, on the corner of Cotham Hill and Whiteladies Road, is one of the most comprehensive for all your magazine needs. From specialist sports to high fashion, this should be your go-to for a weekly or monthly fix of extreme fishing or leather bondage. These days newsagents take on so many different roles to compete with supermarket ‘express’ shops that many totally ignore the media aspect. Certainly in this area F Derbyshire is better than the nearby WH Smith and Sainsburys. The selection of greeting cards is extensive as well, again standing up against local competition.

It always surprises me how spacious this newsagent is when I come in. Compared to a few other shops around here, they’ve got gallons of space! And don’t particularly fill it, either. There’s a massive wall of magazines, catering to every hobby and interest under the sun, along with a cards and stationary section. If you’re after a magazine/pubication, they’re highly likely to be able to help you. It’s clearly a husband and wife owned shop, and they’re usually both sat behind the diagonal counter at the end of the shop. The lady is friendly and helpful, but be aware of the gentleman’s slightly gruff manner(the kind of angry shop keeper who will chase away annoying school kids) — they’re both nice enough though. This is generally a well stocked, good traditional newsagents.
