We enjoyed our lamb dishes — balti and lal Maas — well spiced and tender. The sag paneer was well cooked — both the spinach and the cheese — but the spices were a bit bland. The restaurant would be a favorite haunt in Jersey City and NYC, which have some of the best Indian food outside of The sub continent itself. Nothing fancy inside which adds to its authenticity. Menu includes dishes from other South Asian areas such as Indonesia, Goa, and Malaysia. Host was very attentive and accommodating.

Ahmed’s is great! Friendly, helpful staff and really lovely food. They have a great value happy hour deal on their most popular curry’s, but it’s worth venturing off from these to try some of their specialties. In particular, I’d recommend their fish based dishes.

Bland, poorly prepared food. The ingredients don’t get much cheaper. Nothing ate was particularily fresh. Some of the worst Indian I’ve eaten in Bristol. Save your money or walk across the street to Redland Tandoori.

Okay, I have a lot of good things to say about this place. Being a bit Indian cuisine fan myself I have tried a fair few different restaurants, and I loved this place so much that I’ve already been back a couple of times! Firstly — prices are cheap and you get great value for money! And if you don’t mind eating a bit earlier, then they have a happy hour between 6pm and 8pm where for only £8 you get curry, rice and naan and can enjoy the great atmosphere of the place. Secondly — the food is actually amazing, and you get good portion sizes — I could only eat half of mine and they were more than happy to pack the rest up for a takeaway. The staff here are so friendly and they literally look after you from the moment you walk in, constantly checking that everything’s okay — and the place is so cosy and comfortable, with a buzzing environment! Ahmed’s offer all your traditional curry dishes, as well as a few chef specials — and they cater brilliantly for vegetarians, you can pretty much ask for anything that takes your fancy and they’ll change it to a vegetarian dish. If you don’t want to eat in then they also offer a free delivery service — they tend to take around 45 minutes to deliver too, which isn’t bad! Overall I would definitely recommend this place — especially if you fancy a curry in a casual and friendly environment!

The Curry Café is hard to recommend when The Redland Tandoori is one hundred metres walk away. The interior is clean and homely but the fundamental way of judging a curry house should be the curries themselves. The wide range of curries should result in a great variety of flavours and bases but the overpowering sweetness of every dish ensures that a jalfrezi tastes like a bhuna and a Korma could easily be misconstrued for a pudding. The food is incredibly cheap, but ultimately you get exactly what you pay for.

The food here is fine, which for a curry house in Bristol is about as good as you will get. The atmosphere is really relaxed which makes it a nice place to go on the spur of the moment. The food is good but it is nothing you couldn’t make at home. You aren’t left with many other options so far as a curry goes in the immediate vicinity of Chandos road. They also do a deal for £10 which is well worth a crack.

Ahmed’s is a lovely place on Chandos Road in Redland. It’s an Indian restaurant and takeaway, with free delivery available within a 3-mile radius — a service that I’ve taken advantage of a couple of times. An absolutely massive meal for 2 will set you back about £20, so it’s not bad value at all and the delivery time is usually between 45mins and an hour. The food itself is excellent — very tasty, and they do a good selection of vegetarian dishes, of which I am a fan. The vegetable massala is a definite winner, and at £5.15, you really can’t go wrong. If it wasn’t good enough value for you, then they have a happy hour offer on from 6pm-8pm Monday to Saturday and 6pm-11.30pm on Sunday, where you can takeaway a curry, pilau rice and a naan for £6.95, or eat in for £7.95. Bargain.

Going for the more casual Indian restaurant look, the Curry Café is located on Chandos Road in Redland. It, like a few other places on this road, has a good reputation, and their food certainly lives up to it. Giving the name ‘café’ immediately puts the guests at ease, but the interior is nice enough to warrant it being called a restaurant. The food is uniquely wide ranging, with a number of options you don’t usually see on an Indian menu — Haandi curries, for example. This is the option that I went for, and the meat of the chicken was good quality. I’m not too keen on spicy curries, but there was just the right amount of spice, so it was an enjoyable meal. It’s excellent value for money; a main will cost around £6, with rice setting you back about £2.50. Worth a try — a good Indian in a nice neighbourhood.

Ahmed’s Curry Café is a cheap curry restaurant and take away in Chandos road in Redland. Its popular with the students in the area and with Redland residents. The dishes are a bit basic but you get a lot of food and its very good value for money. The staff are friendly and you can wait in the restaurant with a drink and a popadom while your take away order is cooked.

After our perceived decline of the Joy Raj — are previous favourite Indian takeaway, we have spent ages trying to find one to replace it. Ahmed’s has definitely become a firm favourite — the food isn’t greasy or over-priced, the waiting time isn’t too long, and it is very very tasty! It’s a shame though that they don’t do group dips, but you can order them separately.
