As I just started a workout regimen that consists of doing 5 or so push-ups in the morning, I figured that I should purchase some protein powder in order to assist with muscle growth. Holland & Barrett has a fantastic selection of vitamins and supplements, and everything is surprisingly cheap. They often have sales, so it’s a good idea to stop buy every so often in order to get a deal. I ended up purchasing Glucosamine, Biotin, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Calcium & Magnesium and protein powder, all at a very cheap cost. Highly recommended.

Located directly opposite Boots, this Holland & Barrett offers a lot of the same vitamins, minerals and health supplements as Boots for a slightly cheaper price. They often have special deals on like Buy 3 Get 1 Free and usually stock everything from Vitamins A, B and C to Omega 3, Cod Liver Oil and Milk Thistle. They also sell gluten-free snacks, sugar-free jams and marmalades, muselis and granolas, organic tins and jars, soya and vegetarian products. I’d give it 4 stars for products but 3 for customer service. The staff are friendly and accomodating but whenever I buy something, they always try to sell me whatever goods are on special that week. I know this might be company policy but I don’t appreciate feeling pimped!

Whilst I’m not a big fan of supplements and powered drinks, I can appreciate the vast selection of these things in Holland and Barrett. Several shelves are filled with various powders that are designed to change the appearance of human bodies in various ways. A bit creepy. There are also lots of vitamins and supplements for lacking diets or targeted groups: mothers, vegetarians, those of a ‘golden age.’ I was more interested in the snackable section, surprise, surprise. Holland and Barrett offers almost every kind of nut or dried fruit you can think of, and sell them plain, or covered in chocolate or yogurt. Healthy oatmeal bars, corn and rice cakes, and gluten-free crackers are also amidst the snacks. Several vegetarian and dairy-free ingredients and ready-meals are available canned or frozen. I was intrigued by the nut-loaf packages and noticed some brands familiar to Canadian health food shops — like Amy’s, for example. I’ll be back to try some of these things, and to buy another bag of ever-so-delicious yogurt covered everything.

I like the smell that hits you when you enter Holland and Barrett, which is a mix between new age goodness(but not too strong like an incense stick, but just the smell of nuts, raisins, oils and tofu mixed together) mixed with clean shop. Nice. Obviously they have all the thing’s you’d expect; vitamins, minerals, essential oils, dried fruit, powdered creatine and echanicea(which I was told by the way is the singular best supplement to take over the winter to boost your immunity). Also a good selection of health foods as well as specific dietary requirement foods were on offer from the fridge and freezer at the back of the store such as, Beech smoked Tofu, and Gluten and wheat free apple pie. When I visited the shop in mid November there was a buy one get one half price deal going for all the produce, so if your stocking up for the winter, now might be a good time to go.
