Have been going to this pub for years. Really nice pub décor, love the fish tanks! Also does good food and has a cosy feel to it. However, earlier this year I went there for a family drink with my Grandma, Auntie and Cousin who I rarely see. First of all, they wouldn’t serve me as I had no ID. I understand that it is strict these days but I’m 24and was there with my family for one drink! My cousin also sneakily took a sip of her mums beer when no one was looking. She is under 18 and the bar man saw. Silly thing to do but he got very angry and asked us all to leave immediately. Pretty embarrassing and also quite confusing for my grandma of 73 who then got harrassed by a drunken man at the bar. the bar manager did absolutely nothing about this! Haven’t been back since and don’t think I will be either, they clearly didn’t want us taking up a table as were just rude and unwelcoming from the start. Shame, as I used to love it here and always recommend to my friends in the area.

I am giving this pub 5 stars for the food especially, which is really good pub grub, using quality ingredients and serving massive portions. I have eaten here several times and always enjoyed my meal. The chef is very friendly and obviously takes great pride in what he does. The staff are friendly and there’s a nice atmosphere. A great local. Best pub food I’ve tried in the area so far.

Many years back I used to chef at the Walmer, so the place always will have some fond memories. It changed hands a while back and now serves Thai food, except on Sunday’s where you will get a Sunday Roast. I haven’t tried the Thai food, but the roast was tasty and was accompanied with all thhe trimmings. It’s quite a small place, so if you are coming with a group for food I would recommend getting there early(especially on Sundays). There is a cool fish tank set into a wall divider which gives the place character and the staff are an amicable bunch. Expect all the usual drinks and larger’s/ales on tap. This is a nice place to come to after a day spend in Queen’s park for a pint and a bite to eat. Also, being at the top end of Hanover, you don’t tend to get too many randoms creating a bad atmosphere.

A small, colourful little pub miday along Queens Park Road with an extensive pizza menu. The most noticeable characteristic about this place is the friendly staff. Always a warm welcome here. Nice chilled little place to drink here, and I always feel quite relaxed. Eaten here a few times and would describe the food as a bit hit and miss. Wouldn’t come here specifically to eat, but would quite happily spend an evening chilling in the Walmer.
