What started as a potentially daunting desperate Saturday night trip into an empty curry house quickly turned into a sumptuous taste adventure! Decorated and lit in a fairly restrained manner compared to many similar places, and staffed by a pack of attentive waiters, the empty(at 10pm on a Saturday) restaurant gave us no clues as to what to expect, and past experiences taught us that it could go either way. The breads were tasty and not over-done, with the garlic naan providing a good garlic flavour without leaving you wondering if you could breathe in the same room as someone else for the next 2 hours. My girlfriend had one of the house specialty chicken curries whose name escapes me, but it was a lip-tingling bowl of pleasantly spicy goodness. However the standout win of the night has to be the Gosht Ghazala — a marinated lamb dish made with fennel, coriander, black pepper and a cashew nut sauce. We spent the rest of the night and part of the following day rhapsodising about that lamb, and I suspect it won’t take much to justify a return visit. If I were going to name this restaurant, I’d call it «Kohi Noor», because it’s certainly a massive gem.
