I was entirely surprised by this average looking café when I called in here for a quick bite before I began my Culture Night festivities. I had never seen the restaurant so opened up before and indeed was oblivious to the fact that it spanned the court yard right down to the Duke. As I entered to have a nosy at the menu I was pleasantly greeted with the appetising smells of the food on the go and the delicious aromas sealed the deal of my eating here. Although the restaurant was almost completely empty(and usually this would put me off) I was happy enough to sample their food as it was early evening and most places were very quiet. Well I can tell you I was so pleased I trusted my nose, the food was sublime. Friend and I both opted for the burger(sounds plain and simple, but ho no, this was no ordinary burger, it was garnished with smoked cheese, red & green peppers, onions and homemade salsa) and although the meal was pricier than I would have preferred it was so delicious I can’t bring myself to complain. Well, apart from the measly excuse for a salad that came on the side, it barely constituted a salad considering it was 4 small leaves delicately balanced on top one another. So rabbit food apart, the experience was more than pleasant and I anticipate my return imminently to sample some more of their delicious food. A highly enjoyable and unexpected treat.

I don’t actually have a wild amount to say about Printer’s, except that it’s a lovely little café that provides me with some of the best sausage rolls this city has to offer, and that’s no mean feat — I am very picky about my sausage rolls! The sit-down restaurant part of it isn’t something I’d be too crazy over though. The food is a bit too pricey and quite fussy. It’s not a place you can call in for a quick bite of lunch. Seriously though — go for the sausage rolls!

Printers is a really nice wee café hidden in the cobbled backstreets of Belfast’s cathedral quarter. Its right beside the Duke of York bar, which is how I found it– and is great for a quick munch during a wee drinking sesh-ditto! prices are a little higher ranging at about £8 but the food is really good. The have a separate entrance around the back, which is actually on a main road where you can get food to go at a bit of a cheaper price which is handy! I had a great tuna and cucumber sarnie and my friend had the soup and both were really good and the portions were satisfactory! A great wee spot if you’re having a drink in The Duke of York as you can roll out of the pub right into here! lol.

Printers Café is a fantastic little place down one of the many interesting little cobbled alley’s that vein through Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter. It’s also just across the alley from one of my favourite pub’s, The Duke of York. It looks a little bit like a factory from the outside, there’s not much to tell you its actually there at all, but this low key approach suits the area well and it fits right in. The food is a little pricey if you are just looking for a casual snack with prices ranging around £8/9. With is always a bit to much, particularly for a sandwich! The food is very nice though, and if you have the money then by all means go and enjoy what they have to offer! If you’re not after any nosh and just fancy a drink I would recommend just going to the Duke of York a few metres away.

I love the location of this place almost as much as I love the food. It’s right across a little cobbled alley-way from the Duke of York, a much loved, long-standing pub in the Cathedral Quarter of Belfast, and probably benefits from its proximity when people have the lunchtime drink ‘munchies’. Its an unusual shape, feeling a bit like a corridor, long and narrow, but they’ve made the most of the place with warm, appealing décor and furnishings, and it feels warm and welcoming. I had the butternut squash risotto when I last ate here, and it was gorgeous, well flavoured and tasty — unlike some risottos that can be bland at times. The waitress was very attentive and helpful especially considering we were a loud and rowdy group, and had endless patience with us. If you’re having a drink in the Duke of York and are feeling peckish, pop across to the Printers Café for some lovely food.
